Discovered this place while visiting my girlfriend one weekend in Athens. Wasn't really sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to find some good deals with friendly people. Best deal thus far has been my mint Nike Shox Plus for $25 which would have been $130 new. We've also found some good stuff from Holister, AE, and Abercrombie all at steal prices. Do not waste your time and try too sell your clothes here ! I've taken 4-5 baskets full of clothes to this location , including 3 dresses priced at $150 each with tags still atttached and they took nothing ! An employee told me denim jeans were in high demand so I brought in 35 pair of Abercrombie , American eagle, lucky brand jeans and they took nothing . Clothes on racks are over priced . The only time I ever go shopping here is when the 90% sale is happening. That's when it's truly worth your bucks... try clothes mentor or just another Plato's. When I do a review it's always on the positive end. Nothing like this. I have NEVER wrote a negative review in my life. 99% of the girls in there had the snottiest attitude. They DID NOT care that you were there. This generation..... PRIVILEGED BRATS. Can't say please or thank you. I understand if you're having a bad day. But ALL of the employees were snotty but 1, maybe! I am so upset about this. It's so sad. I would absolutely tear into my kid if she acted even the slightest bit like those girls in there. This review is in regard to SELLING to them only: I understand, at times we all need money and selling stuff might be the only way to get it, but find somewhere else. This place is an absolute joke. The prices they offer are insulting. A pair of Doc Martens, worn twice, about a dozen pairs of bonobo chinos, multiple RL Polo shirts, some with the tags still on them, among other dress shirts...offered $28. If you need to clean out your closet or get rid of clothes, donate it to a local shelter or non-profit. If you need to sell them, go to Buford. A pawn shop would call these guys cheapskates. I went to sell a basket of my clothes and to start with no one greeted me, horrible customer service and then as i was waiting for them to check my clothes . I offered to help this lady b/c she didn't know how to speak any english. i kindly asked the employee about price and i clearly did math wrong which i know. i overheard them talk about me and make fun of me for a simple mistake. definitely rude af. i would get it if i was rude but i simple just asked for a price check and got laughed at?? read more

walked in on a saturday (albeit july 1st), and they just weren't accepting drop-offs. apparently that's only on scheduled days now. i didn't interact much with the staff, so no comments on the employees but it's like whoever is running it is just pouring kerosene on the dumpster fire that is that place. read more

The worst Plato's I've ever been to. Rude employees and they never accept your clothes even if they are brand new with tags and an expensive brand. "Not up to date" enough for them somehow. And if they do accept something, you might as well had taken it to Goodwill bc the time spent waiting on the rude ppl looking through your stuff is NOT worth the 3 or 4 dollars they'll give you for an originally $70 garment. Overall, if you're looking to give your clothes another life, DON'T GO HERE. Go to any other Plato's or the Goodwill right across the street. Don't sell your clothes here it's a waste of time. Walked in with a bag of clothes and it literally took them 2-3 minutes. Could have at least played it off like they looked in my bag. All of my clothes were in the same order which I folded and packed. Mind you I had some Ralph Lauren, Adidas, MLB Jersey, and Columbia fleeces. Don't sell here go to Buford location. read more

Worst Plato's closet I have ever been too. Brought in an entire bag of namebrand things and they only took five things out of the bag. They checked everything within 10 minutes and I only got $17 back, each item is at least worth $50 or more. Their excuse was most things were out of style, how can a denim jacket be out of style in Athens, Georgia. Terrible service, I will not be going back there again. read more

Yes I went to Plato's in Athens and the clothing was worse looking then what I was gone to sell they offer me $6.00 for a Iman purse and a pair of boots this is a shame so I gave it all to Goodwill they told me they would look it up on the computer the things I was giving away were Slinky,Anthony, 5th ave and Ashley Stewart just to name a few my daughter thinks they did not even look at the items because the boots and purse was on the top so they want ugly clothes like they have in the store i wasted my time and my daughters so they are doing fraud as far as I'm concern so don't go fine a consignment shop i would have if they had one where I'm located read more

This place sucks. Their clothes are usually way behind the times and kind of ugly. But their "buying" system is a whole other problem. They're so picky about everything and find strange reasons to turn down everything. I recently brought in a load of clothes and a few of the items were things I had bought semi recently at the store. They passed on everything and said my clothes smelled. I had just washed all of them!!! This place sucks. The location is horrible and the store is always messy. I was worried about coming here because there were quite a few bad reviews, but I had a really good experience. I brought clothes to sell and they were so nice over the phone and in person. They bought almost everything that I brought. I brought clothes that were in style right now. I got a really good amount for everything too. I'm definitely going to come back here in the future. I loved the Plato's Closet in Augusta, then I started to dislike their buying practices and the merchandise selection there as well. So, I stopped going altogether!!! Then, I realized they went out of business!!! Probably for the things I disliked!!! Well, I was in town with my cousin looking and shopping around. We had just left the mall and as we were riding down the street I noticed a Plato's Closet close to the mall as we left town. I made a mental note to come back and check them out. I had a few reservations about what I was going into because my other experiences with the company, but they weren't strong enough for me not to go in and look around. I'm so glad I went in and checked them out!!! The store was much bigger than the one I used to shop in. It was very organized and the selection of items was incredible. I didn't even get to look around at all the section because I found so much nice stuff in the women's dress section. If you know me, you know I LOVE a dress!!! They are no hassle, easy to wear, and if it's they are cut the right way, they are very flattering!!! I found over 10 dresses that I liked and tried on and out of the 10, I bought about 7 of them!!! My total of all my purchases where just over $40!!! That was a SUPER steal for me!!! I usually pay over $40 for one dress!!! And the items I bought are very one of a kind pieces that you probably couldn't find anywhere else!!! I'm so glad that I came and check them out!!! Whenever I'm in town or close to Athens, I will definitely stop in and shop till I drop!!! This store is now added to my favorite shopping spots list!!!! read more

The staff here is extremely helpful and friendly! Great selection of clothes although limited in anything bigger than medium/large at least when we stopped by. The smell of what I assumed was febreeze was a little over powering, but all in all a great place to find trendy and unique "gently used" clothing at a reasonable price. We were very impressed with how knowledgeable and involved the staff were and will definitely make this a regular shopping place! read more

They claim to have the "friendliest" employees but I've been there twice and they've been extremely rude. I took some of my clothes there & they just threw the receipt at me. This place is a joke. Have taken lots of very nice name brand clothes in great condition (all pre-approved by my very picky teenage daughter) but most were rejected. Was told mainly that they were not current - labels were old. How then can they explain wanting to buy one of my husband's sweaters that I know was at least 10 years old (I took this and a couple and other older items as a "test."). Don't waste your time. Buyers are inconsistent and they treat your clothes with no respect. Just throw all the clothes they don't want into a crumpled mess. I wouldn't recommend shopping there either. DON'T take your clothes here!!! The girls that helped me were incredibly rude when I tried to drop off about 50 items that were in excellent condition. They were all brand name clothing and some were even brand new with tags!! They wouldn't take ANY of it and wouldn't tell me why! All she said was "old labels" and when I told her a lot of it i bought brand new from last year from places like American Eagle and Forever 21 she didn't listen and handed my clothes back and I could tell she didn't even unfold and look at everything. I think of myself as something of a Platos Closet/thrift connoisseur and this is by far the best Platos closet that I have ever been too especially in Georgia (metro Atlanta area).They have an amazing selections of clothes.The clothes aren't visibly dirty or smelly. They keep in stock good brands like free people,Patagonia, J crew,Urban outfitters etc.You can score things there that range in the 100 for only 30 .I am a frequent customer. The staff are nice enough never met one with an attitude. With that being said because they have such and awesome selections( I am guessing from the college kids nearby) they are very picky when it comes to buying your clothes. I have a adopted the attitude that I just bring clothes to sell when I want to buy clothes from them. I can take the same clothes to another Platos closet and make 20 to 30 bucks and here only make 7. I am completely fine with it though because there selection is so good so I can't even be angry. Plato's Closet used to be a fun diversion in the Beechwood Shopping Center. I especially enjoyed visiting while waiting for my movie to start, and often purchased something while there. Now they're next to a "World of Futons" in a part of town that does not allow for easily dropping by. I will be a far less frequent shopper now that they have moved. read more
