What I like about this particular store, is that I almost never have to wait...the staff is super-efficient and yet still friendly at the same time. The only thing that bugs me is that while the same staff has been serving me for the past few weeks every morning, I don't see any sign of recognition on their faces. In fact, I sometimes feel like in the movie "Groundhog Day" where Bill Murray relives the same interactions day after day, without the people being involved actually having any recollections of them...but hey, this is Pret, what can you expect, right? Not only do they serve fresh, healthy, delicious food (I'm a sucker for their new non-fat yogurt pot with shaves of apple and almonds) but their coffee is much better than the other big name chains and far cheaper. Plus, who doesn't love a good sando? As a kicker, they have an incredible visual marketing team that creates the cutest in-store graphics! Seriously... the sheep made out of cauliflower and an olive? Great coffee, good variety of meats and cheeses, excellent value, friendly staff, good for studying…read more With my last CA exam tomorrow, I'm jittery and looking for a place to relax and get some studying done. Luckily, just down the street is Gastronomica which I've heard great things about but never made it there (the strange rule of the closer something is the less likely you are to try it being in effect). I wandered in and spread myself out (my papers, not literally myself!) on a table for four. I liked the look of the place immediately, very rustic european without any pretentiousness. The waiter/cook/barrista guy came over, and within seconds I was munching on a pain au chocolat (the place has a mix of french/italian/spanish foods) and sipping a well prepared double espresso. A quick word about the coffee as that's usually a big selling point for such places. I couldn't place the bean but the coffee was not too hot as to scald the tongue and hide the flavours, but not so cooled to room temperature as to lose the invigorating effects of a hot drink on a cold day. I enjoyed the bouquet and range of tastes (fruity with a hint of bitter chocolate). The pastry was fresh although I would have preferred a little more chocolate but then again at 9am perhaps it was best that it didn't. After an hour of studying, I was in need of more refreshment and was very pleased that the orange juice was freshly squeezed to order. Overall, love the place for a chill quite study area. The waiter only came over when called and in general left me in peace. I didn't feel like I had to leave or even share my table despite the relative popularity and small size of the cafe. I'll definitely be back, especially as my 2 hour breakfast and study session only cost a fiver!

It was ok - very very Italian. The service is warm, but not very attentive. There were quite a few flies that were a bother, and I would not have been to keen to eat here because of them. I had an Aperol spritz which was lovely and my friend's beer was great. What I really liked was the selection of groceries around the place. I ended up buying some old favourites - Mulino Bianco biscuits, some grissini and some chocolate. I might go back to try their Wednesday night apperitivo, which I have heard is excellent.

Delicious! This place is GOOD, better than good, California good, I'll even go as far to say Italy good. I've had "good food in London", but Cali good, those meals are few and far between. I am quite the spoiled one. The waiter/cook/(owner, maybe??) Was straight from Italy with a bit of a language barrier and an accent as authentic as the food. I had melt in your mouth gnocchi with a tomato cream sauce and smoked salmon. I took the first bite and did a very audible Oh. MY. GOD. This is SO GOOD! Food heaven. Service was interesting but we walked in at 430pm and I think we messed with his timing mojo or something, but he was super sweet. My friend had the grilled salmon which was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Portions were good for lunch and prices were appropriate. Icing on the cake, the coffee was really good. And in London that is a miracle on it's own.

I went on a weeknight during a recession, which meant that it was very nearly empty. That said, the decor is modern and trendy, offering something different to many places in the same genre. Capacity is good, meaning it felt more empty than it actually was, and I hope that if I try it on a weekend the atmosphere would be much better. That aside, the service was prompt, efficient and friendly, and the food was excellent. I was immediately drawn to the vegetable satay, having previously only been able to wonder with my vegetarian mind what the famed chicken satay tasted like. It didn't disappoint. As a fan of peanut butter, I ended up eating the sauce on its own after the tasty veggies were finished. Next up was my usual green curry, which was not too hot but still very tasty, and great, as usual, the the celiac-friendly-but-not-immediately-obviously-so 'glutenous' sticky rice. To finish, I tried my first Thai pancake, and wonderful it was, too. A lovely blend of coconut and cream, hot and cold, soft and chewy awesomeness rounded off a very satisfying meal. And the wine wasn't half bad either. In fact, the only thing stopping the Fat Boys getting five star from me is their fondness of the worst music ever made. For me, there just isn't a good time to have Craig David, Brittney Spears et al in the background. EVER.

The reason it is a star short of the initial rating is due to the long wait after the bill arrives and the fact that one has to order rice and noodles separate from the main meal. Nevertheless, the food was tasty and in the right portion. Albeit with Thai food, I always seem to want more! I wish I could tell you what I ordered but pronouncing the name of the dish was difficult enough let alone remembering it. Two people with an alcoholic drink each and main meal came up to about 35 pounds.

I was especially pleased to see a GBK arrive here given that (a) I am a fan already and (b) we are at the cinema at Southside a lot. Well, this new addition did not disappoint. We only had an hour to kill before our movie and were really rather hungry; we were sat around 7pm on a Thursday night and was done eating less than 40minutes later. The food was up with the usual good standards of GBK; juicy burgers, generous toppings, and oh - those sweet potato fries and bacon aioli. Bacon aioli! It is marvellous. I want to dip everything I ever eat in bacon aioli. GBK are going through a bit of a makeover at the moment, and this is the first I have seen with the new, brighter decor. Given the restaurant here is brand new, everything feels nicely fresh and clean. There were scrabble tiles designating everything from the M/F bathrooms, the staff areas, and otherwise spelling out amusing messages around the building. The waiting staff are all full of energy and chattiness and make the whole thing that little more pleasant. Oh, and whilst there's a good amount of seats downstairs, there was a whole other bar and area upstairs. I think they may rent out some of it as private space, but it looks a great size and just as airy and bright as the downstairs. All in all, if you love GBK, this is a nice and fresh addition to the chain!

The staff were really friendly, welcoming, & genuine. The burgers were standard GBK delicious! Just as yummy as I expect from this chain. I was happy to see the sweet potato fries with bacon aioli are on the menu here as they are just divine. I could put that bacon aioli on almost anything - it's that good.
