I like this place. My first time in a Plato's Closet which is strange coming from AZ where it was a lot closer to home than this place is to where I live now (Goldsboro). This was the closest clothing resale place to me. Actually I was planning on going to My sisters closet but they close earlier than Plato's. The store is clean and organized. I was greeted and the young ladies were friendly. I was surprised to find that they have a men's section too! :) The place is geared towards younger peeps. Think teen/college age. Short, mini, tight things everywhere, well except for the mens area. Great cute stuff for pretty cheap too! Shoes, purses, sunglasses, jewelry. Everything I checked out was less than $10. I did come to sell thing and out of the 3 grocery bags I brought they only took a pair of pants. Now that I know what they are lookin for I will go thru my closet and pull out that tight mini skirt and sell it here! :) read more

I brought in near-new Nike and Jordan sneakers, and the intake staff rejected them for being "too worn"--yet they have beat-up Jordans on display for $30. The lowball offer they gave me for the items they did take was an insult. There is zero consistency, and management isn't around to handle complaints. Highly disappointed. read more

They've bought some of my items before but are extremely picky, yet I see strings and extremely worn down items for sale? It's honestly hard to find anything good here, the style of clothing they pick is trashy. I have found some good items however, but I guess it's hard to be a female who wants to wear something that has more coverage than strings and bras. They are also always playing the most annoying music here and the staff are extremely rude. I love thrifting, and this is one of the only thrift stores in town so I go often, but always have to make sure I'm in the right mood to deal with the judgmental, rude, and annoying employees behind the counter. My friends and I have a running joke about how rude they are. It never surprises us anymore. read more

I had an extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience last night at Plato's Closet in Greenville, NC. I brought in freshly washed, neatly folded clothes, organized in a clean laundry basket and sorted into categories like dresses, athletic wear, going-out tops, swimsuits, and more. These weren't just random pieces; they included high-quality brands like Lululemon, Gymshark, Vineyard Vines, Patagonia, Nike, Under Armour, Southern Tide, and others. From the moment I arrived, the experience was unpleasant. The employee at the counter was unfriendly, didn't offer to help me get my items inside, I was just thinking at least hold the door open as I struggled with my basket. I received a text almost immediately after dropping my items off saying they had been "processed" and were ready for pickup, which didn't make sense considering the number of pieces I brought. When I went to the counter, I was told they hadn't even gone through my clothes because they "had an odor." This was shocking to me because everything had been freshly washed. I pride myself on being extremely clean, organized, and meticulous--honestly, I'm a very type A person. Many of the items I brought in were either brand new with tags or had never been worn. I feel that she was just too lazy to go through the items as she had more to go through. I calmly explained this to the employee, Olivia, but she was dismissive and rude as she told me that maybe my items being in the car or my house was the reason it smelled like "old food". Again, I have one of the cleanest rooms and cars you might ever see (thanks to be being so type A). She told me I should "maybe wash them again," which felt insulting. She handed me my clothes back, one pile being in disarray, undoing the hour of sorting and folding I had put into them (that I took the time to do to make it easier and more organized for the employe) To make matters worse, the store itself consistently smells unpleasant when you walk in, yet they claimed my clean clothes were the problem. And for a store that buys clothing at extremely low prices and resells them for two to three times more, you would think they would treat their customers with basic respect, or maybe not be so picky. I have shopped at this location many times, spending a VERY good amount of money here, but this experience was unacceptable. The unprofessionalism, the disrespectful tone, and the stereotyping I felt in that interaction have completely changed my opinion of this store. I left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and shocked that a company would treat a customer in this way. Plato's Closet may claim to value customers and quality items, but my experience proved otherwise. read more

WORSTTTTT customer service I've ever experienced. Employees don't even know the hours of the store. I brought plenty of items that Plato's posted on the instagram they were in search of. The girl at the counter proceeded to tell me I couldn't pick my items up tonight but they HAD to be picked up by 9 am in the morning (the store opens at 10). I asked why and they gave no reason. I then brought up the store opens at 10, and they said "oh then you must pick up by 10." I asked why I couldn't pick it up tonight and they said "it might not be ready tonight." I'm confused on how I pick it up when the store opens if it won't be ready tonight?? The girl behind the counter then proceeded to say "I'm sorry ma'am I forgot the hours of the store." I left frustrated and donated ALL of my items to goodwill. I WILL NOT be returning. (I am only giving one star because it's making me. I would rate this place 0). read more

I went in the store and brought all my gently used clothes and they were so lazy they didn't even look thru my stuff very disappointed in the customer service! they need to hire some better employees that will do their job!I had Levis ,Nautica ,Tommy Hillifiger and other name brands stuff in there and no stains on all of it ! read more

Will not be frequenting this store ever again. A friend was shopping here and was watched and followed the entire time she was in the store. In spite of that, she still purchased items. She watched the clerk remove the alarm off the items, bag them and receive payment . However, the exit alarm went off as she went out the door and the store clerk asked her ever so loudly to come back in and remove all the items. All this was carried out in front of other customers. After not finding any alarms on the clothing, she confesses the door alarm has been going off erroneously all day. My friend felt as though they were stalking her as if she was about to steal. When in fact all she wanted was to shop local, support a small biz and get a few t shirts. The experience was quite humiliating and discriminating. Close this place down! We won't be returning. read more

Store is of a nice size, fully stocked with lots of options. Unfortunately, it was the worst shopping experience. We were in Greenville for the open house at East Carolina University, a five hour drive from home. After 8-hours of touring, walking, and getting hot and tired. We decided to check out Plato's, we are familiar with the stores for we have one back home. My son picked out several items he wanted and proceeded to try them on only to be forced out of a dressing room without little explanation. Apparently someone left sensor buttons unattached in the shoes my son handed to the attendant and without actually accusing my son of stealing, his comment about the sensors rattling in the shoes left us dumbstruck. In reflection, we thought the rattle was the heavy metallic strap. Regardless, it took every bit of strength left in this tired body not to drop all of the items on the floor that were in my arms, gather my crew and leave. I knew such a move would make us look more suspicious. My son was shook and visibly hurt. Now the associate involved in the situation did apologize, and this review in no means is to reflect badly on his efforts to make things right. My son and I understand his zeal to protect store assets. We work retail as well. So we purchased our items and left. West bound for the mountains of NC. We are an hour out into our return trip and I realize I was overcharged for a pair of clearanced rubber boots. Too late to turn around, so i'm out $20+... So Plato's in Greenville. I had the worst experience shopping at your store. We will not be back. I would like to suggest training and/or review policy with your associates. Especially, technics to approach and apprehend a shoplifting suspect. read more

I understand that there will be times that my clothes won't be accepted. However, when I am trying to sell high end brands in great condition such as Columbia, Banana republic, Jcrew, etc., or Items which still have tags on them it's honestly aggravating. This Plato's Closet has a really good selection if you're looking for clothes compared to other stores. BUT - if you want to sell clothes to them it's pointless. Literally EVERY SINGLE TIME I call them and ask and they tell me they buy clothes until 8pm and then I bring my clothes around 6 after I get out of work and they turn me away because they are "backed up". I have serious reservations about the store in Greenville NC. My kids have taken clothes in there in on a couple of occasions. They wash them and fold them up very neatly before taking them. They're told their clothes are not the right style... After checking the clothes in the store it doesn't really make sense because we see the same style/brand clothes on the racks. All their clothes are name brand, and in great condition. We don't take them otherwise. I have actually seen clothes with stains, but my kids' clothing have none. I just don't know what criteria they follow but I know what mine is now. Also, they are dumped back in the bags, definitely not like they were received. Over trying to take my clothes here. Tried last night 10/22 at 7pm 2hrs before they closed. I walked in with a bag & the woman stopped me saying they're done buying for tonight. Ok cool. I say ill return when they opened and she said ok. I go again today 10/23 at 1210. They opened at 12. Honestly, waited for 10 minutes before someone came to the door at opening.... The night before I was five minutes past 8 (8:05 pm) when a lady said there wasn't enough time to process my clothes....after I had been there at 7:15 and she knew I had come all the way back. After all of that, I had Loft, J Crew, Bananna R. And boutique clothing... In pristine condition most bought this past year.... They took none. Which, at that point was actually a blessing.... Form your own opinion with this information, I have shopped their once before and wasn't as displeased, but after my last encounter I definately wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. I will be shopping elsewhere from now on as well as bringing any consignment to other shops. read more

While everything about this Platos closet is average and acceptable I was amazed at one of the actions of the sales associates. I was shopping with my toddler and was using my dressing room as a place to store personal items and clothes I liked, you know like any normal person would when there's not a line for a changing room. One of the associates put all my stuff away!!! And when I found her she was hanging up my personal belongings!!! Seriously? I was literally the only person in the store and she could've done me the courtesy of double checking with me that I was done with the room. She didn't apologize and gave me some attitude and left me to go find my clothes. To her credit she managed to find one article of my clothing without straining her eyes amongst all their rolling. I left shortly thereafter, to avoid saying anything nasty. What a turd, I wouldn't return if I lived close by. read more

While the staff seemed relatively efficient and courteous, if you are going to bring clothing in to sell, and it's a cold evening the night before, make sure that you don't load your car with your clothing the night before, because they cannot tell the difference between cold clothing and wet clothing... and they refuse to take cold clothing ‍ The place also seems a bit grimey inside. read more

What sucks here? Let's be honest. The place isn't close from where I live one store is an hour 1 way and an hour another. It was recommended by a friends friend. Before driving the hour there, we looked on the website to see what it is that was in trend and what it is that they needed and the website in no way said they were looking for just teen clothing it included men, women,children, & teen shoes scarves and coats dresses skirts and the like. At this point we drove the hour there we had purses we had Louis Vuitton, reebok, baby phat and other brands. we had jeans which were in a higher request we had winter coats we had leather coats, dresses they took none of the items we couldn't figure out why so upon looking around the store we see that the sizes were not all sizes. the sizes in the store only extra small, small,medium,large and extra-large there were no plus size clothes. So this must mean there are no plus size teens either. there were things there that looked like they came out of a dollar or thrift store. I wouldn't call it trendy. There were clothes that looked fresh out of the 1920s so I was certainly confused at what I was looking at in comparison to what the website asked for and also what they in the store were looking for they gave everything back that my friend and I bought with us. it was a waste of an hour it was a waste of a day to look through a bag takes 3 hours? Only to be called back to the store to offer us 6.00 for two items? this was my first time in the store and walking through the door I was asked for "trendy teen clothing" did I look like I had a teen just by standing there with my things? What made the girl behind the counter think I had a teen? disappointment is all you will leave with knowing that you come so very far expecting something after you read on the website what to bring, but once you get there they don't want it. so my conclusion is the store is for teens only to purchase from; .....adults, if you have made it out of your teens and into the 20s you are considered too old for the store nobody that is plus size is welcome. This store so obviously discriminated against larger sized people because teens don't get past extra large sizes. No one is plus sized as a teen it's just a very discriminatory store and they need to rethink their piss poor way of handling clothing as well as using the word "trendy" if they could afford Prada and shopping at Neiman Marcus they would be there NOT this over dressed thrift store. finally, this store is a waste of time. read more

Will never be going back! Called before I went asking what items they were looking for. The girl that answered told me jeans and summer dresses. I walk in the store with my container. The girl rudely says to me we are done buying for the night. I informed her one I had literally just gotten off the phone with one of the associates and two it was only 7. I could understand if I walked in 830 seeing as how you close at 9. The girl then said I will look through them. She never even looked it through it. Had another associate tell me they were seasonal. But, yet a big sign on the wall saying jeans were needed. My container was filled with new name brand jeans and summer dresses which is what I was told they wanted. meanwhile all of the associates were just standing around talking and carrying on. Clearly, not interested in actually working but it was her stuck up attitude that really did it for me. You may not care that I don't go back in but I have told everyone I know about it. read more
