Real maple syrup you guys!!!!! I ordered the French toast for delivery and boy was it good. I've been on a French toast kick these last weeks and have ordered it from 3 or 4 places before but this was the first time I got actual maple syrup with it. I almost cried y'all. And the toast itself was delicious, I devoured the whole thing in less than 10min. The toast is firm with a soft center, it stuffed with cottage cheese and maybe something else like a pudding or something (or maybe it's just a soft interior). It paired really well with the fruit and was not overly sweet, which is always my fear with American breakfast, even with the maples syrup. Highly recommend! read more

This is a review during COJust finish my meal here and there's some issue that need to be brought up. Staffs are not wearing mask at all time! We ordered coffee and when our server is making our drinks, there's a male staff wearing the mask on his chin and keep chatting with our server, facing the espresso machine. On my way to wash my hands, I peek into the kitchen and several staffs are all wearing the mask on the chin. My party felt extremely uncomfortable during our meal in there. This is such a difficult time for everyone and I sincerely hope a business establishment like Plain Jane be concern of the safety of your customers! On to the food, we ordered: Norwegian Benedict Chicken waffle Food was mediocre, not very outstanding. The chipotle sauce for the chicken waffle was very yummy but chicken was dry. The side potato for the Benedict was DARK like coals. Summary: if you are looking for a safe dinning place, find elsewhere. If you are looking for a new brunch place to try in the sf brunch battleground, if you are feeling adventurous, you could come try! But my friend and I will probably not gonna come here again. Sunday early afternoons means brunch so we ended up here. After waiting for 45 minutes and even checking in with the waitress to remind her we were on the list that she had folded up and put away into oblivion, they still forgot about us and other tables were seated before us. Apparently after seeing us on the folded list, they folded it back up and put it out of their minds. We did get seated right after we checked in at least. Then came the ordering. We were eager to try all of their foods. Between 3 people, we ordered the sweet flight, sirloin steak Benedict, dungess crab Benedict, and orzo salad. When I asked if I could have a side of fruit with my orzo salad, they rudely cut me down and offered me a side of fruit. I said yes without the bread, which was my original request anyway, and they said it was fine. No, I'm not stupid. I know that I'd have to pay extra for a side of fruit but thanks for not even trying to be a good waiter or communicating with the patron and doing it harshly. Then when the food came, I didn't get the bread or the side of fruit. Good job. Everything came out looking beautiful though. Once we dug in, we were surprised to find that there was no flavor to anything even with salt and hot sauce. Everything was disappointing in every possible way. The only thing that remotely stood out was the French toast as it did not suck the most, but none of us thought it was even good. The rest of the sweet flight was really just flavorless and one of the pancakes was burnt! So good job on not sucking the most, French toast! So in the end, the service sucked (didn't even check in during the meal) the food sucked, and the experience sucked. That's the most effort I can put to describe my experience here and it was more effort spent than what they used to provide a good dining experience. Honestly, maybe there was something wrong with our entire meal, but in the end, I can't understand why this place is so popular or why it has a long wait at all. Brunch in SF can do no wrong; the plates are beautiful and also very filling! The ricotta pancakes were very light and fluffy. They weren't too heavy either, the cakes didn't come off as too dense but nice not-too-sweet bites. The Monte Cristo sandwiches are a must-get. It's the perfect argument as to how cheese can also pair well with a sweet-side dish. The portions can verge a little small for the price but it's a rich bite that will satisfy. Props to the crispy potatoes! Breakfast potatoes browned and fried to perfection, how most should be. The smoked duck breast was on the more forgettable side, but still pretty good. The plate is still loaded with eggs, vegetables, potatoes, and toast to accompany the well-portioned meat. It's not the best of SF brunch (because that's pretty hard to achieve), but it's an honorable mention. You won't be disappointed by your visit, just don't wait too long in line for this place. read more

This review is long overdue. This is my 4th order via delivery since the pandemic. The food is consistently delicious, great quality, and fresh. I usually order Chorizo Scramble and Pain De Mie custard french toasts. But today I ordered cottage cheese pancakes along with the chorizo. The pancakes are fluffy with all the fixings and of course the chorizo is so tasty with good portions. I'm looking forward to visiting the restaurant soon for outdoor dining. Uh, yum. Why does SF always come out with hit brunch places? I got the Pistachio Latte and it was delicious. Rich coffee flavor with just the right amount of pistachio, without tasting fake. Then my main dish was the Shrimp, Sausage, and Grits. Everything about this was good but most importantly, the shrimp tasted somewhat fresh and was cooked to the right temperature. When we first walked in, I thought this had to be a sister restaurant of Kitchen Story (there are several siblings in that family already) because of the perfect combo of a creative menu, lightning fast service, and focus on presentation in the dishes. Who cares, just go there and try the food, it's amazing. My wife had the bacon and grilled shrimp salad and it was incredibly good (I tried more than a bit of it..), I had the avocado and bacon cheeseburger and it was super solid. Our daughter was in heaven (and brief sugar frenzy) after sampling the pancake and french toast flight. We waited to be seated behind 20 people or so but it went fast, maybe 20 mins and food came out quickly after we were seated. Mid week brunching is the best brunching, especially when you find a new restaurant that has such great selections. Plain Jane is one of those new restaurants with a cute as can be interior and a menu that will draw those who enjoy brunch like it's going out of style. I saw some photos from fellow yelpers with the monte cristo and pancakes and had to head down here on my random midweek day off. Even though I arrived with the plan to order the monte cristo, I got side tracked when I saw the lobster scramble and the sweet flight - red velvet pancake, fluffy cottage pancake and pain de mie french toast - and had to negotiate with my dining crew who was going to order what. This place definitely delivers some wonderful carbs and over the top egg dishes. I couldn't believe how much lobster was on top of my scrambled eggs, and the monte cristo was served with a fig jam, the best jam in the world in my opinion! We shared the sweet flight, but I would have been happy ordering one of those all to myself. I know, I'm such a carb whore. Make sure to make time to visit Plain Jane. Opened between 8am to 2:30pm every day, they have posted a menu on their store front if you want to take a look before you enter. Right when you enter, you face their first space which is comprise of a bar table of seats and also two round tables. They also have roughly 20 tables on the other room. Their breakfast menu has a good selection ranging from pancakes, Eggs Benedict, House Specials, Salads, Burgers and Rolls. We decided to go with the PJ's Sweet Flight ($17), which is comprised of a red velvet pancake, a cottage cheese pancake and a french toast - if you ask me, is a fabulous combination, and one of the specialties of Plain Jane. We also got the Smoked Duck Breast with Quince Hash ($17). This had a fabulous combination comprised of 3 pieces of Smoked Duck Breast, delicious and extremely crispy home fries, really soft and well seasoned vegetables, an over-easy egg and some yummy toast. Came with a friend on a Saturday around 1pm and waited for about half an hour. There's a decent amount of seating since they have two rooms. I got the Parma ham Benedict which was so delicious. Portions are pretty big, I couldn't even really start on my potatoes by the time I finished the eggs and ham and grilled tomato. Really interesting menu selection! I discovered this gem while on my way to volunteer at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. So glad I used Yelp to find this place. The high ratings attracted the me and the hubby and the great food keeps us coming back even though we live an hour away. I highly recommend the Flatiron and Eggs Benedict, pure deliciousness!!! Food presentation is outstanding and freshest ingredients are always used. One thing that really stood out to my hubby and I was how clean and organized the place was. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. Plain Jane's decor was a throwback to the Norman Rockwell era with paintings dotting the high walls. It's worth the drive! I had the crab Benedict and let me tell you, the potatoes that came with it were THE BEST I ever had. Like, I seriously thought about my next visit while I was still there. I was looking for a new brunch place to try with a friend who I was meeting to catch up and discovered this one. We went on a weekend at prime brunch time so there were lots of people on the waiting list, but they were very efficient and there was a fast turnaround of tables so as we were deliberating what to order, it was finally our turn! We decided we wanted to try as many things as possible and ordered three dishes, all of which were delicious and unique in their way. I am excited to go back and try all the other dishes! Food: - Coconut & Brown Rice Flour Pancake--$9 One bite and I was amazed at how soft and fluffy this pancake was. The tender texture was a delight to eat with the creamy pad of butter and crunchy coconut flakes sprinkled on top. I liked how the brown rice flour used gave the pancake a subtle sweetness, so the sweetness from the grilled banana and maple syrup on the side gave it the perfect flavors. - PJ's Monte Cristo Sando--$17 Sweet and savory flavor combinations are my favorite and this one was no exception. The turkey and gouda sandwiched between French toasted pain de mie was a melted cheesy savory goodness and delicious all on its own. I liked how the use of French toast for the sandwich gave it a soft, tender texture. When each piece was dipped in the sweet and tart fig jam, the explosion of flavor contrast was amazing. Things couldn't get any better except when I tried the crispy potatoes that this dish comes with on the side. My friend and I were seated pretty quickly, but the server barely even looked at us, even when we were ordering! This brunch spot is far from plain, with the extensive menu of delicious options. I came in on a Friday with two friends and we were seated right away. It took awhile for me to decide what I wanted and had to narrow it down to a few options. I really wanted to try the smoked duck breast with quince sauce hash, however they were out of the quince sauce and I felt that it wouldn't have tasted the same without it since it's one of the main ingredients of the dish. I instead got the flatiron steak and eggs benedict. I think it sounded a lot better than it tasted - there was too much going on with the asparagus and prosciutto, chimichurri sauce, sauteed spinach and grilled corn. I must've had hungry eyes, but the drenched the bread and was way too soggy to eat and the steak was pretty tough. Would pass on this one next time to try something else. My friends tried the sausage shrimp and grits and the monte cristo sando - this could have been a little bigger as the pieces seemed bite sized (compared to serving size at Mama's). I also got the pistachio latte, which was just ok - I couldn't really taste the pistachio as much as I would've liked. Lastly, as the center piece we got the PJ Sweet Flight, which came with 1 red velvet pancake, 1 fluffy cottage pancake and 1 pan de mie custard french toast with whipped butter. I couldn't tell which one tasted best as they were all yummy. So if you're like me and can never choose between sweet and savory during brunch, get both! The menu was pretty interesting, with some good options from traditional brunch food with a twist (like oyster mushroom scramble, to lobster scramble) to Lobster rolls. I ordered the deep fried cod and chard egg Benedict. It was unusual and good except they use bread instead of the more standard English muffin and I didn't like the taste of the bread (possibly the grease from the cod). We also ordered the red velvet chocolate chip and cheese pancake, which was good, and the cannoli. Would be good to go back and try more of the menu. read more

This place is beyond amazing. We got the pancake "flight" (pictured) and the steak and eggs Benedict. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, and each was paired perfectly with complex and yet complimentary flavors. Everything tasted extremely fresh, and while the items we ordered were definitely more on the "indulgent" side they didn't taste heavy or too rich. Amazing brunch place! A bit of a wait because they don't take reservations. We had the carafe of grapefruit mimosas, the trio of red velvet pancakes, cottage pancakes, and French toast as well as the duck hash and then chi seed pudding. Everything was very good and came out quickly. Loved the breakfast potatoes!! Large portion sizes and big menu, there was so many things I'm hoping to try. Was surprised by the rating compared to the reality - service was fine but food was beyond underwhelming and doesn't compare favorably to some of the diners in the area. The chicken is so DRY to the point it is stringy, the pink velvet waffle was not fluffy with mediocre guacamole and cold bacon. They do big portions and I think this is more of a scene spot as they have some colorful food (pink velvet waffle, purple ube latte) and a number of tables so probably easy to get seated. I wouldn't recommend if you are there for the food especially given the other choices close by. read more

My fiance and I came on a Sat morning, at 10am, preparing for the worst wait ever. We found parking up the street pretty easily, and walked in, and put our names down - we were the next ones to be seated! After about 10 mins we were seated at the bar. They have a bunch of items to choose from, including scrambles, pancakes, french toast, egg Benedicts, etc. I ordered the Chorizo Scramble, which was so tasty. I liked the oils of the chorizo and cheese, mixed in with the eggs. I also loved the avocado on top - wish they put more though! My fiance ordered the Lobster Scramble, which was great. They also put a lot of lobster, so yes it was more on the expensive side ($24), but it seemed worth what you were paying. We also split 1 pancake, the coconut flour pancake. It had a very light texture, which was interesting and well executed, but not something I would ever order again. I really just wanted a simple pancake, either with bananas, blueberries, or plain. Is that really so much to ask for?! The other choices of pancakes were strange, like Red Velvet, and Cottage cheese. The potatoes, btw, were very crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. Similar to Plow's in case you wanted a comparison. Food took a little long to come, but they brought out all 3 dishes at the same time. Otherwise service was excellent. read more
