UPDATE October 8, 2024: Had dinner again at La Lune last…read morenight. In the year since our last visit they haven't missed a beat. It is still terrific. I made a reservation mistake and thought that we would not be able to eat there but a stroke of luck had us down for an 8PM reservation the next night. Great little hole in the wall like Japanese restaurant with mostly Sushi bar seating. We had the edamame, chicken karaage, some incredible mushroom dish, the Coquilles, tuna tartar and YES the fabulous pork chop which we missed last year as per below. It was all wonderful and since we drove down from Strasbourg just to eat at La Lune our expectations were high. Terrific at every turn. The one thing I am angry with myself for is not getting the name of the wonderfully talented Japanese chef and the gent that runs the front of the house (with some help from a capable colleague this year). I really would like to recognize them by name but it will have to wait until next year. Very few restaurants are a total hit but La Lune is one of them. Cannot wait to return.

It is a Japanese restaurant, fairly casual, family run. We had the tasting menu. It was simple and tasty. As is typical with tasting menus the portions were small but in this case were awesome tasting. It varied from sushi to tempura to very tender Spanish beef. Nice selection! We paired with an excellent white wine selected with the help of the restaurant from their extensive wine collection. Price was comparable to what we could have gotten at retail in states. All topped off with some delicious green tea ice cream, best we've had. If we visit Beaune again we would definitely make this a stop and would try to get a seat at the counter in front of the chef!

I was surprised to find an upscale Japanese restaurant in the outskirts of Bern at such a random place. When I looked into the restaurant later, I found out that it was promoted on some Swiss television show ("Mini Beiz, dini Beiz") before explaining the owner and his history a bit. I have to say that the experience was enjoyable and the food of the day menu was excellent, and the staff very friendly. Pricey, though, which is fine with me if everything else meets the bill.

The setup is really nice - sit at the teppanyaki if there are seats available and watch your food being cooked. The portions are generous. The tuna was seared nicely and the sauce was delicious. The surf and turf came with shrimp which had an amazing butter sauce. And the filet was perfectly cooked to medium raw - so tender. Presentation of the food was also nicely done.

The decor of the restaurant had an Asian flair and an ambience that was very comfortable. The restaurant had a moving sushi bar with an array of choices and Teppanyaki U shape counter. Hattori opened 5 Months ago. To start we had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and Ahi Tuna Tataki with a Kirin Premium beer. The Tempura was light and crispy with a flavorful dipping sauce. The Tuna Tataki was seared to perfection with the right amount of seasoning and topped with daikon/sauce. The Steak was done medium rare with a variety of sautéed mushrooms including shiitake. It was plated with a nice delicate sauce with cubed gelatin flavored with shiitake mushroom dashi, mirin, shoyu and sake. Chef Alek served us his soft and tasty Homemade bread with a marinated broccoli spread. Executive Chef Alek's creations are so tasty. We ended the dinner with shot of Yamasaki Whiskey which won a world title as best in class and Sweet Umeshu. It was an excellent meal and we felt at home with the friendly staff and owner. I ordered a sample of appetizer since I can not have sushi for a while and have to admit that have been pretty satisfied with everything... the crab & asparagus soup was really good, the seaweed salad too. Edamame were not enough warm but still fresh... and the cantonese fried rice was pretty salty, but in line with the standard Swiss saltiness. Globally the food was good and the prices were ok.
