navigation led me to the start of the small hike (walk) that leads to a look out point. There was very limited parking, maybe around 6 cars were allowed to park. Instead of doing the short hike, I waked down to the beach. There are stairs that lead down to the beach, however the stairs seem a bit sketchy. But overall I felt safe. In order to get to the part of the beach where you can lay out, you have to walk for maybe 5 minutes across a BUNCH of rocks. One surfer I met there told me to watch out for the tide. During high tide where the rocks are get covered with water. Has to be one of the prettiest and cleanest beaches in LA county. While I was swimming I saw ONE FISH. A beautiful location to watch the sunset. This is one of my favorite areas of Malibu. It is very quiet, and there is paid parking.

If you want to go here on a summer weekend when every tourist and valley-dweller wants to go here, I would caution you to think twice. But if you must go, I'm guessing it's best to go very early in the morning. Or ride your bike. By the time I arrived at noon, there was no street parking, and the line of cars into the $15 parking lot was insanely long. And then, suddenly, the "Parking Lot Full" sign went up. By noon. Angering the giganto line of cars that had been patiently waiting to get in. I miraculously found a spot on the street and did the long trek in with all my crap on my back to find the spot near the point where my friends had camped out for the day. Once there, I found it was...(big reveal!) just a beach. With a super yucky bathroom. Womp womp. read more

Point Dume is a lovely place to visit. The beach is always clean and makes for a great photography space. It's also just a gorgeous spot to connect with nature. The sand is soft and the beach, in my experience, has never been too crowded. I myself, can't rock climb, but I always see people here doing it and it looks lovely! I'd assume it's a great place to come. There are also swimmers out in the ocean and scuba divers too! Just a great place to come for some physical activity. You might be lucky enough to see some wild animals in their natural habitat, such as sea lions and even whales from a distance! Little birds also love to come to this place. This is much better than visiting a zoo, since the animals are free! I always enjoy coming here. There's a lovely restaurant close by, so if you burn some calories on your walk or climb, you can reenergize close by, and with an amazing view. read more

One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been too. The sights are amazing after rock climbing to the top and taking a break to take in the sights. O yes, You can rock climb here. If you have all your rope and gear, there are attachments and bolts at the top you can anchor your ropes on. I don't know all the terminalogy but I came here because a friend of a friend of my brothers' had all the equipment and let us enjoy the experience with him. Too chicken to rock climb? No sweat, you can take a short hike up to the rocks. Please do this because the view is just Ahhmazzing! I could stay there all day looking out at the beach of calm waters and looking down to watch all the beach goers. This is my first time experiencing Malibu and it didn't leave me disappointed. The only con- driving here sucks! After getting off I-10 W, you will traverse down the ever crowded clusterF*** PCH, 1. What should take 20 mins became 40mins. Tip- Park on the street and walk to this point dume. It's only about 1 mi if you don't have too much gear to carry. Or else, pay the $10. read more

Perfect getaway from the crowded beaches during summer. The view from the top is beautiful. A short walk down, aided by metal stairs. The strip of beach is narrow compared to other beaches, but there is plenty of space to sprawl out and enjoy a good tan without being bombarded by groups nearby. You know that spot that everyone has for themselves? That place you go to when you need some time to yourself or some time to reflect? Your favorite perfect place that you never let anyone know about? Or if you do take someone there it means they are super special? Well, I'm going to let you in on a little secret my fellow Yelpers. This is that spot for me. I often go here for a workout with a beautiful backdrop and always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. Parking is a nightmare as others have mentioned. I park around the sunset restaurant and just walk a bit, but I go there to walk anyway. There's paid parking closer if you're doing a picnic or something and need to be a little closer. Then I walk all the way down through the parking lot until I get to the little mountain and take that walk up. It's not an intense workout, especially if you are a regular hiker, but with the inclines and the sand, you can get a good workout in. I highly recommend wearing athletic shoes! I always see people wearing sandals and it seems tough.The hike is super duper short. It's just up and down the mountain (or more like the hill) to get you to the other side of the beach. But the views are just spectacular the whole way through! There's one part where I go out to the cliffy part and just hang out. Lots of people have the same idea so it's usually on the more crowded side, but still has a nice secluded feeling. To get a little more of a workout, I usually do the inclines a few times, do some strength exercises on the benches, and walk along the beach. I highly recommend if you ever feel like doing a solo hike (this is the only place I'll solo hike because I feel like it's safe), a romantic workout, or a family hike. So beautiful! FYI- if you're a rock climber, bring your gear! You can also rock climb here! I've only climbed once so for me it was very challenging, but if you're experienced it seems to be on the easier side. read more

Been here July on Thursday morning at around 10:30. There was literally no one on the beach except for a few families walking around !! It was really peaceful and quiet. We set up our spot and after 11, people started rolling in. By about 11:30, there were a good amount of people setting up and coming in. The beach here is nice and it's not as crowded as others. We left at around 1:30 when it started getting busier. Restrooms were clean. Parking was easy, 8$ on a weekday. read more

The most beautiful view in LA! A nice little walk, great ocean and cliff views. When I was here this past weekend, there was an elaborate engagement going on. Dogs are not allowed :( (Though I saw lots of poops, thats why dogs are technically not allowed, I guess). There are only a few parking spots, but I think I timed it right this time to get them: I showed up right before the lunch hour, so the morning people seemed to be leaving for lunch. I got here by taking Birdview at the end of Westward Beach, and hugging the coast side of the street until I arrived here. Side note: my art class in 9th grade 15 years ago decorated the trash cans that are out there, haha. I tried to find mine but I think there must be other trash cans around town. I came here today for the "hike" and it was amazing! Like other reviewers have said, this isn't a hike per se, but more like a tough walk. You can either parallel park on the road next to the beach and then walk about half a mile to the cliffs, or you can drive to where The Sunset restaurant is, make a left on Birdview Road, and drive all the way up till you see the sign, "Point Dume Natural Preserve." There, you'll find some parking spots, but it only holds about 5-8 cars. I had to wait a little bit for a spot. If you choose to drive up, you'll either get lucky with a spot or you should park at the beach. There's absolutely no other street parking up there because it's all residential. Today was GORGEOUS out and the perfect weather for this "hike." Like I said, although this wasn't a hike hike, I definitely recommend wearing proper shoes. The terrain is uneven and most of the time you're walking on sand, which actually made it a tough walk. Walking on sand is no joke! Anyway, there's a path that's set by wires and it takes you all around the cliff. The view is just incredible and you can also get right up to the cliffs. I highly recommend checking out this place. It's also a great spot to take photos. This spot seemed relatively unvisited. It wasn't crowded at all. Also, I saw some folks rock climbing! So cool. Side note: -I read couple reviews saying there's parking on Fernhill at the top, but when I went today, there was absolutely no street parking allowed on that street. My guess is that they recently changed it to no parking. read more

As far as California beaches go this one is really great: - it has restrooms (equipped with flushing toilets, soap, and toilet paper) - it's not very crowded even on the weekend - it's very clean: no glass shards, or trash tumbleweeds on this beach - it's picturesque - it has fairly mild waves so it's good for swimming and bad for surfing But it does have its drawbacks: - $10 parking fee - inattentive lifeguards (so don't venture too far out if you're a weak swimmer) I will definitely return! read more

This is Malibu. People are have better manners. This beach is so nice. The sand is really clean, no trash. The air is fresh. Big shore. A lot of good people, they keep the beach clean. I only saw one bum. Just one. Venice ... there's too many to even count. I've even seen a couple there just picking up trash on the beach. Such a nice couple!!! $10 to find a parking space (in their lot). Lots of sheriff patrolling. Kids should feel safe. A lot of families on the beach and not much profanity going on. Just the PCH is so bad. Going in and coming out. So much traffic. Will be back for sure. With an umbrella and blanket next time. read more

Four stars instead of five because in the summer it gets very crowded, and dogs aren't allowed anywhere on the beach. They can walk along the road, but they can't even get on the sand. I see them all half-dying of heat exhaustion and temptation inside RV's or vans parked along the beach. It's true that the Point Dume GPS address won't take you to the proper parking lot along the beach, it takes you to some weird neighborhood nearby and you have to keep driving to find the long stretch of free parking or the kiosk for paid parking along the ocean. It is, however, probably one of the nicest if not the nicest beaches in the LA area. If you climb over the rocks beyond the people scaling the cliffs, and keep climbing as far as you can, you'll hit a pod of seals (pod is strangely the correct term for groups of seals), if there's very few people there (early spring) my dog comes with me. read more

Beautiful Beach, clean with clear water. Limited parking and a bit secluded so it is always really nice, especially on weekdays - hardly anyone here. There is also a fairly tall rocky ridge on the beach that stretches out to the water. If you go to the top (there is a trail) you have an amazing vantage point up and down the coast line. Beautiful view. If you are a rock climber there are fixtures drilled into the rock to anchor in. The main side is a 5.8 so it is good for beginners however you can find some up to a 5.9+ if you are more experienced. On the other side of the ridge there is a small cove that is very secluded and nice if you can get down to it *DANGEROUS* so be careful if you try. I go here all the time for the rock wall and it is always a great time. beautiful beach with some amazing views. read more

AaaMazing! I just moved here form NYC where I rarely made any effort to go to the beach let alone leave the 2 mile radius I called "home" so getting out and exploring has been the most important part about my move. Point Dume really has everything for an amazing, relaxing day of laid back adventure. We parked above and hiked down to the beach which was a small adventure in itself. If you stay up top there is a nature reserve area to check out and a great area to take pictures. It was one of the warmer December days so the beach was sort of busy but not at all packed. People were repelling off one of the cliffs and dolphins and birds where hunting fish. We even found tide pools filled with various little sea creatures. It was really picturesque. Somewhere in the distance I could hear seals but since it was later in the day and the tide was coming in we didn't get to do as much exploring as we wanted. We climbed a cliff face to get back to our car which was exhilarating and watched the sun set. Only draw back.... the Malibu police decided to ticket everyone parked above even though the signs said no parking midnight to 5am and we arrived around 3:30pm and left at 5:30pm. Obviously we photographed the signs and sent in a request to have the ticket dropped. I don't know what was up with them but look out for those buggers! read more

I love Point Dume. I come here sometimes by myself, climb over the rocks, and find a place to sit and write . The people are really friendly, and I haven't encountered any snobs here, despite its location in a really upscale area. The drive from LA/Burbank to Malibu is very pretty and easy if you hit the right times. You can usually park (for a small fee) until "dusk", or if you come early enough, you can park alongside the curb or road and walk to the beach. People surf, people rock climb, people play football in the sand, people hike up the trails. It's really nice. The rocks and cliffs make you feel like you're somewhere else, especially if you can get a spot away from the crowd. There are little tidepools amongst the rocks you can explore -- not too much in them, but some sea urchins and maybe some small fish. Lots of places to eat nearby, and you pass some nice looking vineyards on the way as well! read more

Point Dump, no trash. Locals too friendly. One of worst places exploring, rock surfing, and rock climbing since there too many clearly marked trails are well kept. Don't waste you time and gas in this wonderland. Your get lost in bushy maze and lose 1/2 a day here then be late for dinner. There is the smell of rotten sushi ,seals, and squid. Yum. The smell of fermented sea life in the morning. Free parking almost impossible, but lots of paid parking in Zuma beach. read more

This place is honestly so beautiful! The views are gorgeous and the beach is so clean. I didn't feel like paying for parking so my friend and I just parked at the very end of the street. It was about a 15 minute walk. It was pretty hot and felt like forever but the views make it worth it! It's pretty easy to get up the cliff because there's stairs so if you wanna bring your mom or grandma along you can hahaha. Just help them get over the rocks! While going up the cliff we saw people rock climbing and that was really cool to see. At the top of the cliff looking out, you could see miles and miles down the beach. We also saw some whales! The only thing I didn't like was that there were a bunch of bees and I'm scared of bees. But it was okay. I just walked to the other end haha. It's really nice to come here after a hike, so give it a try :) read more

There are a few free parking spots at the top of the mountain and there is free street parking on Westward Beach Road. I typically have a lot of stuff to carry so I don't mind paying the $8 parking charge to walk a half mile or so less. My friends and I go rock climbing here quite often, and I can't imagine that it get's any better than this! The top roping anchors seem to be very sturdy, and the rock and surrounding beach are very clean. The beach side is great for sport climbing or Aussie repelling. The water side is great for a challenging sandstone climb with some good overhangs. My only complaint if I have one at all is that on the sandstone side the rock tends to stain your hands red if you're climbing there for a long period of time. My fiance' and I took some engagement photos there hanging off the rock and they came out amazing. Newbies and experienced rock climbers alike will all appreciate what Pointe Dume has to offer. read more

A beautiful and more private beach option in the area. Parking is plentiful and there the sands aren't overly crowded with people. Clean and well kept this is a perfect beach to spend the most gorgeous of days in Malibu at. On this particular Saturday, we were lucky enough to see both whales and dolphins swim by. For the quintessential Malibu beach that has okay-looking waves (I've only observed the surfers), a picturesque cliff backdrop and a lovely trail to the Point nearby, it's gotta be Point Dume State Beach. This beach is nice and secluded, with the usual super cold Malibu water and a standard mix of Socalers. However, parking seems to be a huge mess here. I don't know how people who don't live in the area manage to find spots for their car. Overall a good beach spot in Malibu (although the whole city seems to be comprised of good beaches). read more

It's pretty nice here and there's a hiking trail with awesome views of the ocean and beaches. Bring a beach chair, towel, snacks and enjoy the view. Parking was $8 on the weekend in March - it was pretty nippy and we had jackets on. The only people in the water had wet suits. I imagine it gets crowded here in the summer. This is my favorite beach area of the Malibu Coast. This review is actually for the Westward Beach area near (connected) to Zuma Beach. It is relatively clean, there is parking but you have to be careful, it can be tough especially if you want to enjoy the area near Zuma Beach (Westward) where it is less crowded. Come early be patient or pay for paid parking is the advice here. The Point Dume State Beach is technically under the cliffs. Westward Beach is the area to the West of the State Beach core zone. Swimming wise at Westward Beach can be challenging, this area seems to have less kelp than other beaches further south and east (like Coral Beach) which I found had a lot of kelp both on the sand and unfortunately floating around all over. I guess there can be rip tides, it's always good to look at the chalkboard by all the great lifeguard huts. I think they clean this beach often because it is relatively clean. You can view Dolphins here, and in general it's just a perfect beach. If you want water that is a bit more small child friendly because the sand pitch is less inclined then absolutely use Zuma instead of Westward. Westward allows surfers, and for strong swimmers is an amazing beach to get out there and do some swimming. Zuma get's crowded on any nice day in Malibu's summer season and so this part of the beach is a bit better for lesser crowds. The cliff areas are neat and in general it's just a great beach for walking too. This area, and the connection to Zuma Beach makes it the longest stretch of sandy beach area on the 20+ mile Malibu Coast. The beach area stretches for roughly 3 miles. AMAZING and Hawaii really doesn't have anything on Zuma/Westward/Point Dume. read more

Love this beach. I went last Saturday and it was exactly what I needed. We went a bit early to find a good spot. We arrived around 10 am and the beach was pretty much empty. The water is beautiful and pretty clear. The beach itself is very clean and don't have to worry about stepping on trash or anything. We even saw dolphins that got pretty close to the shore. You can hike up to the point and over look the ocean. We were pretty close by to it but we didn't hike up there. We will next time. Anyone looking for a good beach I would recommend this one. read more

Came here to relax and sober up after wine tasting in the area. As soon as we got in the area, we knew parking would suck as the sign said "Lot Full" and every car was lining up to go up. I was SO LUCKY that someone was leaving right next to me! Prob saved 30min+ of waiting in the car line! The beach is very clean and relaxing. It was so peaceful I fell asleep and got a pretty bad tan... I also tried to look for the cliff and hike up but didn't find it :(. Overall, pretty nice and clean beach. The hike is just perfect and once you reach the top, the view is exquisite & breathe taking. I have got to say this beach gets beyond packed during the summer holidays and those extremely hot days too. But for me I love coming here anytime. I have been here way too many times. Point Dume is my favorite beach spot. While I live closer to other beaches, if given a choice I will always choose Point Dume. Parking can be a hassle because the lot isn't that big. If planning on coming on a hot weekend, make sure you leave early and get there by 9:30 so you don't have to wait in the long line to *hopefully* get in. But for me, it's worth it. The beach is clean. There is a short walk from the car, to the shoreline. That's a huge bonus. I hate walking on sand forever to get to the shoreline. The biggest factor is the ocean - the colors are so beautiful - From green to blue. None of the gross, dark, mucky brownish ocean that you see at other beaches. And there has never been a time where we have gone and haven't seen dolphins. Sometimes they put on quite a show for us. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of the bathrooms. I feel if I am paying $14.50 for parking on the weekends (only$8 during the week) then the bathrooms should be in much better shape than they are. Some bathrooms the doors don't close, are always out of order, dirty & smelly. If that gets fixed, I would definitely give Point Dume 5+ stars! read more

This review is more about the view from the top of Point Dune and not the beach itself. I came here with a friend about 8 years ago and was in awe when we reached the top of our short hike only to see the most beautiful view in the greater LA area and probably the entire state. Since the I've been wanting to come back. Finally my girlfriend and I were in town and figured we'd make a day out of it. We had a small snack at the Sunset restaurant and then went for a great walk/hike along the beach and up the mountain trail. The view was just as beautiful as I remembered and I was so happy to share the moment with someone special. I will always go back anytime I'm in SoCal read more
