What a fantastic little library!
Ok, 'little' isn't quite fair. Sure, compared to the British Library, this is just a thimble of a library...but when you take a moment to think that everything in the bright new space is filled up with poetry, you start to realize that this is an impressive collection.
Tucked away on the 5th floor of the Royal Festival Hall like some sort of best kept secret, the Poetry Library manages to be both off the beaten trail and in the middle of everything. They offer an audio section with poets reading their works, a great lending library section, and a reference section that is not for lending, which was a bit disappointing. This is a great spot for kids as well, with plenty of picture books and a small but busy play area. In the far corner, there are cubicles for studying in an area filled with natural light. Membership is free and very quick and easy. Just bring in proof of address and you're ready to rock and roll. The librarians were super friendly and helpful as well.
Overall, a great location, and a fun way to spend a dreary day. read more
