Pizza Express is certainly a hot spot in Carlisle, and with so many interesting options on the menu, it comes as no surprise. I didn't think my meal was anything to rave about, but I'm willing to give another Pizza Express a go before making up my mind.
I started with the olives marinate and caesar salad, both of which were a bit lacking in flavor. I was particularly disappointed with the salad, which was extremely bland. If the dressing did in fact include anchovies, they added very little, and the three anchovies strewn about my plate did not give the salad a much needed boost.
The margherita pizza was perfectly fine, though I prefer mine with white cheese and much more basil. Still, the pizza had a lovely, crisp crust and was cooked well. I would likely order something else off the menu if given another chance, however, as it simply wasn't a spectacular main.
The restaurant is housed in an old bank a few blocks away from the train/bus station, which makes it very convenient. The decor was plain - white walls with simple artwork and little else - but certainly better looking than most pizza restaurants in the area.
