When this place opened next to my office I was really excited. It is one of the few places I can actually go to where I can find something healthy and (sometimes) quick. This location is in a small strip style mall in Irvine. It is an absolute pain in the a$$ to go anytime after 11:30, till about one. Being in a corporate area, the get slammed at lunch hours. Besides parking being a complete nightmare, the line is typically out the door and around the corner. If you can, go for a late lunch or dinner and skip the madness. Thus far. I have loved everything I have tried. for those not familiar with poke style places, you pick a base (salad, rice, chips) then you pick toppings (california crab, cucumber, avocado, onion, etc) then you pick your fish (salmon, yellowtail, albacore, shrimp, octopus, tuna, etc) then lastly you do a sauce and final toppings (sesame, seaweed, wasabi, roe, etc) All in all you get a good sized meal that runs your about 9-12 dollars. Everything has always been fresh and the house sauces are really good. Small place with some indoor seating, but also a large patio shared by all the spots in the shopping center. Employees are always nice and move the line along pretty well. If you do become a frequent customer, ask for the stamp card. It gets you free sides and drinks after every 10 orders. read more

I like coming here after my workouts! It's conveniently located by John Wayne Airport and Equinox Irvine. Their proteins are always fresh and good quality. Their house sauce is unique and full of flavors. There are also plenty of protein options and add ons to choose from. The workers have always been friendly too. Finding parking does get difficult, during peak hours, and sometimes there is a long line, out the door! Other than that, this poke place is worth it. It's like they took the awesomeness of Pokinometry, sucked the heart and SOUL of it out, and the deposited it in Irvine. The poke doesn't taste fresh, the staff is not very engaged or friendly, and the house sauce sauce is too salty for my taste. I never had a poke bowl I didn't like...until now. We split a large bowl of poke, which contains 5 scoops of poke for $10.75. The lackluster employee FILLED our bowl with salad & brown rice before adding the poke and other trimmings. I guess that was nice because he was generous? But that also caused poke to fall out of our bowl while eating. Which really shouldn't bring a review so far down, but the quality of the food was just so blah. It was like eating day old poke leftovers. It might be because I came at 7:00 PM. Perhaps the poke was too old? It even affected how I slept that night. In the future, I'll drive the extra 25 minutes for Pokinometry...or just eat ramen. read more

This is by far one of my favorite places to go for lunch and get poke. The portions are perfect and they have a great selection. The only downside is parking and the lines around lunch time. It is worth the wait however I would recommend coming at 11:30/before or after 1pm. read more

This place always has a line, but it does move pretty quickly! So many options to customize your own poke bowl, good sized portions for a good price. Went to another poke place and it was more expensive for less fish and more rice. Poke Dot does it right! You can choose from white rice, brown rice, salad, or chips. Theres about 5 different types of seafood you can choose from and you can add cucumbers, avocado, and roe without an extra charge! They also sell seaweed salad on the side and some desserts too. I absolutely LOVE this place. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of a slight inconsistency in the portions. I come here every Friday right when it opens at 10:30 because I despise lines (not that anyone likes them). I used to find that their portion of rice was enough, but the past couple times it hasn't been enough for me, but I haven't said anything. However, I'm sure they will oblige if I simply ask for a little more rice, since it's the cheapest ingredient. I always have to specify that I want A LOT of cucumber, onion, and cilantro for my mix. I'm not sure if everyone else is happy with the amount they normally give, but since I don't get the avocado or crabmeat I never feel bad asking for extra veggies for the poke mix. Here's the part that knocks it down a star. This may just be variable from employee to employee, but that could easily be resolved. When I get to the protein, I always get a large so that's 5 scoops of protein, and I always get all yellowtail. Now, I will say it's hard to control what the scoop picks up, but sometimes I get 14-16 nicely cut cubes and sometimes I get 9-10. There has never been a time that I have been hungry (I eat this in halves), after eating each half, but sometimes I'm STOKED when I walk out of there because of the amount of yellowtail I'm about to put in my belly, and other times I'm just excited. read more

Pretty good but lunch rush hour is pretty insane. I sometimes come here on my lunch break when my poke cravings will me enough to wait close to half an hour in line. :( I consistently get their small/large (depending on the hunger hehe) half brown rice half salad with 2 scoops salmon and 1-3 scoops yellowtail. I've tried the scallops before and found it yummy as well! The fish is fresh enough but I wish the salad could be at least at the protein's level of freshness... and if you're one of those who easily succumb to food coma whatever you consume, I suggest asking for easy oil when they're mixing the sauce with your protein. I realllly like that there's a decent choice of veggies to put in (cucumbers, onions, cilantro--I guess avocado's technically a fruit?..). I've found their sauces to be a bit more heavy each time I go so I've been putting spicy mayo on the side. Honestly Pokedot is pretty clutch considering its location. First time I came, the Latin looking girl looked like she's new (no glasses, ponytail) - guy next to her was giving instructions on what to do. We'll found out after you move down the line that she only gave one (instead of 3 scoops). I came back on next visit and told someone - no one bother to address the mistake. No 'sorry, she's new' or would you like an extra scoop today to make up?' I like the portion. Unlike what some said, I find the fish was a decent size , it's just cut up small and it depends who scoops it? i found one of my bowl 'fuller' than a different visit.... I wish the sauce is more evenly mixed. The rice and salad is often dry until you are getting to the bottom of the bowl. Before 11am, no line. After 11.30, at least 25-35 people ahead of you. The wait is around 25-35 mins so if you figure they move one person per min, it's actually pretty darn good productivity rate! read more

One of the better poke bowls I've had. I like that I can get all toppings (esp avo) for no extra charge. The scoops of tuna and salmon were on the smaller side, but as I was eating it, it felt like there was enough. My scoop of octopus was generous, and it really adds some nice chewy texture. I asked for a little of the spicy mayo to be mixed in, and I had a container of the house sauce on the side for a little extra flavor here and there. I figured out that's the best way to not have overly saucy poke. Everything was fresh and their work station was very clean and organized. Service was super friendly. No sushi rice? Seriously?? Out of the poke shops that have been popping up as of late, Poke Dot disappoints. The fish tastes fresh but the sauce seems light handed. So because they didn't serve with sushi rice, it just seemed like there was a lack of flavor and acidity. Also, by the time I finished the poke there was still a good layer of plain rice left. Which means there is not a very good ratio of fish to rice. :T I am happy they opened a poke place closer, but I still prefer good 'ol Pokiometry and even Uroko. Not used to the portion control and high price but still really good. Pokes are all over the place nowadays and unfortunately it's hard for me to differentiate, hence the 4 stars - I've seen bigger portions of equal quality for cheaper price elsewhere outside of Irvine but granted this one is in a prime location surrounded by big offices and etc with lots of money... What makes this place really great is the variety. You can have white rice, brown rice ,chips or salad. U can even do half and half. Also. seasonal raw fish option for me. It keeps changing (duh) and I'm not stuck with the set of options of tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, and scallop. You can mix the choices too. Add-ons free of charge include green onions, jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, crab meat. You have a choice of regular bowl and a large bowl. If I was hungrier I could've probably eaten the large. Last but not least, during the week around lunch time you will wait about half an hour in line so plan accordingly! This review is geared more towards people who have had other poke places before. If you have NEVER had a poke bowl before and this is the most convenient for you, then I would recommend this place first, then try other poke places if you enjoy this style of food. Compared to other fast food style poke places, this place falls way short. They skimp on the fish scoops, the taste is pretty meh, and seaweed salad isn't included (some places include it, not all). I see on another review here, someone says they give avocado, crab, ginger, masago, etc. for no extra charge, but really... I don't know any that do..... Not trying to hate on this place, but there are just so many of these type of places popping up and not all of them can be good. Poke and poke bowls themselves are really good, hence why I can't rate this place 1 star, but there are many better poke bowl places elsewhere. Came here for lunch . Got the small bowl with two scoops of salmon and one scoop of spicy tuna . You can choose a variety of toppings and sauces to go with your protein. They give you about a small ice cream scoop of each topping you choose. My bowl consisted of onions, cucumber , imitation crab, green onions , sesame seeds, tempura flakes, wasabi with standard sauce and some spicy mayo . The combination of ingredients made the bowl very tasty with a strong kick from the wasabi . It is all still very good! I had the chance to taste the volcano sauce and it went really well with the fish. I read some review about the cilantro sauce, I might try that one next time. I work around the area and love the fact that Poke Dot replaced the mediocre taco place! There's not too many options for food around this Irvine business area, so this was great news to me!!! I got the regular bowl that comes with 3 scoops. I decided to get yellowtail, tuna, rice, spicy mayo, and all the fixins. Normally the regular size is around $8.75 I think. I like how the cuts of fish are chunky and not small. The scoop size is similar to other poke places, but at least these are big chunks of fish which I like better. Everything tasted good, I just wish I had more sauce on mine. I also tried the spam musubi which was tasty. I've been to other poke bowl places where they give you a scoop of seaweed salad too, so I missed that. Other than that, I wouldn't say it's the best I had, but I definitely will be coming back since I work around the area. So glad there's another healthy alternative for lunch now. FYI, since it's a business area, lunch time will be super crowded here. So if you want to avoid the crowd, I'd say come after 2pm. Today is 25% off plus a free drink! MEH. This place is just ok, I've definitely had better Poke though. The portions are pretty small for the price, the "scoops" are more like table spoons and the fish is cut up pretty small. Also the tuna there is really pink(not red) so it doesn't seem like it's very fresh or wild caught. I tried the Hamachi and salmon which tasted somewhat fresh but what ticked me off was the amount of sauce they put on my fish. I saw the guy in front of me get his little portion of fish DROWNED in the spicy mayo so I made it a point to ask for less and it was still over-sauced. The coating was so thick it was like an over-dressed salad, not pleasant at all. I also asked for wasabi and they forgot because they were so busy apparently. For the line and price I would suggest going somewhere else to get your poke fix. If you have the time to travel I would recommend Poke Salad bar in Pasadena instead. I wanted to give this place 5 stars. I've been to a number of poke bowl places around oc and poke dot is not bad.... But there are things that can and SHOULD be much better. First is the brown rice, it is sooooo dry. Maybe they should think about purchasing a new brand of rice or just cook it longer with more water. Second are the salmon and scallop. Looks like there's little mayo or something mixed in, eww. I hope it's not mayo because that's gross, i don't want mayo mixed in with my food. And the salmon was a tad rubbery when chewing. Not a good sign. Portions were nice, staff were great, and service was fast. They had a good variety of toppings and sauces. I liked it but didn't love it. Probably won't go back. Split review My girlfriend got a 'classic bowl' and enjoyed it, although she said it was way too spicy - 4/5 stars. I got a wrap with ahi, white rice, 'light' seaweed salad and sauces - waited 20 minutes and got a mush wrap that fell apart and had a mouthful of seaweed in every bite. I have been a loyal customer since they've opened and I've really liked them a lot. I'm saddened and disappointed in the lack of customer service displayed by the patron working last Friday evening. The quality of the food is pretty the same except the portion has dramatically decreased (esp. fish) over time and the price has gone up. Since I'm watching my carb intake, I've asked them to replace crab meat to avocado and they couldn't accommodate which was just fine. But the lady at the cashier was just not friendly and she did not offer the stamp card. When I asked for a new one, she pretty much threw it on the table... What I got: large size, half brown rice/ half chips, all mix items, 2 portions salmon, 1 tuna, 1 yellowtail, 1 scallop, cilantro seasoning/sauce , all toppings except jalapeños and wasabi Pros: great location off of MacArthur Blvd, lots of sitting inside and outside (combined outdoor seating for the many food options in the plaza) clean interior, organized and simple menu , friendly staff, good portion sizes Cons: fish cut too big , even though the portion size is good , I still went through the fish too fast because of the size of the fish pieces. No unagi sauce/ no low sodium soy sauce(out at least). Nacho chips are very salty. This is probably my fault, went with the workers cilantro recommendation. It wasn't bad but wasn't flavorful at all. In total the meal wasn't very flavorful. Neutrals: pricing is what to be expected for poke bowls, fish tasted fresh but appearance wasn't too appetizing, decent amount of options Item to try: wraps ! I love that the place is clean, the food is fresh and good quality, the service is fast, and it's the perfect distance from work. I just went at the beginning of the lunch rush on a Friday and the place is packed. I didn't have to wait in line very long and they did a fairly good job keeping track of my three orders. I was in and out in less than 7 minutes. My only gripe is that, although nice and courteous, the employees seemed on edge due to the rush. I had to remind them that the regular bowls get three scoops of protein and five for the large. I also paid for a seaweed salad that they forgot. Price is decent for the large bowl.
