A bit of a splurge but worth it when in Madrid and in the mood for a steak. Located a few blocks…read moreeast of Puerta del Sol, it's nice because there are no hordes of people you have to navigate to find it. This is a place for people who appreciate their food and the experience, not for the tourist masses that are looking to get fed quick and cheap. It is an interesting set up as they have dining rooms on both sides of the street. I was in the one on the east side of the street and taken downstairs into the basement which has the looks of a refurbished ancient cellar. I had a 2 top in the corner to myself with a great view of the room so I could appreciate what everyone else was eating. I had a very civilized time. Frenetic Tapas this is not. There are white linen tablecloths present, a small container of housemade chimichurri, menus on line, great wi-fi service, a full bar and wine list, and menus that are bovine centric. I had an Argentine Negroni (the Argentine nod is due to a splash of Fernet Branca giving it a slight minty taste on the back end) and a glass of affordable, high ranking Tempranillo. These were perfect with the olive and bread starters with EVOO/Spanish vinegar on the table to mix to taste and also served with compounded butter. I was there to eat and the Mollejas (veal sweetbreads) are a must in my opinion. They are listed as a house specialty and come on a charcoal heated sizzle plate served with a side of broad flaked sea salt to finish to taste. Crispy edges and creamy textures throughout with a hit of grilled lemon and they were simply sublime. I also took down an Entraña (skirt steak) that seemed larger than its described 300 grams. Also served on a sizzle plate it was perfectly cooked by some expert grill guys upstairs. To ensure that I ate something with color, I had a salad on the side that I dressed to taste with the EVOO/Spanish vinegar on the table. The service here is friendly, professional, and not overbearing. My meal was about $85 USD which is pricey by typical Madrid eating standards but it was worth it considering the quality, quantity, and variety of what I experienced. I would be happy to go back here again any time I'm in the area!

I had flap steak with fries and leek confit- beautifully prepared and the steak was the best steak I've ever had in my life- cooked medium rare to perfection. For dessert the Argentinian caramel ice cream and sabayon ice cream I was solo so I went wine by the glass and so reasonable and phenomenal selection The bottle selection equally good and again reasonable price Service was perfect- attentive without being overbearing Go here if you like great steak!

Para dos personas te incluye la mesa buffet, carne (all you can eat) no top of the line, una botella de vino, dos empanadas, café y postre para dos personas por un poco menos de 70 euros en fin de semana pienso que es OK. Ahhh.... Pero el flan espectacular lo que quizás le falte en carne les sobra en el flan. Muy bueno!!!!!!!

On our 2nd to last night on Madrid, we found ourselves at the Knife. Why did we wait so long???…read more Everything about the place was wonderful. We arrived early (8:30) and had the place mostly to ourselves. The cold bar is delicious, with lots of choices of salads, fruits, olives, all kinds of good stuff. But don't fill up there (unless you're a vegetarian) because MEAT is the word here! (OK, actually, it's carne, but you get the idea.) Everything we had from the chefs was delicious. Black sausage, Argentinian sausage, steak, chicken wrapped in bacon, even the grilled veggies were amazing. The prix fix is very reasonable. My only complaint was that we didn't know we could order tinto verano instead of bottled wine. That would have been better (the wine was good, but it was hot, and we could have used something lighter.) But I won't take points for that. All told, the Knife was perfect! 5 smokey grilled stars!

It was late one evening during my trip to Spain and I was tired. Tired from walking around all day…read moreand very tired of seeing all the same tapas at every single restaurant I went to. That's when I enlisted the help of this nifty website called Yelp and looked for the best places to eat in Madrid. After perusing the list of the top spots for a while, Casa Federica stood out to me because of its unique menu offerings. I wanted something different, and here this place was, waving its hands in the air, saying: "Bring me, your tired, your tapas frustration!" So I headed over and boy, was I pleased. My sister and I sat inside this cute little place and were helped by one of the friendliest guys who didn't mind explaining the menu to us or making suggestions on what to eat. We started with the spinach buñuelos and ordered the chicken with a gravy sauce as well as a pumpkin and cheese empanada. The buñuelos were honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten. They were very lightly fried but the spinach mix was amazing and so unique that it's hard to describe it. They didn't taste like gross spinach, but they were delicious and soft. The empanada was also a hit. Even though the menu says "pumpkin and cheese," the empanada was more pumpkin than cheese which was nice because I really love pumpkin. The bread wasn't too doughy and it was a good size to split between me and my sister. The chicken dish, which we ordered as our main meal, was amazing. Now, Spain is full of jamón so finding chicken anywhere is a daunting task, and finding chicken that's actually good is even more difficult. However, the chicken at Casa Federica was amazing. The gravy-like sauce on top of it was perfect and not too salty but just savory enough to satisfy. The combination of friendly service, ambiance and food gives this place five stars. It was a welcome reprieve from the standard Spanish fare and an experience I enjoyed a lot.

Actually, we arrived pretty late so it was the only restaurant that was open. Location: Madrid, Spain. That's all I know. Lol. Service: I do have to say that the service was exceptionally accommodating. Being that this was the first restaurant we ate at in Spain, Chacabuco II literally set the standard for the rest of our dining experiences throughout. This place did not disappoint. When we got there, the host quickly realized we were American and found us an English speaking waitress. That in itself is one star. We were seated in a corner tucked away from everyone surrounded by only a few couples. Two stars for making things romantic! I ordered some cava expecting a glass for the price listed, and I got a whole bottle. Three stars! We felt very well served and this made the experience that much better. Food: The food! So good! So fresh. I ate this huge steak which was bigger than my head (and I have a huge head, lol). My wife had an octopus dish which was tender and delicious. I pretty much loaded up on cava so the rest of the night was a blur, but I do remember the food, and it was GOOD! Final Thoughts: Because this was the first restaurant I've ever been to in Spain, I am a bit bias. However, because of great service and wonderful, even if it was the 80th restaurant I visited, it would have stood out from the rest. If I am ever back in this area of Madrid, I would definitely make it a point to visit.

They recognized us as english speaking early on and brought a full translated menu. 2 appetizers, 5 entrees, 2 desserts, 5 beers and a bottle of wine = 156 Euros!! Wonderfully appointed with presentation that made you gasp. Kids (21, 19, 17) said best meal they have ever had. Ranked high for mom n dad as well. If your up for the extra drive, well worth it!!
