The Healer

This place was hopping! We didn't realize it was the night for 12 Bars of Charity when we stopped in for a drink and some food from Eat Duckbill. Bouncer at the door, DJ up front playing great music, bartenders were hustling! Ordered The Healer from the drink menu, it was great! I am on a mezcal kick, and this was a great choice. Found a booth in the next room, ordered some food, and enjoyed my drink and the music!

The BF and I come here for late-night eats and cocktails when trying to figure out where we eventually want to end-up. They have an chill vibe and the music is classic. They offer karaoke and play the latest movies. It's a medium space that can get really crowded with limited seating. The staff is friendly and helpful and the bartenders can create something to meet your fancy. Laura is an amazing bartender and will craft an off the menu cocktail. The have creative cocktail creations which are hit-n-miss. They read well on the board but taste off upon arrival. This is what gets me. We generally have to stick to our go-to, the naked and famous or bee's knee's. Also, they run out of ingredients sometimes on the weekly specials so IG may say this is the special for the week and you get there and the drink is unavailable. Another off thing is their tab system which doesn't accumulate each drink at the end but actually charges you individually so you're always over charged on your credit card and then have to wait to ensure the error resolves itself. We enjoy the popcorn chicken, fries, especially the fried tofu and brussels sprouts. I would recommend checking them out, bring cash if possible

I love this little place, the drinks are good, and don't sleep on the kitchen in the back. The popcorn chicken is perfect late night food. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and make great cocktails. I also like the variety of shows they have here. It's always a good time to

Oh man, if you haven't been to Platypus in the Grove, you're seriously missing out. This place has quickly become my absolute favorite bar in St. Louis. The vibe is super laid-back and the staff is so fun. Platypus was opened in late 2021 by Meredith Barry. Meredith is incredibly talented and she's also one of the kindest people you'll ever meet. You might recognize her from Netflix's "Drink Masters," where she showcased her exceptional mixology skills. The bar itself has received national recognition, being honored as the "Best Under-the-Radar Bar" by Liquor.com. It's no surprise, given the expertly mixed drinks and the friendly, dive-bar feel that makes everyone feel at home. There's always something going on at Platypus whether it's a DJ or karaoke or the staff clowning around. I love spots that build community like that. Protips: Take a pic by the Love Rainbow art outside and definitely go into the bathroom in the corner.

I went here one evening and it was lovely! There was a DJ playing, it wasn't too crowded yet, and the patio was beautiful. Drinks were pretty good, I did not order any food. The platypus decor around the bar was such a lovely touch!

As st. Louis as st. Louis gets. If you're looking for dope locals, eclectic decor, a bit of pin ball, and, of course, one of the most well executed bar programs in the lou, you go to platypus. This place is not for the faint of heart. This is for the gritty, the real, and the lovers of hidden gems. The bar tenders know what they're doing. Grab a classic or snag one of their more creative endeavors. There is something for everyone here, and if you don't know what you want, the folks behind the bar got you, just trust em. From happy hour, to your party destination, or maybe even a night cap platypus is a st louis staple with a diverse crowd sharing smiles, sips, and memories. If you're in town for 1 night and need a drink platypus, unequivocally, needs to be at the top of your list. If you live here, and haven't been I suggest going yesterday. Culture yourself, immerse yourself, baptize yourself. Because, one trip will turn into 2 and 2 into 20!

Drinks, atmosphere, and staff were all really great! Easy place to come back to with friends

Great time taking in live music. No waitstaff, so grab and go at the bar. Got a local tap that was good. Staff were friendly. Parking is off street free, but could be limited. Atmosphere in the old building located in The Grove was just what I was looking for. The hood is mixed on homes, but I felt safe. I did get food from Eat Duck Bill which is a walk up inside this establishment under another Yelp listing. I will absolutely return. 4.5 rounding down with no waitstaff.

Came in on a Tuesday evening around 730. It wasn't busy in the bar area, but it looked like there was more action in the area adjacent to the bar. Craft menu seemed kind of limited to me, and it's written on the fancy chalkboard on the wall. Atmosphere has a fun, hip vibe. I had the Cioco Knows and hubby had the Grand Scheme. The presentation was gorgeous, and both cocktails were tasty. One thing I did not like, and for which I deducted a star- no prices are listed on anything. I HATE that. It's so tacky to ask how much a cocktail is (at least to me), so we ordered blindly, not knowing what the tab would be. 2 cocktails came to $28. They were great, don't get me wrong, but I don't know that they were worth $14 each. Cool place to check out if you've never been.

Drink Platypus, Eat Duckbill Give me neon lights, Chooch's Popcorn Chicken, arcade games, and "platio" seating any night of the week! Self-described as "an every person watering hole," Platypus is a neighborhood bar planted at the west entrance of The Grove. Eat Duckbill is the food counter found inside! The cocktails are ART! And the popcorn chicken? Bite-sized brilliance! Butchered and hand-breaded in-house, these chicken-thigh nuggets are crispy, juicy, and accompanied by an incredible lineup of condiments. I especially suggest the Agave Mustard, but be sure to try them all!

The cocktail list is solid, and the beer selection is seriously impressive, packed with a great mix of local breweries and unique options. There's also a nice outdoor seating area, but honestly, the magic of this spot is at the bar. The atmosphere there really brings everything together. One of the coolest touches is the large display of vinyl records, it adds a ton of character and gives the whole place a unique, almost nostalgic energy. We didn't try the food this time since we just stopped in for drinks, but it's definitely on the list for next visit. Looking forward to coming back and spending more time enjoying this gem of a spot.

But the bartender was quick and the food, mac and cheese, came out in no time. The winter sangria was a serious drink. Not a punchy, fruity sangria. This was a winey sangria. It was a pretty serious drink. I'd probably get a weaker, sweeter drink next time, because that is my taste. The mac and cheese was pretty good. Quite hot! It came packed in this little bowl. I felt so cozy here... It made for one of my preferred eating out in the city in winter experiences.

'ssippi is a new(ish) wine bar set towards the western end of the collection of bars, restaurants, and shops that are the heart of the strip. The inside has a large wrap about bar and some limited seating. There is a very good selection of wine and mixed drinks and an okay selection of beer. The prices are reasonable. There is a very limited food menu which largely consists of snacks rather than proper entrees. So this is a great pre/post drink spot rather than somewhere you would spend an evening. The bartenders were fine. Nothing stood out either in a good or bad way. The mixed drink my wife had was very good. The orange wine I had was good, a bit on the dry side but overall no complaints from either of us. Without a highlight of the spot is the large patio. It is mostly taken up by large bench style seating. So you have to be okay sitting next to strangers. I actually enjoy these types of settings and I ended up chatting up the group to our right. There are a couple tables but they are few and far between. There are some overhead canopies and lights, and there was a nice vibe and energy. I was there and it was crowded. I really enjoyed it. Just two additional things to note. The bathroom line was very long. It must only be one stall. The entire time I was there it was a dozen people deep. The only other downside is that my wife and I felt old. The vibe on a late(ish) Saturday night was mainly 20 year olds. If I was in grad school or a recent graduate I would absolutely adore this place. Even if your 30s this probably is a good vibe. Once you hit 40 though you may feel a bit out of place on busy nights (or it will make you feel young again!)

The staff was very friendly and helpful, suggesting some of their favorite items. I love the vibe of the restaurant. It's just very aesthetically pleasing and a cute space overall. I also appreciate their dedicated parking lot as sometimes parking in the Grove can be difficult to find, especially on busier days. I tried their mushroom fried rice and as someone who is not the biggest mushroom lover. I really enjoyed it! They have a great selection of cocktails, as well as some tasty apps before your meal. I tried the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was well-balanced and enjoyable, though the pour felt a bit light for a martini. Normally one martini gives me a slight buzz, but that wasn't the case here. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and they were tasty overall, though they had a tangy seasoning dusted on top that seemed a little odd at first. Surprisingly, it still worked. I ordered the Good Burger, and it was honestly one of the most flavorful smash burgers I've ever had. I was genuinely impressed. I got the sauce on the side since it also came with the onion rings, and unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of it -- it was a bit runny and lacked flavor. My friend ordered the vegan burger and absolutely loved it. The inside of the restaurant was cute and had a great atmosphere, though there was an unusual smell indoors, so I was very thankful we were able to grab one of the outdoor tables. Outdoor seating is pretty limited, though, so keep that in mind if you prefer sitting outside.

The cocktails were perfectly balanced, the pork was cooked sous vide and so succulent, and the veggies were tender with drool-worthy flavor. Most of all, everything tasted so delicious and real. It was also not too expensive for this high quality of dining, delivered with warm, genuine service. Our dining experience was an incredible 10/10.
