In Boulogne-Billancourt, only a short walk away from Metro Station Billancourt (Line 9), you will…read morefind Piscine Boulogne-Billancourt. It´s a big public swimming pool with one Basin for swimmers with no shallow end (25 Meters length), one shallow basin for learners (also 25 Meters) and a third pool with a connection to a small pool outside of the building. Inside this third pool has some water-jets for massage, outside there is a current you can swim against - that said this current is quite weak so you shouldn't come there expecting a great work-out. Outside there is also a grass-patch to lie down and soak in some sun (in summer). It´s generally set up to be a great pool for families with children who will love the small water-slide. Other practical information: Lockers need a 1€ piece, there are free shower-gel/soap dispensers in the showers which are separated for men and women. You´ll need a bathing-cap and men need tight fitting swim-gear (no surfer-shorts) - there are also vending machines for that. Piscine Boulogne-Billancourt was very clean when I was there and there was always someone going around with a mop in the dressing room & locker area. The Building is in good shape and functional. The Staff I encountered was very friendly. Problems? None. It is a good pool and there are no real reasons against Piscine Boulogne-Billancourt. The only slightly negative thing that I can say is that the pool lacks character or charisma. It´s functional, clean, well maintained - and boring.

The Staff is friendly, there is always someone going around cleaning the changing cabins and the (money-less) lockers work. The pool is also one of the few really handicapped accessible public swimming pools in Paris. On the other Hand upstairs, there is the main basin and pool hall which are in very bad shape overall. This whole area has a real problem with mold and water entry from the roof. The basin has a lot of broken tiles on the sides that you could even cut yourself on. Under water the whole basin also looks like a patchwork-rug of tiles. It´s quite shocking to see as Paris has a lot of pools that are much older than Piscine Keller (opened 1967, last big renovation 2008), but few have a main basin in such a bad shape and over the time that I've been a regular there, it´s only gotten worse. It really is a shame because Piscine Keller with it´s 2 basins (one is 50 Meters in length) and retractable roof could be a really awesome public pool. As it is, it´s mediocre at best.

I had an incident with a rude lady that screamed at me twice and I can't for the life of me think why. She hit me twice while swimming and I didn't say anything :( The young girl at the reception was very very nice and helpful and she spoke English. The building is HUGE..I actually got lost and it took sometime to find the pool! The changing rooms had two doors one on each side and the lock is hidden at the bottom. I didn't even notice it till someone opened one of the doors of my changing room. It's bizarre. I won't go there again.

I´ve had a theory about the Staff at parisian Swimming-pools: It was that the staff are the most…read moreunfriendly when they have to work at a bad (old, broken) Swimming-pool. In Short: The worse the pool, the unfriendlier the people working there. Piscine d'Auteuil on the other hand is a pretty bad public swimming pool - with very friendly people working there. So there goes that theory. What´s the problem? Piscine d'Auteuil is simply some years overdue for renovation. Or make that a decade or two. Rust coming through the concrete everywhere and a lot cracks in the walls. The Building is in very bad shape. It is also not very inviting by modern standards. Dark showers, small changing cabins and the actual pool-hall with it´s yellow and blue color-theme has the charme of a early 1980ies dentist practice (meaning= none). They also don´t have lockers for your stuff, but a wardrobe-check where you exchange your belongings for a rubber band with a number drawn on it. The shoe-changing-area was disgustingly dirty while the rest of the pool seemed quite clean. Positives? Apart from the friendly people working there, it was quite empty at Piscine d'Auteuil (I certainly won´t return and I recon other people feel the same after going there once). And thanks to windows all around and in the ceiling, there is a lot of natural light in the Pool area.

When I have asked about the pool and about the equipment ( swimming suit etc) I was told men have to just wear swimming trunks and women cut out swimming suits. I told the manager that I have sensitive skin and get rashes from high dosages of chlorine and I was advised to wear a wetsuit ( shot leg but long sleeve ). The manager started being rude and kept telling me to go.. on and on. I asked him why I'm not allowed to wear a short wetsuit?! He didn't answer my question but kept showing me out! Rude , appalling and disrespectful behaviour. Utterly disgraceful! Please avoid if you can.

Being…read moreoutside it is not exactly nice though, you´re looking at a small terraced-garden out of concrete with some plastic sun loungers. Changing-rooms and showers (both mixed) are good and up to standard. Cleanliness was generally alright when I was there. The pool area is not dark at all even on a rainy day thanks to the floodlights and despite the ugly brown tiles/stones covering some parts of the walls. The 25x15 main basin is generally alright (some grouts you don´t want to look too closely at), but underwater in the deep part (up to 3,70m), there was a lot of dirt on the ground. Don´t know how often they clean down there - but they should definitely do that more often. Other negatives? Lanes are not designated to swimming speeds or styles, you have to figure that out yourself. Piscine Henry de Montherlant is a lot better than Piscine d´Autreil (also in the 16th and not far from there), but nothing to get excited about.
