I almost left feeling worse about my yoga practice than when I came in! They did have a decent 3-day deal and the location was central, just next to the Cathedral.

Dude, this place sucks. First, the fact that it's *the only* place in Strasbourg offering…read moreAnglo-Saxon-style 7/7 day classes is bad enough, though that's in itself a positive. But the teaching and customer experience remains resolutely and depressingly French. The teaching is top-down, heavy-handed, and rigid: teachers stand at the top of the class and call out to people; they don't move around, they don't perform adjustments, they don't talk to people individually and one-on-one... Given the prices (very high), it is just not value for money. It feels like primary school: one teacher will comment on people aloud, as in "that's a little better than before but still not right" and "so and so isn't able to hold that pose and should use a blanket for support." It found this SO shocking that I suggested to her that people might want to be corrected one-on-one and she immediately became rude, aggressive, and defensive. It was thoroughly depressing to see how unresponsive she was to feedback, but also totally in line with the spirit of the place. Seriously, it's like a 1970s classroom - totally heavy-handed, one-directional teaching without any attempt to create a nice atmosphere or rapport with people in the room, nor adapt to their needs (or suggest they should adapt poses to their own needs, more importantly!!). Classes are also badly lacking in creativity. I've followed classes in multiple cities and studios, and these are just the basic poses over and over. It's just... barren as an experience. Think school gym class rather than a place for people to learn, grow, and flourish. The fact that they are so embedded in their style as to not see it is more depressing still. Just don't. Ambiance cours de gym de collège, profs pas pédagos pour un sou, pas approachable, pas chaleureux... et des cours à 30 personnes en plus pour maximiser les revenus. A fuir.

It's hard not to like the wide open space that is the Place Broglie in Strasbourg. The light rail…read morepasses right through it, and if you happen to be there at Christmastime, you undoubtedly meandered through part of the Christmas market in this location. My first visit there was actually when I was on a mission. I have some photographs of old family members from the area that were taken at a photography studio on the Place Broglie. After finding the place and doing some digging, I learned that the current Banque de France was built in the 1920s on the site of several old mansions, including the one housing the studio. In a way I was sad that the building was no longer there, but I also loved learning about the evolution that makes up Strasbourg's history. And speaking of history, check out the plaque at the Banque de France! At that point you're standing in the location where France's national anthem "La Marseillaise" was performed for the first time! Close your eyes and you can almost picture the crowds dressed in late 18th-Century attire listening to the rousing melody (if you think you don't know it, you're wrong, it features prominently in other songs and movies, including the opening strains to the Beatles "All You Need is Love"). Make sure that your stop in Strasbourg includes a stroll through the Place Broglie ans appreciate a place that's truly living history!
