Where do i start? at the finish of our expensive 12 day holiday in Scotland we were put in this establishment. In almost all respects a disappointment. The only redeeming factors were the nice lady helping us at our check -out and the fact that we didn't have to switch rooms when an extra night was added by our travel agency.
For starters there was the check -in. I couldn't remember the pin of my creditcard (what's the point of a credit card if you need a pin?) and our debit card does not support pre -authorisation. The guy at the desk said he couldn't take us in without a deposit, although everthing was fully paid in advance. Really, hotels here need to stop asking for deposits and creditcard pre- authorisations for rooms that have been payed in advance. I do not want to have a drink at your bar! and if i do, i will pay directly after having the drink. Or you can charge me at check out. Get over it!
Anyway, so i had to go down the street to get 20 pounds from the ATM for a deposit. After arguing with me about the debit card and saying i need to contact other businesses i visited, because payments may not have come through, and directions to the nearest parking garage, we finally get the key.
So the room was small. I mean a really small room, just big enough for a very small double bed. The bed was of poor quality (like hanging through?) and we never got a good nights sleep. The bathroom looked clean, but closer inspection showed that pinkish stuff everywhere, that comes from dead skin and it was clear that the shower cabin needed a fresh silicone lining.
This was the only hotel that didn't have the full Scottish breakfast we were promised by Scanbrit. But we can't hold that against Piries, i guess. They had a limited but o.k. buffet. The coffee was really weak, so two servings of espresso gives one normal coffee here.
The housekeeping was good enough, we didn't have trouble with that.
Maybe, in all fairness, this hotel is o.k. if you're not expecting as much and just a poor choice for us by Scanbrit.
Arguing with your customer and having them go get a 20 pound deposit however, does not make one feel very welcome. And some rooms are just too small to rent out to two grown adults. read more
