We started walking around the area and stumbled upon the Las Cortes Madrid location of La Mafia. This restaurant found us at a point in our trip where we were all craving Italian food. We were seated promptly, had great service and a wonderful meal. The place is super cute and inviting and really made you feel like you were in Italy. I am writing this review almost 2 months after the fact, so I do not recall exactly what everyone ordered but I know that I had the meat raviolis and they were FANTASTIC! My husband and our friends ordered a few things and rotated plates so that they could all share and try everything together. Fast forward to our last night on this trip, we had wonderful cocktails at a nearby rooftop bar and found that we were all starving, so we decided to go back to La Mafia on our walk to the hotel, there were 8 of us this time and again, everyone raved about the food, service and ambiance. I didn't realize this was a chain of restaurants until trying to leave this review. It appears that only one location in Madrid has a yelp page--so I am speaking to the location on Pl. de las Cortes, just a short walk from the Prado Museum! Highly recommend!

The terrace is always full of people, so I decided to sit inside. It was hot, and the main waitress asked if I wanted the AC, so of course I said yes please and waited for them to come take my order. It took about ten minutes for someone to notice I'd put the menu down, but finally a waitress came over. I ordered a glass of wine and the "tropical" pizza and again asked for the AC, since they had offered to put it on for me. They brought the wine promptly, and it was a fair sized glass for €2. About twenty minutes later my pizza come, and the AC still hadn't been turned on. The pizza was good, a nice thin crust and fair amount of toppings. The sauce had basil in it so you got a nice flavor under the cheese and toppings. I ate about half my pizza and they boxed the rest up for leftovers and brought me my bill of €11.50. It was a fairly priced restaurant, with good food for the price! My only drawbacks would be the staff spoke about me in the kitchen thinking I couldn't hear them, they were a bit slow with service, and I never got the AC turned on. All small complaints really, I would go back again if I wanted a cheap meal close to home!

It was cooked perfectly. The dipping oil that they bring with it is a must try. It just gives it that extra special flavor. We followed that with each ordering a pasta dish. Just an FYI....one pasta dish is enough for two people. That is if you can agree on the same pasta dish. We didn't know the proportions before we ordered, but we were happy to take our leftovers home. I ordered the Rigatone with Mandorlata (creamy mushroom and almond sauce). Can I just say WOW? The flavors melted so perfectly together and had a little sweet flavor (from the almond sauce) and I just couldn't get enough of it. My friend, Don ordered the Campanelle with Tartufo al parmigiano (cream sauce with black truffles, parmigiano reggiano and fried egg). The black truffles were not over powering like some restaurants use them. He describes it as a rich taste, perfect pasta and well balanced. We ended our meal with Don having the cappuccino and I had the lemon sorbet. Put it on your list if you are looking for some Italian.
