Reconsider!
Dr. Garry Bonsall had my son's wire-retainer…read moreremoved (the braces were out already). My son was in Dr. Bonsall office for about 15 or 20 minutes. And while we were grateful, I thought the bill for Fr. 355 was rather expensive for this short amount of time.
Two days later my son went to see Dr. Bonsall's dental hygienist and had a cleaning done there.
At the end of the cleaning my son came to me into the waiting room and said that he was asked by the dental hygienist, to go and ask me, whether I would give him permission for a fluoride treatment for Fr. 58 or Fr. 56.
I was shocked and said to him that Fr. 58 was quite a lot. I hadn't been at any dentist where fluoride had been so expensive. It had always been part of the regular exam for a fraction of that price Unfortunately, I agreed to it. My son went back into the dental hygienist's room, and I heard him referring the price back to her, as in: "The fluor treatment for Fr. 58 is okay." I heard him, I was sitting in the waiting room. 25min later he came back out and we went home. Some days later we got two bills from the dental hygienist.
One for the dental hygienist's cleaning for Fr. 156.
And another bill for Fr. 158.20, what the dental hygienist called the fluoride treatment.
Besides that the amount was Fr. 100 more than agreed upon, the bill was invoiced TP 11.30 (Fr.) x 14 -- (in other words, Fr. 11.30 x 14) and did not say anything about a fluoride treatment. Go ahead and try to tell me that this was 14 times a dose of special expensive fluoride!
I thought Fr. 58 was a lot. Imagine Fr. 158.20. And this on a separate bill as if we had made two visits.
Additionally, this fluoride treatment was not listed on the dental hygienist's cleaning bill, as a second accounting line, indicating fluoride. Instead we got this entirely separate bill with this non-matching amount and description, as if we had come for two separate sessions.
So I got in touch with the dental hygienist (Mimi), and explained the situation. And all she said was that she told my son, the fluoride treatment was Fr. 158. And that she knew what she said and how much it was.
I pointed out to her that my son even related the price back to her (which could be heard in the waiting room). Then she said that she would talk to Dr. Bonsall.
My son is relatively good at higher math, algebra, probability, functions, pre-calculus, trigonometry etc. and would be able to distinguish between 158 and 58 in German and English.
I didn't hear back from dental hygienist. So I wrote a registered letter to Dr. Bonsall, where I explained my discord. Didn't hear back either, just got a payment reminder. And when I called and asked to talk to Dr. Bonsall, I was told that he wasn't there, when I asked when to call back to talk to him, I was told that this wasn't possible. Never got connected to him, never got a chance to talk to him, and never got a return call from him. Barbara (who currently goes by "secretary"on Dr.Bonsall's website https://www.drbonsall.ch/dr-garry-bonsall/), told me that she talked to the doctor and that my son was an adult, who would have to pay the bill. Ironically, all of a sudden my son no longer did need the permission of his mother; talking about double standards here. You cannot help but be amazed. Of course I pay the bills since he still goes to school.
You'd think a problem like this could have been resolved, after all. I just thought Dr. Bonsall could have handled it better, respectively handled it at all, which was not the case. It was just the way I experienced it, unprofessional. I also want to say, in defense of Dr. Bonsall that we thought never to run into a problem with him and that he would have an ethical standard.
