I moved my parents closer to town and the chaos began. The crew was over an hour late. The moving guys were very nice and seemed to be very competent, however, they had personal items (given to them from and earlier move)on the truck that took up much needed space. The move went long - imagine that! And some furniture wasn't even delivered! The job was paid for and missing furniture was not a big deal to the company. A complaint just pushed the completion further as the third company to crate "specialty pieces" was told not to complete the job! Customer service is purely lip service. BEWARE! read more

Do Not Use Planes! We used Planes to move us across town...BIG MISTAKE!! In the move, we had numerous pieces of furniture scratched, eight glass items and/or heirlooms broken, and hardware for our dining room table lost. Although we purchased the maximum amount of insurance available in order to protect us in case of mishaps, they denied all our claims except the reparation of the scratched furniture. What a waste of our money that insurance policy was. When the furniture repairman came to our place, he told me that the hardware for our table couldn't be replaced because the table is no longer being manufactured. Although the claims adjuster directed him to find the replacement parts, once he determined that they were unavailable, Planes claimed it was our fault that the parts went missing, and they refused to give us any compensation for the missing hardware. To boot, they gave us absolutely nothing for all our broken items, even though we sent them pictures of the items and the boxes they were in. The writing on the boxes which I packed myself said: "Curio Cabinet Contents. Very Fragile!!" All the items were wrapped in moving paper, and the words on the box were written in black magic marker with two underlines under "very fragile." They mishandled our possessions in a BIG way. The crew jammed what was supposed to be a three-day move into two days, so that by the end of the second day, they were exhausted. My husband and I feel sure that their exhaustion led to the mishandling of our items. Worse than that, the Planes claims adjuster bore no responsibility at all for the botched job they performed. Our experience with Planes Moving & Storage, a partner of United Van Lines, has been terrible. Simply terrible. Unfortunately, we were fooled because Planes had a good salesman, but it went downhill from there. They broke our belongings and damaged our property, and Planes personnel throughout the move were indifferent and unprofessional. And although they ultimately paid for most - but not all - of what they cost us in repair and replacement, they did nothing to make up for the stress and anxiety of the whole experience. The movers were incredibly unprofessional, and customer service was so indifferent that I can only assume they were not at all shocked by our terrible experience. And believe or not, we chose Planes even though it was the most expensive bid for the move because we wanted a top-notch professional and stress-free move. This was definitely NOT that. The damage they did to our properties - at both ends - was significant. They took no care in packing our belongings. Movers were careless. Move coordinators were unresponsive. By the time it was over, I was having panic attacks. When we filed our claim, which was for several thousand dollars, they offered a "quick-claim settlement" of $500, which was just insulting after all this, or they said we could jump through lots more hoops to try for a figure closer to what our broken and damaged belongings actually cost. We've given up hoping for satisfaction, and now we are trying to put it behind us. Unless you are up for a roller coaster of pain, I suggest you steer clear of Planes. read more

I will NEVER CONSIDER Planes Moving and Storage Cincinnati again and neither should you. They are very practiced at covering up their mistakes and poor customer service. It seems to me that they plan to take advantage of you from the beginning because they employ a large staff focused on claims denial and writing responses to the Better Business Bureau to save their rating. I could write up all the details of my disgust and frustration, but it's really my fault. Don't do what I did, which was research reviews after the move. What I discovered was that most of the complaints are exactly like mine. My advice is to find a local Mom and Pop or family enterprise to do your move. These guys are terrific! We used them recently for a cross-country relocation (they are the local crew that Mayflower contracts with). Our place is in a condo building in the heart of downtown, so somewhat complicated to arrange logistically, but Roy and Bill handled it superbly. They've been in the moving business for decades, and their professionalism really showed. The crew was polite, friendly, respectful, and took great care of our stuff. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Late pick up, late delivery and treated terribly. No one called to inform us of the late pick up or delivery. Missing boxes, furniture was dirty and broken. Some boxes mysteriously were not even inventoried and were stolen. The drivers were nice but everything else was awful. read more

I paid 30% more to use Planes moving because i was told that they have full time employees to do the move. They are professional movers (mine were contractors). They take extra care with my stuff and will get it there safely. I had three items that were broken. A $2500 4k 65 inch tv that was dropped on a corner. It was supposed to be packed and unpacked by Planes. I had to force the worker to unpack it because he obviously knew that he broke it. Then they acted surprised when the TV was cracked. Also had a 2200 Marble table that was chipped and a outdoor Large umbrella stand that was also cracked. These guys are not what they say. You are better off paying less using a local mover. Not only are they not worth the money i paid, they are not worth hiring at all. Very disappointed. Oh yes, forgot, the Sales person who sold me this quit. Perfect! read more

I moved across the country and used Planes Moving & Storage which is an affiliate of United Van Lines. I purchased the insurance so that if anything were to happen to my stuff I would be covered. Planes Moving & Storage moved both my motorcycles and when they were loaded on the truck both motorcycles were in perfect condition. When the movers finally got out to Washington and unloaded the motorcycles my motorcycles one had been damaged. I am being told that Planes Moving & Storage will not be doing anything to pay for the damages to the motorcycle. This is ridiculous and very unprofessional. As a customer I would expect that if I pay for insurance to cover my items while being moved that if something were to be damaged that it would be covered by the insurance that I purchased. I am not asking that the motorcycle be replaced or anything crazy. All I'm asking for is that the damage be fixed. If you or anyone you know is moving and looking for a moving company please tell them to STAY AWAY!! They will sell you insurance but if you actually have to use it they don't want to work with you anymore. Beware this is a very unprofessional company who loses boxes and damages motorcycles and then act like they did nothing wrong!! read more

I was a little surprised to see all of the negative reviews. We recently moved from Chicago to the Cincinnati area. I would have given a five star review but we weren't that impressed with the movers in Chicago (not Planes employees). They were a little slow and negative. However, we were very impressed with the transportation of our items and the pricing. The mover team in Ohio (Henry, Justin and Zach) were amazing! There were items we were pretty sure wouldn't make it into the basement due to size and they safely got the items down there much to our amazement. They were friendly, courteous and had a positive attitude the entire time. I also really liked that they covered our wood floors and carpet with boxes to protect those areas during the move. We didn't have any damage issues and everything was reassembled to our liking. We were nervous about movers since we had such a great previous company but all-in-all Planes did a really nice job. Outside of moving crew being nice, totally awful experience. Several items damaged as well as the property. I submitted the damage claim right away, but it took awhile for their adjuster to come out. Never heard back from Planes or the adjuster and had to constantly ask for updates. Finally heard they were going to send us a cash settlement for a few things. That amount was a fraction of what adjuster said was cost to repair. Then they declined other items claiming pre-existing damage even though we had proof otherwise. After that, they changed story and said decline was because damage wasn't reported within 24 hours, even though the instructions they give you says 30 days to report and file claim. Did I mention I even purchased the extra insurance! It's not worth the time or money to get an attorney, so guess I'll chalk this up as a lesson learned. Still waiting on the little payment they promised as reimbursement. Doubt I'll ever see that. On a positive note, several items that were lost in the move were found and returned personally by the moving crew. I guess it's just the management at Planes who is unethical and incompetent. Read the online reviews, or find someone more trustworthy from Angie's list. Planes is not a company you can trust. read more

Our experience was a nightmare. After our house was sold, we had to have our furniture and household items moved and stored for several months until we purchased our new home. When our furniture arrived there were many things that were broken, damaged and missing. There were items that were never delivered, some being family keepsakes which can never be replaced. At the end of the delivery day we were presented with the list of all the items that were originally packed for us and asked to sign them. This signature was to confirm the receipt of all of our items. When I questioned the supervisor about how I can make sure if all were delivered, he (Drew) said that if you want to go over every item we will never get out of here so just sign them. According to Jim Baughman, an executive of Planes, the movers should have presented the list to us so each box could have been checked off when carried/moved inside the house. This choice was never given to us. So we never had a clue what was missing until months after the items were packed and delivered to our house. After, over a $13,000 moving bill, and a mere less than $700 replacement for lost and damaged items, I am appalled. Their customer service was slow in responding to our inquiries. Our numerous calls were not answered in a timely matter and eventually rudely treated. I would strongly suggest to considering another company for any moving and storing needs. read more

Used Planes to move us from small-town Ohio to Champaign IL and had a great experience. Had entire house packed one day by two professionals, and the next day 3 men loaded the truck. Jason was the driver and he was very professional. Nothing broke, etc. I highly recommend them. read more

Awful customer service. Planes Moving was relocating a neighbor to my neighborhood. My house is on a cul-de-sac and the moving van rolled over the circle damaging the rock, moving a 400 lb. bolder and damaging the weed barrier. Then they never attempted to avoid my landscaping and rolled over my rock wall, crushing it and over the landscaping. It was witnessed by a neighbor who went to the person being moved who immediately reported it to the company. Needless to say Plans totally denied any liability. So I am now taking them to court for $1,200.00 in damages. read more

This moving company moved my personal property from WI to OH. They lost 32 boxes and an 18' extension ladder which I never got back. I had to file a claim for over $24,000 and they paid only a fraction of that amount, denying almost all responsibility. The crew that delivered the personal property destroyed the house leaving chunks out of the molding and tearing up a hardwood floor as they dragged a BBQ grill through the house instead of around the house to the back yard. I documented the damage and had a Planes employee come back a few days later to take pictures of the damage. When I confronted them about the damage they suddenly had amnesia about taking the pictures of the damage and all documentation I provided them was missing. As expected they denied all home damage reported stating I did not documented the damage. Their insurance company also denied responsibility. They lost or destroyed the documentation. They are an unethical and deceitful company and they should be investigated for fraud. They think the little guy has no chance against them but the company I work for has stopped doing business with them due to their tactics. Do not use this company for your moving needs. read more

Had a recent move by Planes which was a local move and quite costly. They did a decent job of packing boxes with a few things damaged. The crew was very nice. Almost all my furniture was removed from the house without a cover or wrap. I assumed they were doing that in the truck since I heard they were a good moving company. I was wrong. About half my furniture was damaged beyond scratches. I actually cried when I looked over all the furniture and saw the damage that would not have occured had they been covered. Claims department was terrible. A few minor repairs were made but never heard anything back. Weeks later they said they weren't paying for anything that was damaged. I had the insurance but that only covers repairs if the movers did nothing wrong in packing or covering/protecting the furniture. I always took great care of my furniture and wish I had never moved because of the damage I am left with. As the other reviewer said DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO AVOID PLANES. My friends moved recently with 2 men and a truck and had no damage. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. We will never recommend them to anyone and are leaving this review in the hopes of preventing others from having to go through what we did in our move. The employees who packed up our things seemed friendly and seemed to know what they were doing. We trusted that they would be professional and get the job done right. When our things arrived at our new location most of our big furniture was scratched, dented, or had water damage. Turns out some of our furniture wasn't even covered or wrapped properly. They used our dining room table to stack other things on. Our $1500 Mac desktop computer screen was shattered because they packaged it by simply putting it in a cardboard box with a few pieces of packaging paper around it. Canvas pictures were dented, picture frames were broken, things were smashed, and our kitchen aid blender never showed up.
