He went over to check out what beers they had on tap when an ignorant man seated at the bar came up from behind, aggressively grabbed his arm and pointed back, shouting at him to get to the other end of the bar. My Dad wasn't even blocking the TV... and this happened within less than a minute of us arriving, all in front of the bar staff who did nothing to intervene or tell off this obnoxious customer. We told the staff it's too unfriendly here for us and went to leave and the man shouted "goodbye!" at us with a shit eating grin on his face as we left. What a horrible man and equally terrible staff to not say or do anything about him! Glad this place didn't see a cent of our money, will never come back!

Ein Ristorante soll es sein und so weihen sie "Pizza da Carlo" in der Kurgartenstraße ein. Diese Entscheidung zeigt der Battaggias gastronomisches Geschick, denn heute blicken sie auf 41 Jahre Familienbetrieb zurück. So trust me when I say that visitng Piazza Romana in Bad Durkheim has, for me, filled the void that every human soul possesses. A wonderful restaurant, with a comforting atmosphere and salt-of-the-earth decor. The wait staff was friendly and welcoming, and doted on me and my friends like a mother bird regurgitates worms for her young! (I mean that in the best way possible!) But the Pizza.....it was honestly the finest pizza I have yet had in my life. They boast two pages worth of pizza variety, from your typical pepperoni to a lobster and shellfish topped! I had the spinach, beef, and parmesean; my friend Lewis had the Ham and Pepperoni. I have never eaten such delicious and fresh-tasting pizza. The ingredients were superb, and you could tell that the pizza was fresh out of the oven. Also offered are a wide variety of side dishes, which all looked equally delicious. Coupled with a sizable menu of beer and wine, this place had the works. Truer words will never be spoken than these: I love Piazza Romana, and you will too after you eat here. Praise be to Zeus!

I searched for vegan friendly food and Pizzeria Caravella popped up, had good reviews, and in several places it was mentioned they served options for vegans! My mother and myself hopped on the streetcar and made our way to the restaurant around 9 pm on Sunday evening. We were one of two other tables, all dining outside on the warm summer night. We were seen to right away, lighting a candle for our table, getting our drink orders, and making us feel quite at ease after a long day of travel. The prices were incredibly reasonable (best prices for dinner we found during our entire stay in Mannheim/Heidelberg). There were SO MANY vegan options, and they were well labeled so even my non-German speaking self could identify what I wanted. They modified my order at my request to add basil to my vegan cheese pizza, and my mom ordered gnocchi bolognese. Our food came out quickly, and as the server set down my pizza she told me "he (the chef) told me to tell you this is the best pizza in Mannheim". And he was not kidding! This was the best vegan pizza I have ever had, and I have had vegan pizza all over California, in Los Angeles, in San Francisco, and in Portland and New York. All of these places are known for their vegan food but this pizza was the best. The basil looked like it had just been picked, the cheese was better than any vegan cheese for pizza I've had in the US, and the crust was thin and crispy but soft. My mom adored her gnocchi and though very full we were both sad when our meals were gone. The server and chef were incredibly kind the entire time and made us feel right at home and well taken care of. As I return to the US I will now fondly dream of a pizza far far away in Mannheim...
