It seems to all people are talking about these days, and that's not a bad thing! I am utterly in love with the 'Play Me, I'm Yours' pianos at various locations around Belfast. The brainchild of London artist Luke Jerram, the pianos have been touring Europe for the past while. Currently in Belfast, the ten pianos were all decorated by local people enthusiastic about arts and creativity. It includes designs from local girl Claire Concannon; who knitted a sweater for her piano, Kev Largey; who chose an urban graffiti piece for his piece, and Heather Wilson (Duke Special's wife) who used aluminium, glass, and photographs to create her visualisation of a 3D piece. Also the Royal National Institute for the Blind who decorated their piano with lyrics from the great Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles.
In two weeks times (very sadly I must say) the pianos will be removed from our streets and (happily) be donated to schools or local community groups. The ten locations of the pianos are; City Hall, Commercial Court, Corn Market , Cotton Court, First Presbyterian Church (the one on Rosemary Street) Linen Hall Library, Northern Bank (the Waring Street / North Street one), St Anne's Square, Tesco on Royal Avenue and at Writers Square.
I LOVE THESE PIANOS! I think we should petition for features like this to be kept on our streets. I was at the Rosemary Street one and was wowed by the most fantastic piano player accompanied by the incredible opera singing of a local girl. I was blown away. I am more than in love with them. *BIG BIG HEART!* read more
