Been a member for years. Became a member SPECIFICALLY to use the Washington st Hoboken location due to the level 4 bed they have. Recently noticed they have a new bed in the room I used. Was told it was a new bed, works great. Not told ANYTHING else. I just noticed I get charged $6 every time I use this new bed. I called corporate and was told "oh, we upgraded the bed. It's now a level 5 and your package doesn't include that". I asked if there are other level 4 beds in that location, as any other locations are out of my way. I was told "we upgraded the bulbs so we consider our level 3 a level 4 now". So, my options are, drive out of my way for what MIGHT be a level 4 bed, ( because they say so) take a step DOWN in use but pay the same level 4 membership, OR pay more to use what I've been getting for free for years? GFY! Since I doubt they'll consider my $1 bill a $6 bill just because I say so, I'm cancelling my membership. They aren't really looking for my type there anyway now that they merged with Sunbar. They want the Buffy's and Kyles of the world. Economy isn't getting any better, not really a good time to try and scam someone out of money for what is essential a luxury purchase that anyone can do without. Good luck Planet Scum. read more

The front staff is wonderful at midtown Hoboken. However they can't justify the services that went away. They had my favorite thing the red light jiggle. As part of monthly payment since 2016 that service went away. Just disappointed, hopefully I can feel better with a versa in Portland Maine read more

I had probably one of the worst experiences in a long time. literally had to try to beg and negotiate for them to let me use their services.. The Rudeness and dismissive behavior of Gabby in the midtown tanning salon is just unacceptable. I asked to speak to the manager she said to call on Monday they don't work weekends. By the time I went to the other location she took it upon herself to call and resolve it in her own words and then I was told because of me they had to bother Jenn the manager. Do not come here for spray tans! I came here on Friday night for a spray tan. Kim was very nice and thorough. The area was clean and the tan was nice and even. Saturday morning I rinsed off and went to breakfast but I still felt like the solution was coming off of my skin. I rinsed again and felt better. Now, on Tuesday morning, I have the spottiest spray tan I have ever gotten in my life and the solution is STILL rubbing off on light fabric. I've had a lot of spray tans and have never had this problem. I will not be returning. read more

I've been a member for over 6 years. This is my 2nd time into this location two weeks since there name change. Very slow and inconsistent service. I filled out paper work for my service animals, never experienced this before. I'm not sure it's legal. I'm back today and now I'm told I can't take my service dogs with me. This is what I am referring to when I mentioned inconsistent service. Not to mention every single person has to go through this whole process to integrate them into a new system that is now being implemented and it's the second new name that they're giving the company in the last few months. Instead of calling people on the phone and asking them to update the information they're waiting for customers to come into the location and take up everyone's precious time to take every person's complete information down again and get a new credit card on file for them. It's honestly very unprofessional. Not to mention the girl that works the front counter. I'm sure it is Badmouthing me and my animals currently as I'm in the room changing to tan. I've been here about 10 times during the course of a year and haven't had a particularly great experience but it's never been terrible. I won't be coming back after today. Walked in and spoke with the rude front desk woman, she took my name down on a piece of paper and how much she was charging me (system must have been broken) but no ID check or offer for eye protection. I walk into the level 3 bed (room 9) and noticed no towel on the bed. Didn't think about it till I was undressed that it could be that the bed wasn't cleaned. I get in and start the timer. Notice the bed is kind of sticky... but I stay in for the 10 mins rather than go out and confront the staff. Couldn't turn off the country music radio that was playing. I have been tanning at Planet Sun about 7 times now. Living in Jersey City, there are no tanning salons so this one, in Hoboken is the closest. The two young girls at the front desk, I have found are the most helpful, and with their recommendations I do get great color. I once was told to go in for 5 minutes after going in 9 previously, in the same stand up level 2 because the girl at the desk said the bulbs had just been changed, and I got no color what so ever. Annoying when it's your money and they're wrong about the recommendations but life goes on. Wish they would open a Jersey City location. read more

Planet Sun is probably the best place for tanning beds in the Hoboken/Weehawken area. You can't beat the prices, the beds are always clean and I've never had a bad experience with the staff. Others are more educated than some, but overall I'm happy with my experience. One thing that caught me off guard was that when you sign up for the membership price for the three months, it needs to be a full three months. They prorate when you start, but then there is an additional three full months after that, NOT from the date you sign up. The girl who signed me up forgot to mention in, but the lady explained it to me the next time I was in. I rarely run into a wait, would recommend to anyone in the area! read more

Recently new to the area and this is the only tanning salon i could find. Spent nearly 150~ for a bed for a month. After all of this i has to ask for a towel and eye shades. I was informed that the 'winkies' would cost me an additional dollar. Are you kidding me? I am reaching out to the BBB because there is no way that you can charge for basic protection against UV and Cancer causing light. Stay away from here!!! There are much better places with MUCH better customer service. Their sales rep sold me on a 3 month membership, when in fact it was 6 months (because she knew I would t do it for 6 months since I made that clear). Unfortunately I still signed without reading, which was my mistake, but the amount of business I have given them should have warranted some sort of understanding and better customer service. The prices are high, the service is uninspiring, and I'd definitely recommend not getting tricked by their "promotions". In the NY/NJ area, it would be worth traveling further to not use Planet Sun. read more

I signed up for a 3 month commitment to Planet Sun Tanning. I was told that unless I cancel after the 3 months is up, they will continue to withdraw the monthly fee after the 3 months is up. I called to cancel my membership 1 month in advance to ensure that I wouldn't be charged for the 4th month, however, I was told that I would need to go to the location where I signed up in person to cancel. I did so, and was told that my membership was cancelled and I would not be charged going forward. When I asked for a receipt or email confirming the cancellation, I was told that it was not possible, nor necessary, for them to provide such documentation. 3 months later I see on my bank statement that I have been charged for the past 3 months after cancelling my membership. I called the store where I cancelled to inquire about the mistaken charges, and was referred to another phone number (201-840-6968) for the main office. I spoke with Dawn and explained my issue. She asked that I email her a screen shot of my bank statement with the mistaken charges so that she could send it to billing. I did so, and she called me back after speaking to the billing office. She explained that billing would "meet me halfway" and refund me for half of the amount of the mistaken charges. When I told her that that was unacceptable because I cancelled my membership and a company cannot just continue to charge my credit card without my consent, she said that I should have monitored my bank account more closely after cancelling the membership to make sure that they were no longer charging me. She said that if I had caught the charges and called the 1st month that I was mistakenly charged that they would probably give me the money back, but now being that I was charged for 3 months they will not refund the full amount. She proceeded to tell me that she monitors her credit card for every charge and that if I monitored mine more closely I would not be in this position. She then said that it would be best if I dispute this with my credit card company. Thanks, Dawn, but your personal banking advice as a tanning salon employee is irrelevant to the fact that your employer is stealing from customers. It is none of the company's business how customers monitor their bank accounts. It is the company's business to operate professionally and honestly. The 3 months of mistaken charges are not my credit card company's responsibility either. It is the Planet Sun's responsibility to right their wrong. A company cannot just make fraudulent charges on customers' credit cards and then place the blame on the customer. I have experienced the lowest level of professionalism with this company and its employees, and in return will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Since this is the only tanning place in Hoboken it'll do the job but the girls that work there are horrible. If they are at the front desk when you walk in and not on the phone in the back, they are so rude and don't even say hello. They also never offer towels and put the head rests on the bed upside down all the time. They make the experience miserable. The same girls also work at both locations so you can't even escape it. read more

The beds are great and I love the monthly unlimited tanning bed use deal but there is a member of staff that works during the week who is one of the rudest people I have ever met. I wouldn't even call it customer service, she makes you feel an inconvenience for using the service. If you are willing to feel like unwanted each time you go it is great otherwise! Staff sat and talked to each other and were very unattentive. Beds were weak and didn't appear to be on. I even got out to tell the staff and they didn't even adjust the time. Nor did they show me how they worked as a first time customer. read more

The Planet Sun on 5th & Washington is the BEST!!!! Went in on Sunday (4/17) morning, The Facility is super big and CLEAN! The beds are new and awesome and Both the girls working at the front Desk were super nice and knowledgeable about the beds. Cant wait to go back! read more
