25th anniversary vacation with Wife N, sunning our buns in Playa del Carmen for 7 days and nights…read moreof R&R. They brought an amuse bouche: sea scallop with mild curry. The curry was excellent, very mild but complex, and the scallop perfectly cooked. I just looked at Wife N and we both came to the same conclusion: if this is what the surprise bite can pull off, we're in for a great meal! We started with two appetizers: a fois gras and a seared Ahi. Fois gras and tuna both were well prepared and constructed. Tuna flawlessly seared, salad nicely dressed. Main course: filet, ordered rare, cooked rare to perfection. Holy moly, this was fantastic. Cardamom streak gave it just that little hint of something special and unique. The cod was, again, flawless. Mustard added the perfect level of acidity to the sauce and the fish was flaky, tender and juicy. The sauteed bell peppers and Harricots verts (green beans) complemented the fish nicely and made for a lovely splash of color on the plate. Look, this place is basically the resort's "house restaurant" on the Royal Service side and the meal was covered. But even if I'd had to pay for it, I still would have been happy with the meal. It was as flavorful and well-prepared as any $30 a plate upscale place stateside. House wines weren't bad at all. I'm no sommelier, but I kind of know what I like. The red was a Spanish Merlot, but really reminded me a lot of an Argentinean Malbec. Nice complexity and not too heavy. The white was another Spanish wine, a Sauvignon Blanc, but this one had a massive nose of raisin and red currant (very odd for a white); the flavor was very fruity but at the same time quite dry. For "house wines" we both felt they were winners. Dessert of poached pears with vanilla and raspberry and chocolate sauces with crumbled whipped cream. Nicely done. Simple ingredients done well. This is night #1 of our seven-night stay. If LA Palapa is even a remote indication of the food quality here, I'm already salivating over what tomorrow's meals will be offering.

We stayed at the Paradisus La Perla Royal Service adults recently. Wished to comment about this…read morerestaurants chef (Chef Eduardo) and his excellent tasting food. Was what we needed for breakfast. The waiter Renau was also very pleasant, very excellent English and appreciated his help for us and Breakfast menu as well as lunch he and Chef Eduardo(hope spelled right) made for us. Great communications with us and his Chef Edwardo. Appreciated the little adjustment to making us a certain lunch sandwich, great taste! This restaurant is in a nice location close to for our adults pool. Good work you two and thanks for the nice lunch meal. Longbeach.
