Yes, credit repair is legal and the credit repair industry is a heavily regulated industry and has been since 1996 with the passing of the Credit Repair Organizations Act. Sure there are a few bad apples out there as there are in every industry. The Credit Repair Organizations Act specifically prohibits companies from charging up front for the services. It is important that the services are provided first before payment is received. We know what you are thinking, is it ethical? If the person had the late payment on their credit, or the account was charged off, isn't it wrong to remove it from the bureau? Our answer is yes, and something that is accurate and verifiable cannot be removed from someone's account. However, have you ever made a mistake where someone is holding that mistake over your head for a period of time? Suppose that person, was not able to verify the fact that you made the mistake, is it right for them to continue to hold it over your head when they do not have the proof that the mistake was even made? Or perhaps they have the wrong information and they should not be publicizing the fact that a mistake was made. This is what credit repair is all about; making sure that everything on the report is 100% accurate and 100% verifiable, 100% of the time.
