It's in the leafy Ribes-Roges area of town adjacent to its splendid beach, though a 15-20 minute walk from the centre of Vilanova itself. We stayed for two weeks on several occasions and found it all perfectly acceptable. The hotel styles itself as an 'aparthotel'. The rooms (36sq m) come with a seating area, a good-sized bathroom, satellite TV, air-conditioning and a small kitchen area with fridge, cooking rings, utensils and crockery. The complex has three buildings, set around small gardens with a swimming pool. Internet access is available in the reception, and wi-fi has been introduced recently. Secure underground car parking is available, though space is limited - check in advance. There's a small bar and cafe, which does a reasonable buffet breakfast in the morning, and very cheap three-course fixed-price dinner menus (although there are plenty of better restaurants close by and, of course, you could self-cater on a longer break). There's a small launderette if you are staying for any length of time, and want to keep luggage to a minimum. The clientele varies from families and couples in summer to mainly business travellers in winter. Service was helpful and the rooms were kept clean. Low season deals can be very good indeed on the web (try for around EUR70 per night B&B for two people): ensure your option includes breakfast and taxes.

After a lot of local campaigning, a line was eventually built in 1881. This soon became the main line as it provided a shorter, more direct route. A major engine depot and railway works was provided at Vilanova, together with the splendid large station, which survives almost unaltered to-day. Built in the Spanish colonial style, with a long cast-iron portico on the railway side, it contains a bar (with the station's toilets), ticket office and a small newsagent. The square in front of the station named after one of the main sponsors of the railway, Eduard Maristany - has a taxi rank and is also the main bus station for local and district bus services. There are also ticket machines for the suburban services bear in mind the Spanish oddity that the ticket office may not accept payment by credit card (the machines will). Fares are low by British standards: a single to Barcelona costs EUR2.50, and a single for the two-hour plus journey to Lleida costs around EUR8. The main service off-peak consists of four trains an hour on the C2 suburban line (Rodalies or Cercanias in Catalan/Spanish - with a white and red livery) to and from Barcelona, via Sitges. This provides a half-hourly stopping service originating at Vilanova (usually from platforms 10-13) which alternates with a half-hourly semi-fast service originating at Sant Vicenç de Calders, further south. Trains take around 45 minutes into Barcelona. This is augmented on week-days to provide 8 trains an hour in the morning peak. Stopping services call at El Prat de Llobregat station, where you can change to line C10 for the 5-minute ride to Barcelona Airport. In addition, some medium distance (Media Distencia - orange and white livery) trains call at Vilanova, providing a direct service to places such as Torredembarra, Tarragona, Reus, Lleida and Tortosa. Tickets and passes for the suburban trains are not valid on Medium Distance trains, nor do the ticket machines sell tickets for these journeys.

We stayed at the Hotel MiM Sitges next door last time (review: https://yelp.to/EzuKZ9XM1a), so we wanted to try the Calipolis since they provide panoramic views of the Mediterranean. We reserved a Standard Double Twin room with a Terrace and Frontal Sea View for two nights. During the shoulder season, it goes for $185 per night, but I was able to apply my credit card points to cover the cost. The reasonably spacious room was up on the 4th floor and provided the glorious view we were hoping to secure. Otherwise it was a traditional holiday accommodation, well maintained but not quite at the luxury level of the MiM. Granted the rate was significantly lower here. There was a more bustling atmosphere at this hotel since they have two on-site restaurants and a swimming pool on the main level. MiM's mellow vibe was absent. The private terrace with the view is really the big draw here if you can reserve a room that has one. Otherwise both hotels are equally convenient when it comes to beach access and proximity to restaurants and night life in Sitges. RELATED - Exploring Sitges? If you request anything they say OK and it never gets sent to room(towels). Very noisy!!! all night in the halls and it's hard to sleep The hotel beds are very uncomfortable and towels and linens are old Housekeeping just walks in when the requested towels finally show up. Location is on the beach with a 10 min walk to the town up at the church.
