I rarely give five stars so why does this little diamond in the rough deserve such a lofty rating? Start with the misleading name. You certainly wouldn't guess that "Planet Chicken" serves Peruvian style food. I'll assume it's one of those lost in translation situations but their specialty dish indeed is juicy flavorful rotisserie chicken. They serve many other wonderful dishes such as Ceviche de Pescado and I love the fried seafood platter with a great choice of sides.. All of the delicious generous portions are served on white tablecloths (not the usual windex swabbed glass table tops with the germy musty sponge that has become the standard at almost every restaurant cheap or fancy.) The prices are laughable for the quality and generous portions and the always smiling and helpful wait staff is a joy. If you don't live nearby this place it is definitely worth a trip for some delicious food dressed in some unique and tasty spices. There is actually hope for the restaurant industry in NJ as more and more of these ethnic restaurants share their wonderful cooking with us locals starving for something other than Italian or Chinese. read more

Planet Chicken is a good place to pick up a quick dinner or weekend meal. I suggest take out vs dining in as it seems the place is usually packed. There aren't a lot of choices for Latin American food so it's great to have this place in the area. I would say the chicken is good but the flavor is definitely in the green sauce. The maduros or fried plantains is a great side as is the fried cassava (yuca). I need to try some of the other dishes but I would rate this place 3.5 stars only because the last time I was overcharged for a meal and only realized it when I got home, so be sure to check your receipt after ordering and picking up your meal. It can be very busy and easy for anyone to make a mistake when adding up the bill. Overall, I recommend this place. read more

I've come here several times already and the roast chicken and yucca fries have always been on point. The spaghetti was also pretty tasty but the seafood fried rice was not. The flavor was all there but the squid was overcooked and rubbery beyond belief. Hopefully, that was just a one time thing. As for drinks, you need to try the chicha morada. Came here for Mother's Day dinner and I quickly learned it was a popular place that late afternoon. Had to wait about ten minutes for a table and passed the time watching the bustle wait staff and many take out orders pass by. Upon being seated, our drink order was taken while we perused the menus and observed the many patrons enjoying their food. We ordered the small appetizer servings of Fried Calamari and Garlic Shrimp which was plenty for three to share. For Dinner, my son choose the Seafood Cerviche which had various seafood and fish, he said it had a little too much lime on the bottom but he enjoyed it nonetheless. My husband had the seafood and rice which he liked and was more than a large serving which resulted in leftovers. I had my standby, Quartro Chicken, all white juicy meat paired withe the green sauce and a side of Fried Plaintains which also became part of the leftovers to take home. We finished by sharing the Coconut Caramel Flan. I should add that dirty dishes and silverware were quickly removed by the busboy. Both the waiter and busboy were assigned to several large tables and serving almost sixty people and doing it well. read more

chicken is great.. green hot sauce goes perfect with it....quality and quantity of other dishes have been decreasing slowly.. seafood fried rice is made with cheap frozen shrimp and squid... i wouldn't eat seafood dishes here.. there are other few places around to find great peruvian food with fresh ingredients... it looks like they have focused on the main seller( roasted whole chickens) nothing wrong with that, but this is a peruvian food join.. so judging by the quality of the birds.. i would expect the same from the other main courses....not quite true,i was really bumped out, plus i dont see the original owner there anymore, new management ?? not good read more

When here with my fiancé and some close friends on a Saturday night and , I have to tell you I was pleasantly surprised. When I first heard about the place that we were going to , the name planet chicken didn't really bring forth images of quality cuisine . But as we walked into the place the decor was simple and clean . The waitstaff was very attentive, polite, and helpful . They even let me sample a drink that they make over there which is fermented ( I forget what the ingredients are ) before I actually made the decision to purchase it. I'm a really big fan of Peruvian food, I've grown up eating it with many friends , and this place makes authentic, quality Peruvian food. The menu is not extremely large however what they do make is quite tasty, especially one of my favorite dishes Lomo Saltado. One thing however that I would like to perhaps critique is that papa a la huancaina was a bit on the bland side and wasn't really up to snuff. Other than that everything was pretty good. Considering the area that the restaurant is located in, I'd say that it's probably one of the better places to get authentic Peruvian cuisine. read more

My husband and I came here on a Friday, it was not too busy. I am Peruvian and was craving some home cooked meals and my husband enjoys a lot of Peruvian dishes as well. We decided to try a bit of everything here. We tried the pollo a la brasa, fried calamari, tallarin verde con bistec, and chaufa mixto. The calamari was delicious however the pollo didn't have the typical Peruvian flavor it actually reminded us of shoprite roasted chicken. The tallarin was also not authentic in flavor, I couldn't taste the spinach at all and the chaufa mixto was extremely salty. The bistec that came with the tallarin was cold. The green aji was delicious as well as the home made chicha. Overall it was and ok experience. Service here was great and so was pricing but the taste of the food is not authentic Peruvian seasons/flavors. read more

Chicken was good but not as good as Don Alex in Elizabeth/Union. The combo is not as good. The fries portion was too small for a whole chicken. The "avocado salad" has one tiny piece of avocado and dressing bland compared to other Peruvian places I've been. I didn't even think it was possible for some to actually make bad Papa a la huincaina, but Planet Chicken should take it off the menu because it was a poor excuse to pass off as Papa a la huincaina. This place is great. The first time I went with my husband and my daughter. We had passed this placed for the longest time but never went in. The food was sooooooo delicious. The staff is very nice and they don't rush you out. When waiter asked us if it was our first time there and he graciously gave us a gratis dessert (flan) which I'm usually not a big fan of but this one was delectible. I get off of work at 3 pm every Saturday and when my husband picks me up from work we head straight there. We always get the whole chicken, a side of yellow rice, red beans, sweet plaintains and a salad. Try it, I'm sure you won't be dissappointed. If I could give 10 stars I would ;o) read more

Love to bring new people here for dinner. No one can believe the great food and the wonderful service. Nothing is over spiced and the prices are very reasonable. The entire menu is available for takeout. No one in the area must cook on Sundays since I meet my neighbors picking up dinner. We recently moved literally around the corner so decided to check the place out. We walked in and we pointed to a seat. We sat for about 10 minutes and I had to ask for a menu. We were never greeted nor asked if we would like anything to drink. We were finally handed some menus and the waiter just walked away still never asking if we would like drinks. After about 20 minutes of being completely ignored we decided to get up and walk out. They did hold the door open as we left never asking what was wrong. I am not Peruvian and therefore cannot tell you whether this is good or traditional Peruvian food, but I can tell you that it is absolutely fantastic! I had my sweet 16 dinner of 20+ here and they were absolutely wonderful in taking care of so many. It was a hit with all of the friends and was remarked to be some of the best food they'd ever had. The wait staff was phenomenal, they were kind and let us know that ordering whole birds and having sides come out with them family style would be less expensive than having everyone order there own entree. In addition, they made sure to play "Happy Birthday" over the speakers and bring out a slice of flan as the entire restaurant sang. What a wonderful moment! Overall, we fed about 20 teenagers with unlimited soda refills and dessert for about $220, not including tip. You really can't beat that for the quality of food. They made sure to make my birthday one I would never forget, they will always have our business! read more
