The home of the Dublin University Players - one of the most prolific drama societies in Ireland, the Players Theatre sees approximately two productions staged a week all written, directed and starring students from Trinity College Dublin. Showtime's are typically matinees (1pm) and the evening (6pm/8pm). All shows are open to the public with an entrance fee usually no more than €5. 'Players' is an excellent platform to see new talent prosper and has to date nurtured several of Ireland's foremost artistic personalities, for instance; actress Pauline McLynn (Father Ted's Mrs Doyle), U2 manager Paul McGuinness, director Lynne Parker as well as Michael Colgan, artistic director of the Gate Theatre. The expansive range of productions vary considerably, offering up everything from slapstick to Chekov and hence making it well worth a visit to watch the next generation of Irish talent perform in innovative productions set within the intimate milieu of this enchanting theatre.
