I was really impressed from the accuracy of the order to the friendliness of the staff. They were very accommodating and friendly from the second we walked in until the moment we left. We heard from a friend that the food here is good, and yes it was! We tried the cheese rolls, they were very tasty. The shallots and carrots in the rolls with the melted cheese make for a very unique taste. We had the basil fried rice and the red curry for dinner, on medium spice. The food was very good, finger-licking delicious. They present their food really well, like the way they have garnishing veggies on every plate. We also tried their Sake (I know it's Japanese, but they serve Sake here). That was good too, I wanted more but I had to drive back too! The staff here are quite friendly and the service is very prompt. The place was not empty when we went there for dinner on a Tuesday night, but was not very crowded either. Had a wonderful take-out experience here, and really appreciated the fact that they took our order right at closing time, waited for us to pick up the order after closing time. What I liked most was the huge portions, each one large enough for at least two meals. Each entree was better than the next. The pad thai, green curry, and Panang curry were outrageous, served with white or brown rice. All the dishes were generously spicy, even the one we asked for "mild", so beware, and be sure to stress "mild" if you're opposed to heat. This is now a regular lunch stop for my wife and me. The food is delicious, including the Pad Thai and daily special curries. What separates this restaurant from other Thai restaurants at lunch time is the appetizer bar. To me, the highlight of the meal at lunch is the selection of two soups available on the appetizer bar. The hot and sour soup is simply delicious and the other soup, a coconut based broth filled with mushrooms and chicken, is outstanding. I could fill up just on the soups! I always have one bowl of each. Also on the appetizer bar is a spicy Thai salad, a salad bar, some fried (tempura) items and spring rolls. There is a small selection of sushi on the bar, which is just OK. I like the Thai salad and the spring rolls best. Not a big fan of the fried foods or sushi The lunch entree choices (I've tried 6 or so of the options available at lunch) are very tasty. The portions are not huge, but are right sized when you include the appetizer bar (did I mention the soups? OMG!). They will ask you how spicy you want your food and you'd better pick well, because they say their policy is not to replace a meal that you don't eat because you asked for too much heat. I usually get Mild, which is plenty for me, and my wife(who loves spicy foods) gets Hot. Neither of us has tried the Thai Hot, and I doubt we ever will. When my wife orders the Hot, the waitress usually says "are you sure?", so I think the Thai Hot must be wild. Other than the noodle dishes, the entrees come with white rice, which is moist (not dried out). Good service, too. They do a very nice job keeping the water glasses full. The Staff and owners are friendly. I first learned of the restaurant when I had dinner there about two years ago. The dinner was very good, including the service. However, because of the appetizer bar, which is available only for lunch, this has become one of our go-to lunch places. read more

I'd never tried this restaurant. I ordered online for pickup. I had made a small special request, which got printed in bold on the order ticket. When I went to pick it up, they admitted they'd never read it. But they fixed that. After bringing it home, I found part of my order was correct and part of it was totally different, like they'd given me part of someone else's order. That's never happened to me before with takeout. I ordered spring rolls with shrimp and they were room temperature, to the core, like they had never been refrigerated. It's not safe to do that. Then I tried the pad thai. It had the strong, very distinctive flavor of ketchup. I know restaurants are having staffing issues now, so I try to be patient with order mix ups, etc. But a restaurant should never skimp on food safety or ingredients like that. I ordered the chicken Panang Curry & Thai-style iced tea to go. I wish I had taken a picture of the food, but I was so eager to get rid of it after eating maybe a third that I did not think to take one. Panang Curry Review: 1. Appearance-unappealing 2. Texture-extremely runny/soupy rather than a thick, creamy coconut-based sauce that is the hallmark of good Thai curry. 3. Flavor-overuse of turmeric (and I am a fan of turmeric) to the point where other flavors were masked. Did not have the traditional flavors expected with Thai cuisine. The dish was also swimming in onions, which was not listed on the ingredients on the menu. I avoid onions due to intolerance, so would have expected that to be listed with the other ingredients. I'm not certain I even received the correct type of curry (although Panang curry was listed on the take out receipt, I suspect they either mistakenly or intentionally replaced it with an alternate, thinking I would not notice. Maybe they ran out of the Panang?? IDK) 4. Accompanying rice: was not Jasmine rice. Did not taste good. 5. Overall quality: looked and tasted cheap and not at all like real Thai food. 6. Cost: poor value. At $ 15.95 for the dish, I would have expected higher quality ingredients and more chicken and vegetables (other than cheap onions). They tried to mask the small quantity of actual solid ingredients by putting the food in a large container and with lots of curry sauce. Thai style iced tea: 1. While rather overly sweet, was palatable. That is why I gave the generous review of 2 stars instead of 1. I am from a state where we have lots of tasty, more authentic Thai food, so inauthentic attempts at Thai food put me off (sorry to sound like a food snob, but it's the truth). I am always wary of Chinese restaurants that also have a "Thai" menu. I know to avoid them. But now I will also avoid THAI restaurants that also have a Chinese menu. Awful. This was my first time here, and I decided to buy my family dinner and pick it up for the night. When I walked into the restaurant to get my pickup order, it took the lady 10 min to notice me standing at the front waiting area (the restaurant was not busy). I was informed my order wasn't ready yet, so I sat down and waited another 15 min... the same lady asked for my name again, and my order had been sitting on the table the entire time. I waited an extra 25 min for a pickup order that had been sitting there the entire time. The food was a huge disappointment. I chose this restaurant based off of the ratings, but the food I received last night was awful. The "golden encrusted tofu topped with peanut" was bland, watery, and there was no sign of peanuts. The cheese rolls were okay, still bland. The calamari was disgusting. It was mainly batter and super dry and bland. The curry was way too spicy to eat, even though I ordered it at a low spice level. I eat curry about once a week, and this curry made me throw up because of how upset my stomach was after eating it. Also, the portions were awful and they didn't fill the curry container. For the price and amount of good ratings, I expected this place to be way better. I eat Thai food at least once a week and this place is absolutely disgusting, bland, and has horrible service. Fresh rolls are just full of lettuce and to e paper on them tough and dried out. You are supposed to eat what you take but couldn't eat them, to chewy. Sharing to curious Thai food lovers my experience: I ordered delivery for the Phad Kee Mao and some hot & sour soup with Thai Iced Tea The Kee Mao was made correctly-- aside from taste. The noodles were there, veggies seemed fresh, and the spice level for me (4/5) was perfect. It looked great, but when I bite into the food, the pop of awesome Thai flavor wasn't there. No salt, just spice. If you order, expect other Kee Mao dishes to be very very bland in taste. The hot and sour soup was also bland, and only warm. I think it may have been microwaved, but I'm not sure. The funny part was it seemed to be filled to the brim with bamboo shoots. In my opinion, not worth $7.00 for the quality and size. My Thai Ice Tea tasted amazing. My recommendations: Ploy Thai's food won't kill you. It looks good, and the proper Thai feel is there, except for the disappointingly bland taste. Okay, with in the first time trying this place I came back two days laters and than the day after that.. yes I now have a massive problem. I LOVE PAD THAI and Ploy makes some great pad thai and even better Pad Kee Mao (I get mine with no meat or egg). I also get mine level 3 or level 4 if I really want to harm my self that day. What's wrong with the Woodlands?!?!?! I've tried to get Thai food now twice since moving out here and both have been very unsuccessful. This one has mixed reviews so sometimes I never know if bad or good reviews are based on the fact that Americans expect every other ethnicity to bend their culture and food to ours, therefore not knowing good Thai if it hit them in the face. However, this was despicable. Over priced and overall crap food, none of it even authentic Thai. I would consider myself well versed in cuisine and know good versus bad, this was bad, I mean very bad. Not even American standards or I'm really drunk would justify this crap. When I saw the rose top for the drinks and the hearts they make in the rice I had a bad feeling, other cultures recognizing our ignorance while we don't. When they pander in this manner to Americans its 99 out of a 100 times a very bad sign. I got the Tum Yum, usually a good way to tell if they can develop flavors, it wasn't even close. I'm not sure what they were going for with this. The flavor profile laws so far off, it wasn't even funny. In the picture you can see they added tomatoes and the chicken had to be of the lowest quality. Then I got those Pad Kra Praw with beef, so I had a good mix of their offerings. The beef wasn't beef, not a 100% what that was other than chewy and had a weird after taste. The sauce was overwhelming and saturated everything to the point of trying to cover up the food. The only redeeming thing as to why I can even justify 1 star is that their Thai Tea is decent. Not great, not terrible, but ok. Oh and they did alright with their plain steamed white rice. You may think that is a no brainer, but I've seen these restaurants even mess that up. Also very over priced for a soup and 1 entree it was $23. I find that stupid when I can go to Nidda downtown and get authentic quality Thai for about the same. I am learning that the Woodlands may be too white and blind to real authentic food out here. So the swindlers out there that want to sell a variety of food must flock to this area. If your in the Woodlands just go to the Cheesecake Factory and call it a day. read more

My favorite Thai restaurant of all time! It is one of The Woodlands' best kept secrets. The staff is friendly and my glass is always full. The main thing that separates Ploy Thai from other local Thai restaurants is it's amazing appetizer bar. The bar holds fresh soups, spring rolls, different salad options, and a huge variety of freshly-made hand rolled sushi. They also have a full bar. I always stick with the curry of the day when I'm here. Today I had the Panang curry, extra spicy. It was the perfect amount of heat. Just remember they have a "no to-go box" policy, so come hungry! I am surprised by the low reviews here. This place is clean, has fresh food and some of the best curries in the city. The selection of the appetizer bar is excellent from Thai and Vietnamese offering to Sushi. Yu could literally just come for the "appetizer" bar and eat an entire meal. The soups are freshly made and also very good here. My only complaint is that they will not let you take a to go box at lunch time and i get the strategy. People get a free appetizer bar with any meal purchase and you could literally make a hefty meal of the bar and take your entire plate to go. I just hate that I walk away with over half a plate of food left behind. The staff is friendly, they do not let plates stack up on tables and are wick to refill. They are SUPER kid friendly and even make adorable mickey Mouse shaped rice for the kids. LOVE Ploy Thai! read more

Family was in Woodlands late for ice skating & holiday lighting and too hungry to drive to our usual places in Houston. This was the closest Thai restaurant so we decided to take a chance. Son's Pad Thai was just mediocre (we had not read reviews prior). Tofu fried rice (had vegetarians to feed) was also mediocre and under seasoned. Pad Kra Pow (stir fry veggies & chicken with basil) was spicy and flavorful; same for Masaman curry with tofu. I didn't get to try the fish but family liked it. Staff was attentive. They live up to their motto: "Come hungry, leave healthy". Walking into the restaurant, one of the first things you'll notice is the nice large mural that covers the entire wall to your right. Decor looks nice and authentic along with the many figurines and paintings inside the restaurant. Usually I stick with dinner here and avoid the lunch/buffets that I'm not too fond of here. Service here is pretty good and friendly. Even when it's somewhat crowded, our food comes out quickly. They're kid-friendly here. When my daughter orders rice, the pile of rice on her plate will either come out as a star or Mickey Mouse-shape. We start off with a bit of soup, poh taek. It's a great soup that's slightly spicy, sweet, sour, but always full of flavor. With the mussels, shrimp, scallops, and squid, it's a great seafood delight to start things off. The tomatoes, basil, and leaves gives it more of a stew quality similar to Vietnamese canh chua but with a better variety of seafood meats. I wished this was served in a large bowl for a meal than just an appetizer soup. Sometimes I'll order it later to go with my meal and dump some white rice in it for a good stew. Next up, soft shell crab comes out. It's a great dish with the delicious soft shell crab served on top of a pile of steamed vegetables all smothered with their triple flavor sauce. It takes the crisp away from the crab, but that sweet tangy sauce more than makes up for it. I order it Thai-hot, but like Thai Gourmet, they always dissuade me from making this choice and think I can't handle it since I'm not Thai. Seriously, why even offer it if you're reluctant to serve it? It's spicy, but not unbearably so. Comes with white rice, but I prefer to eat this with my noodles. Pad kee mao is a solid option here. The rice noodles are stir-fried perfectly with fried eggs, basil, bamboo, and garlic. Ordered it with beef tonight which was not as thin as I would've liked but it was so tender that it didn't matter. Don't care for the tomato served with it, but an excellent dish nevertheless. You can never go wrong with this dish as its very similar to Cantonese beef chow fun, Vietnamese pho xao, and Malay chow kueh teow. Ploy Thai has a lot of other good dishes here from the curries to tiger cried to their good appetizers here. It's not the spiciest option (Thai Gourmet reigns supreme) and certainly not the quirkiest (Kanomwan), but Ploy offers a great solid flavorful option for Thai food in the Woodlands which keeps me coming back regularly when I'm too lazy to drive into Houston. read more

I like they have a smaller buffet table with all sorts of goodies from soups, salads, sushi etc,,, plus you order your normal meal. I love the daily coconut milk curry specials they have.
