The Plough & Sail feels located far away from civilisation, at the end of the road to nothing. It's a great, lengthy but leisurely drive out to Paglesham. It is surrounded by a beautiful area in between the rivers Roach and Crouch which are I think part of the Thames delta. The well-known local gastropub is very traditional and has a long history, now owned and run by the Oliver Family (Jamies' uncle). They don't do fancy coffees and things like splitting the bill and paying individually are frowned upon but they do serve beautiful food. There is an a la carte menu and a daily chalkboard menu with a very affordable two course set menu. Nice fireplace, beautiful very old building, mind your head! read more

This pub is in a higgledy-piggledy 15th century building with lots of charm. There is plenty of seating inside, while outside there are nice gardens with seating and a decent play area for children. Drinks prices are very reasonable and encompass a range of wines and beers, both local and from micro-breweries further afield along with the 'lager' standards. The food is where this place raises it's head above other country pubs. This pub is owned by the 'Olivers', as in Jamie Oliver. It shows. A dedication to good ingredients treated well characterises this place. We both plumped for the Seafood Platter. It was super. Really 'oaky' smoked salmon (just the right pink too, not bright orange!), was set off with pickled herring and lightly smoked eel, fresh prawns and a delicious crab lightly dusted with paprika to bring out the sweetness and flavour, all served with a generous salad and a round of good buttered bread. The other food options also looked great and there was much lip-smacking from fellow diners who recommended the puddings. Service was good throughout, despite it being really busy (this on a weekday lunchtime in Summer). I'd recommend booking for the Sunday roasts! Paglesham East End (around 10 miles North of Southend-on-Sea) is one of those impossibly lovely Essex villages right on the marshy wetlands that charactise the coast between Southend-on-Sea and Burnham-on-Crouch. There is a good walk from there along the coast wall to Paglesham Churchend. read more

Plough & Sail - The Plough and Sail, Paglesham, North Rochford, Southend-on-Sea, Essex - Pubs Near Me - Rochford, ESS

A very rustic pub in an old building, with a wide range of beers and spirits, including specials and regional brews. The staff are polite and friendly, and always serve with a smile. The prices are a little more than most places; but you're paying for quality with the food, and the same with the drinks, so it's well worth it. Highly recommended to someone looking for a relaxing meal/drink in a nice comfortable environment. read more

The Plough and Sail out at Paglesham, is as far as you can travel out from Rochford, and when you get to the end of the road, you are at the Plough and Sail. Has an idylc setting, lovely and quiet off the beaten track. Offers a wide selection of freshly cooked dishes. Pleasant staff. Due to its location your own transport is essential, provides a large car park. read more

Very friendly and busy pub with great food. We visited on Bank Holiday Sunday lunchtime. We had no reservation but we were made welcome and managed to find a table in the bar area and some stools. The food was great and arrived in good time despite the restaurant being completely packed. Definitely recommended and excellent beer too. No telly, no Muzak!!! Hooray!!!! read more

Had a lovely Sunday early evening meal here. Seven of us had two courses, most had steaks, I had liver n onions. Good quality, and pleasant service. The inn is very old and full of character, and filled up quickly so a nice buzz. We had starters of scallops, pate, crab salad, herrings, field mushrooms. Everyone enjoyed these. Steaks were nice and juicy, though were a little inconsistent in the cooking. No room for desserts, though the board looked very tempting. Was just over 200 quid for seven, two courses and a round of drinks. Would go back, and recommend for a nice country pub meal. read more

A very lovely pub in an old building, with a wide range of beers and spirits, and a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy it The prices are a little more than most places but you get what you pay for and whatever you do, do not forget to bring your walking boots for quite possibly the best walks in essex read more

Good old english pub with good food and beer.

I've been to this restaurant quit a few times and had good food and service. On Sunday we had a table booked for 4pm and there was a full menu so some of us ordered roast lamb. To say it was the worst meal I have ever been served in a restaurant is putting it mildly, The potatoes were hard and dry the veg was overcooked and the lamb was more fat than meat ugh. It was obviously what was left from lunch. would not go there again. read more

This used to be my favourite haunt when I lived in Essex. It holds so many happy memories that I still visit at least once a year. There are fabulous walks to be had here. If you fancy taking your dog for a fantastic walk alone the estuary then having a real wholesome meal, this is definitely the place to go. The atmosphere in this pub is fantastic, real oldie worldly . You won't find a more traditional pub anywhere else in England. There is a good beer garden too for the kids in the summer. I have never been disappointed with the food or the service here. Well worth a visit. read more
