One of my favorite things to do in a new town or city is check out the local grocery store/supermarket, and this one, THIS ONE, with actual real-live vegan options, is like a dream. Granted, I don't know how to read Dutch, so most of the ingredients were a mystery to me, but I've gotten pretty familiar at spotting the Dutch words for 'milk' 'egg' and 'cheese', so I felt fairly confident. I also have a Rotterdam-born friend with me for last-ditch translation if needed. The variety of foods was overwhelming, in the best possible way! I found an excellent vegan mayonnaise (the mayo was for a potato salad, which turned out excellent and impressed all the picnic-going omnivores), bought a round of Cheesley Mozzarella, and picked up a tiny package of vegan bratwurst, just for fun. I was sorely tempted by the rest of the refrigerated section and naturally by the chocolate aisle--so many amazing looking vegan chocolate bars, including a white chocolate. Whaaaaat?! I would shop here quite frequently if I lived here. A great selection of organic food with a healthy vegan section. If you're traveling through, this is a great store to stock up on a few special vegan treats, and there's vegan/vegetarian cafe right next door if you're hungry.

What an incompetent money sucking service…read more Went to this store to find some products for more energy (caffeine or guaraná tablets or something alike). The employee was asking me if I was suffering some kind of burnout and was telling me to buy some multivitamins and ginseng. Lady: if a person wakes up at 6am everyday, it does not mean that he or she has a sickness. She even went to her boss and was discussing me as if I were a case of some kind of sickness and was trying to find out what I had. In the end I surfed through their online store and showed her what I wanted from her store. She still tried to sell me some extra taurine and some other stuff "because it's really good for you and your energy"

Amazing experience!…read more I made a day trip to Rotterdam this past weekend, and the highlight of the trip was dinner at Uit Je Eigen Stad, which translates to 'From your own city'. They mean it. Situation on a little farm at the edge of the city, you would not expect to find some of the best food here, but that's exactly what you get here. The interior is very 'gezzellig', and it is a lot of fun to experience the food being cooked right in front of you. The menu isn't fixed, which means you are only served the freshest stuff possible. I really liked the 'service with a smile' attitude of the staff. Our meal consisted of fresh bread, delicious soup, and a very tasty pumpkin risotto, which was followed up by a really delicious dessert that I had no space left for. Tip: Call them up before hand to get the name of the tram stop right in front of the farm, as they have their own private entrance near it that doesn't show up on any maps service. All in all, a wonderful restaurant where I wouldn't mind spending the entire day.
