Awful food, great server; redhead girl with sincerity, personality who was really hustling and SO polite despite them being very understaffed on a Wednesday and looking utterly clueless as to how clear/carry plates, course a meal and just overall how to run a front of house dinner service. Bad onion soup that tasted canned, with way too much cheese-- bland gobs of mozzarella cheese. Under seasoned steamer clams, no garlic, herbs, butter, beer/wine. Fishy clams that tasted medicinal, of bleach water. Really mediocre crab cakes that seemed as tho they were made of canned crab from China, not fresh picked too much breading and old bay, probably frozen pre-made crab cakes, frozen shrimp over cooked. Crap quality pasta and tough lobster. Only thing good the entire meal was fried calamari, which was suspiciously tender and not at all chewy; hence my minor worries of it being undercooked. Hard to fuck up a Caesar salad but the dressing was store bought, croutons were out of a bag and lettuce was cut into awkwardly large pieces and dressing tasted like it was store brand. The whole salad tasted like a bagged salad. Is it that hard to source quality ingredients? My seafood pasta was so fishy the leftovers stunk up my car and trash can at home instantly. We called to make a 6 or 6:30 reservation and we're told to come at 6 because they close at 7 and this way we wouldn't be rushed. We were seated at 6pm, ordered apps, salad, & 2 entrees, and were done with the entire meal at 6:23. The clam & mussel app was served in plain water, no broth at all and 25% of the shells were closed and inedible. The penne w/pesto was pre-cooked and the pesto was a newburg sauce with some pesto in it and you could tell it was sitting under the lights because the cream had started to curdle. The lobster/crab cake was fried but the middle wasn't cooked enough. The best part of the meal was the salad which was also pre made. My family has been coming to the Pirate's Den for as long as I can remember. Over the years, it's started to look a lot less like a house and a lot more like a diner with an ocean mural on the wall. Walking in before the start of the off season, all patrons seem to know each other and there's no wait. The price is right and the menu seems more exotic than I remember. On this trip, I got the lobster quesadilla and it came out quickly after I ordered it. I enjoyed it and the pork roll and hash brown egg sandwich that my boyfriend got looked pretty great too. I wear my "Work like a captain, party like a pirate" shirt from there time to time and people seem to LOVE it. For as long as they're open, I'll always go back. read more

We had been here a few years back after a half marathon for breakfast and it was terrific. I was expecting the same quality and service and received neither. My sister and I got here around 5:45pm - it was busy but there were a handful of tables open. It took our server 15 mins to even stop by and her 'welcome' was "What do you want?" At that point, we should've walked out and looking back, I, my stomach and wallet, wish we had. My sister ordered the stuffed flounder with New England clam chowder & I had the seafood Alfredo with same soup. The soup was thick like slop, as if it had been sitting in the pan for a week and the saltines were damp and soggy (in the wrapper!). The server threw away our order and had to come back to ask. When it came out, my sister's was bland and my 'Alfredo' was cafeteria style white cheese sauce from a can on overcooked pasta (should be linguini) with 3 shrimp and 3 rubbery scallops and for some reason a few slices of red pepper, which isn't in normal Alfredo. We couldn't get the check fast enough to get out of there. I had a 2 hour drive home and within 10 miles on the parkway, became violently ill & was up sick all night. $55 wasted - the Board of Health should do a thorough inspection of this restaurant as either the seafood isn't being cooked to proper temps or left out to spoil. read more

It's located at the end of Brigantine right across the beach. Thankfully they do offer outside dining during this tough time. Came in the other day for a late breakfast and had a really nice "brunch". I ordered the eggs Benedict which was served with a nice portion of well seasoned, tasty potatoes. The dish had a generous amount of hollandaise sauce (my usual complaint with this dish is places being stingy with the hollandaise), a perfectly cooked egg, a nice tender slice of country ham, served on fluffy english muffin. It was quite a nice breakfast dish, good portion, flavorful, presented well and much appreciated. Because I was on a short mini vacation and splurged and made it a real brunch by also ordering something sweet and tried the bananas foster french toast. The french toast was thick and airy and super good, the bananas were cooked down the right amount and the dish really hit the spot. The people working here were friendly, the service was attentive, the decor is cute and beachy and the prices were very reasonable. A nice little breakfast/lunch/brunch spot just steps away from the beach. Look forward to coming back on my next trip down. read more

The Pirate's Den is under new ownership and while I thought everything would remain the same, sadly it has not. I've been a patron for the past 20 years and I will never return after this past weekend. The new owners raised prices and significantly reduced portion sizes. I ordered my favorite omelet and it came on a small plate and your could count the number of cubed potatoes. They also play games with wait times. On a Saturday morning we were told there was a 40 minute wait and I went inside to use the restroom the place was almost empty. We decided to sit outside as we could be seated immediately. When I asked our Server what the breakfast specials were, she responded by saying I would need to go inside and look at the board...now there's some great service for you! So many other great places on the island to eat breakfast where you still get value for your money. read more

Unbelievable. Ive never gotten sick anywhere except for once a real long time ago. We had breakfast here. Small table for four. The table wobbled. I had my normal breakfast that I order everywhere. Western omelet with breakfast potatoes with a side of Scrapple. I was so excited that someone actually had that. It tasted weird but I ate it anyway! Well, guess what. Crab stuffed shrimp- small portions. Only four shrimp and not much lump to the crab. They were seasoned nicely. The eggplant Parmesan was under cooked and had to be sent back. The second go around was ok with al dente penne . The sauce was excellent. Steamed veggies were fresh and coleslaw was creamy. This was our first indoor dining experience since COVID started. The eatery was spacious and had high ceilings and there seemed to be an aeration system being used. That made me comfortable. All the staff were masked and were amazing except for the young kid who visited our table every 5 mins-- not so good. He was nice but geez, let us be. Listen seafood lovers, get out of the casino, hop in your car or take an Uber, and go to the Pirate's Den a short drive away at the end of Brigantine. We had a great mixed grill seafood on linguini (or even fettuccini, honey) and blackened tuna with wasabi. Both meals came with soup or non-romaine salad and two sides. My Fiancé and I went to the Pirates Den solemnly because of the reviews, it assured us the food was good. We walk in and are stared at by 3 workers who then proceed to continue with their conversation. We had to ask them if we should seat ourselves or if they seat us... We ordered calamari and it was chewy rubber. The fish from the fish & chips meal did not taste like a normal cod fish, you're better off buying frozen Gordon's filets and air frying them yourself. The only good thing about the place were the French fries. Would not recommend this place, I don't know how they had 4 stars. read more

It's rare I find a diner this good. I got the crab and asparagus omelet. I also got the cheesecake raspberry pancakes that were topped with strawberries and whipped cream. Every bite was AMAZING. Brigantine is a cute, sedate little oasis just a hop, skip and a jump from Atlantic City bustle and blight. Come here if the idea of no crowds, no noise and no drama appeals to you. When you get here, come to the Pirates Den. It doesn't matter if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. Although I have to say the fact that they serve breakfast all the way up until mid afternoon is gosh darn convenient for people like my family. You can sit outside and people-watch across from the seawall, which is like a miniature promenade. Or you can sit inside in the tidy, surprisingly spacious air conditioned dining room. Carrie and her crew treat everyone like family. I mean in the best sense of the word, NOT as in, you will need therapy afterwards. We were advised to come here by our landlord, but that only counts for the first time. We came back several times during our week here, both for breakfast and dinner. Inside and outside. We were pleased every time. For breakfast, the southwest omelette is great. The challah French toast is great. But the most celebrated dish was off the specials board: peanut butter stuffed French toast with raspberry sauce. Picture a really decadent peanut butter and jelly sandwich on a plate. For dinner the odds on favorite was the mustard grilled salmon. Although everything on the specials list was equally yummy. Not a clunker in the bunch. The setting is unbeatable for a beach trip. As a big " down the beach", pickie as they come, breakfast guy ...We now have one of our 2 favorite spots for breakfast...on the Jersey coast...( and I am shore lunch and dinner would be no different). This place is bad, no alcohol, waited forever for food, got steamers for appetizer - they had essentially no meat and were disgusting, entree was okay, then waited forever for check. What a great experience from start to finish! This restaurant is literally right next to the shore and parking was free and ample spaces were available. All employees wore masks and the restaurant offered both indoor & outdoor dining with socially distanced seating. We only had to wait a few minutes for indoor dining and they made sure to clean tables immediately after use for the next customer. The staff were all so friendly and you can tell that they're used to socializing with the regulars which made it feel like you were having dinner at a friend's house and not a restaurant on the shore. The servings were huge and we had to take a lot of food home as leftovers which is fine by me! The food was prepared quickly, drinks were constantly refilled, and we were constantly attended by our wonderful waiter, Ryan. The burger was prepared well (medium cooked) and the fries weren't that salty which is good for the waistline. Clam chowder was hefty and they did not skimp on the portions/clam meat in the bowl. A casual eatery in a great location in Brigantine across from the beach. Park on the street. Spacious outdoor seating. Extensive menu. We tried the Early Bird specials. I highly recommend the appetizer fried calamari. Homemade, lightly battered and tender calamari. My daughter really enjoyed the Shrimp and calamari fra diavolo. My son in law had the fried shrimp and oysters. Shrimp was good but oysters were just okay. Hubby had crab cakes which had good amount of shredded crabmeat with deep fried crust. I ordered the pork chop which was plain but enjoyable with apple sauce. All entrees came with two sides. The meals came with soup or salad, entree, dessert and beverage. Portion size was small but with everything else, satisfyingly full. Service staff was nice, but very short handed so prepare to wait. I would go back! read more

9:30am on a Sunday and my boyfriend and I were seated outside right away. Shortly after we arrived we heard larger groups showing up being told the wait could be 20-30 minutes. Makes sense at a popular breakfast joint on Sunday morning. We shared the Crab & Asparagus Omelet and the Raspberry Cheesecake Pancakes. The pancakes themselves are absolutely delicious, fluffy, and hot, but they lacked Raspberry-Cheesecakeness. They were topped with strawberries and whipped cream. $9. Yummy, but should have had much more of the filling/flavor that was promised. The omelet comes with hashbrowns and toast. Nothing was bad, the crab and asparagus itself are actually quite tasty, but I would have liked to see more crab meat, and I can't ignore that the omelet was sloppily prepared. Doesn't hold a solid form like I think a good omelet should. Food took a bit long to come out, but hey it was Sunday morning and the place was busy! I'll definitely go back and order a simple stack of pancakes (maybe plain, maybe banana or blueberry), and a non-omelet egg dish. The open early and remember your name if you're a regular which is a nice touch. What isn't a nice touch is how unsanitary the restaurant is as a whole. The front of the place is cleaned quite well but the kitchen and back area has probably never been cleaned. I've personally seen cooks drop food and utensils on the floor and pick it up and continue to use it. Employees are often underpaid and give zero breaks (which is against the law for minors). If you'd like to eat outside that's good just be prepared to give up your food to the bugs and birds if you need to get up at all. Most of the food on the menu is quite good but the rude staff and servers make the food the last thing you think about when leaving after a lunch. read more

Stopped here for dinner on 8/7/16 with my girlfriend after a day of beach fun and crusing up the north end of Brigantine. We were happy to see it was a casual little spot with great outdoor seating which was perfect because we just came off the beach. I had the BRIG burger which was grilled the way I like. However, it said it was served on panini bread but it came on a portugese roll. Thought that was a little odd but no biggie, still good nonetheless! My girlfriend had the calamari fra diavolo and the roasted peppers appetizers. Very good! A couple things I noticed that I hope management will consider changing. First, outdoor seating customers should be able to go through the side door to use the restrooms inside instead of walking through the middle of the restaurant. Second, update the menus a little bit ans maybe throw a couple pictures in there. Overall, great little mom and pop restaurant that's perfect for a casual dinner in the summertime! read more

I have always enjoyed Pirates Den, especially breakfast. Our dinner experience yesterday was disappointing. We ordered from the early bird specials listed on the back of the menu. Lamb chops and salmon entrees were okay. The coleslaw was so dry and tasteless that I couldn't eat it. No soup choices were given so they brought what I think must have been a version of snapper soup. I brought it home for our dog who loved it. The only dessert was choice of pudding which tasted liked canned. The worst part was being given the check with $2.00 higher prices than the early bird menu for each entree and told "oh yeah, the prices went up". They should have given us the price on the menu. The dinner fare has gotten tired so won't go again for dinner, but the breakfast is still excellent and reasonable. read more
