While driving from Bodrum to Selçuk we came upon a line of Çöp şiş restaurants in Söke. It looked…read moreto be the popular thing so we pulled a U-turn and stopped in to Meshur Ali Baba Çöp şiş for lunch. We found out later that Çöp şiş are small skewer kebabs, a specialty of this part of Turkey (yes, we were uninformed tourists). Meshur Ali Baba has no written menu and no English from the servers. Luckily the guy manning the grill could speak decent English and it became clear that their menu consisted of meat, meat, and more meat. No fish or vegetarian dishes which was not good for the pescetarian g/f. After some discussion on dietary restrictions he said they could make a salad and some toast for her. I got a combo plate of lamb skewers and meatballs. First out was a big salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onion with a sweet vinaigrette type of dressing (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/meshur-ali-baba-cop-sis-s%C3%B6ke?select=WleGMF40m-Y1k1SabUA-Pg#ydAWCcfJ03Cv7GF3fFPS-A). Toast turned out to be Turkish for toasted sandwich and this was also quite large (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/meshur-ali-baba-cop-sis-s%C3%B6ke?select=WleGMF40m-Y1k1SabUA-Pg#EQ3N-kfCCD7wy4GZ7_sZ0Q) and had some cheese, mayo and ketchup which doesn't sound the best, but the g/f really enjoyed the flavor combo (think grilled cheese with Russian dressing http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/meshur-ali-baba-cop-sis-s%C3%B6ke?select=WleGMF40m-Y1k1SabUA-Pg#k3nwkcOUFNnaTQLbZYWawg) My plate looked like a pile of bread and pita with not much else visible (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/meshur-ali-baba-cop-sis-s%C3%B6ke?select=WleGMF40m-Y1k1SabUA-Pg#tGLu0UZnfor6x0AiAeMjVg) Bread removal revealed grilled onion, tomato and peppers along with a generous pile of juicy and well marinated meats (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/meshur-ali-baba-cop-sis-s%C3%B6ke?select=WleGMF40m-Y1k1SabUA-Pg#KKvdOz62HH-QoHBxZvIg2w) We were stuffed and satisfied and all our food, 2 bottles of water, and 2 Turkish coffees were a little over 20TL ($10) Friendly, delicious and inexpensive. Definitely worth a stop if you're driving through Söke

The service was outstanding! Very attentive, and good with suggestions! The watermelon, mozzarella salad was different, interesting, and I loved it! We also had the sea scallops with black noodle, so Yum! And for dessert, we had the crème brûlée, so delicious! They have a good wine cellar as well and many choices! But I highly recommend getting the sangria! When in Bodrum, definitely stop here!

After 8 days of making a concerted effort to eat authentic Turkish food while in Turkey, we were a…read morelittle tired of it and needed a little break. When I saw that La Pasion is the second highest rated restaurant on trip advisor and that it serves Spanish tapas, I was all in. Finding this place wasn't hard. It's just off a main road in an alley leading to the beach. If you hear a guy screaming "balik" (fish), then your headed in the right direction. The restaurant is open air and shaded by a couple large trees making it feel quiet and secluded. Service is attentive but not oppressively so. Now on to the food... We ordered 7 tapas in lieu of tapas and paella and 7 was the perfect amount for two hungry travelers. Our favorites were the fried artichoke with aioli (studded with diced apple and mint), the calamari (accompanied by the same aioli) and the meatballs. Is it just me or are meatballs in Turkey an absolute delight? Anyhow, should you find yourself in Bodrum and need a break from Turkish fare, this restaurant is a great choice.
