Nicely decorated restaurant and kind wait staff, however, for one, the food quality seemed inconsistent. Some dishes were great and others did not. Yesterday the chicken franchese over rice could have been mistaken for a frozen dinner produced with low quality chicken. There was a frozen dinner consistency to this special. The overall quality of this sunset or early bird special, was subpar for the price. If the restaurant raises the quality of the ingredients that would be great because the actual preparation was good. According to the menu it came with pudding. I can't explain how it was because the waiter never offered it. I think the place could be quite perfect if they would review quality of all foods served and all details of the menu. read more

Dining has finally opened indoors in NJ, so good to see this place open. I was there with my sister, and my entree was delicious. I ordered the Greek Shrimp pasta dish, and while I was afraid it might be a bit salty, it was not. The feta cheese in the sauce gave it a creamy consistency. The olives used were not Kalamata, but rather black olives, so that kept the salt level down. It was decadent and delicious. I had ordered a cup of clam chowder, which came out cold and the consistency of a can of Campbell's Condensed Mushroom Soup...before the milk is added. My sister opted for the Seafood Grill. She ended up leaving over much of it. The lobster tail was overcooked, so was tough and rubbery. The linguine had no seasoning at all, but the rest of the seafood in the dish was so salty it was difficult to eat. She took it home since she had left over so much, thinking she could wash off some of the salt. But that didn't help at all. So as good as my dish was, is as bad as her dish was. Service was good, though our waiter seemed stretched pretty thin, despite the reduced number of tables. I guess the staff was reduced as well. Still in all, it was great to be out for dinner in a restaurant in New Jersey, and we still enjoyed the experience overall. So since this is my review, I give it 4 stars. Fun atmosphere and there is all types of food for everyone to eat. We ate dinner here. I had the fish of the day which was snapper with rice and vegetables. Came here with a big party for brunch. They were able to seat us at the time we called for. I ordered the crossiant French toast and shared a captain Cobb salad. The crossiant French toast was a crossiant cut in half and toasted. It was a bit under my expectations. The Cobb salad was fresh and very tasty. It is a bit pricer but it was a huge plate of greens and grilled chicken. The waitress was extremely nice and cracked a few jokes. I would stop by for brunch again. read more

Went here on 8/18/24, mom and dad ordered the early bird scallops that came with baked potato and coleslaw. The food came out luke warm. There were four medium sized scallops. My husband ordered a burger, medium well, took one bite and it was bloody rare inside. I had the stir fry chicken with vegetables and that did come out hot and it was very tasty. There were so many flies flying around us. It was not a pleasant experience. We did tell the server, Tristan, who was very good and well attentive, about the burger and he offered to send it back, but by that time my husband was over the whole dinner. We also told the counter girl when paying about the under cooked burger, and all she did was apologize for it. That was a 19 dollar burger that went to waste. Customer service was beyond amazing at the Pirates Den. I love that the water was across the street (no it's not on the water). We went for a late lunch around 2pm and the environment was quiet and clean. I got a Caesar salad and it was good! They have options for children! They are BYOB and do not serve alcohol, but they have wine classes, etc if you would like to bring some in. The staff was amazing and provided us with further recommendations during our stay! First time visiting the Pirates Den and boy was it a great way to wine down after a long day at the beach. Due to CO-VID19 of course there was no indoor seating, however, we were able to enjoy our meals on their patio outdoors. Overall the food was great, I was really impressed with the calamari; everything else was a little bland--Nothing I can't fix at home though so I'm happy with my overall purchase. Pirates Den is a staple in Brigantine. However, the new owners have expanded the menu tremendously. Our server was fantastic; he had seven or eight tables, but was very attentive. We had a variety of food: the French fried lobster tail appetizer, the strawberry goat cheese salad, French onion soup, New Zealand rack of lamb, and the filet mignon Oscar. The fried lobster tail was perfectly cooked and came with salty and sweet butter. The strawberry goat cheese salad was very tasty and light. The French onion soup had a delicious, rich broth and beautifully melted cheese. The New Zealand rack of lamb was beautifully crusted with spices and perfectly cooked. The filet mignon Oscar was cooked perfectly to my requested medium rare with buttery hollandaise sauce and a generous portion of lump crab meat. The service was very attentive! One star for just the inconvenience of showing up to the restaurant for breakfast on a beautiful morning with our pups and being told we couldn't be seated because the outdoor seating was closed. There were 2 tables of people inside and staff standing around but we couldn't be seated. Won't be going back. And no, we were not offer take out. We always go here for breakfast in the summer but given the Covid situation we are trying to patronize local businesses for takeout (despite all the rude shoobie comments voiced on Brigantine Facebook pages from year round residents, we realize it's not the fault of the business owners who rely on second homeowners to keep their businesses thriving in the summer). We started with an order of wings as an appetizer, and when we opened the container, the wings were super small. However, there were about 12 pieces in there for $5.50 and they were SO GOOD...extra crispy and the sauce was on point. For dinner we ordered 3 entrees. I had the fried shrimp and crab cake combo. It came with 2 crab cakes and 4 fried shrimp. The seafood was super crispy which I was concerned about for takeout, but it came out great. I had cole slaw and a twice baked potato as sides. The cole slaw was good but there was not that much of it. The twice baked potato was very good and I appreciated it as an option that was different than the sides you might typically get. Our second entree was the fried flounder. It came with two large pieces of fish that were perfectly fried. For sides we chose mixed veggies and fries. The fries were not that crispy and there were only a few of them, but the the veggies were cooked perfectly. This was enough for my two boys to split with leftovers. My husband ordered the chicken and shrimp stir fry. He said it was "ok." All entrees came with a side salad that was also "ok." However, the white balsamic dressing that came with the salads was very good. Overall, this was a good meal and we will return for dinner again. read more

Thank you yelp for finding pirate's den. After a night in ac, my friends and I decided breakfast by the beach was the ideal cure for our champagne hangover. All I can say about pirates den was yum. Brigantine is a cute little beach town north of ac on a barrier island. So ya it's a detour but well worth the 15 min drive from ac (you have to drive back to get to any highways as well). The inside is totally kitschy. Coming off st paddys, pirates den had the green theme going but it's definitely a cute shabby little restaurant and diner. The menu is extensive and there are so many specials - tons of different pancakes, eggs many Benedict's, and a zillion different omelettes. Definitely look at the reader board before you make a decision. We left the restaurant at 10am on a Sunday and there was already a line so get here early! read more

This place is a solid 4.5/5. Food was really tasty and cooked very well. We ordered the Eggs Crab Benedict, Challah French Toast, and the Brig Burger. The Eggs Crab Benedict were REALLY good -- a 9-9.5/10. The crabs were fresh and tasty, eggs Benedict cooked perfectly, and Hollandaise sauce was perfect. Nothing else to say. The Challah French Toast was also really good -- a nice crust with a very moist and soft inside. 9/10. The Brig burger was okay, 6/10 for me, my wife liked it more cuz it had blue cheese in it. We visited this restaurant for the first time last night. We had to wait for about 45 minutes to get a table which worked out great as they are directly across from the beach and we got to relax on a bench watching the waves while we waited. The tables were well spaced apart, the seafood entrees were outstanding and the service was really exceptional. I am a little disappointed in tonight's visit. It has become the usual stop every time we are in brigantine, but now I am not too sure. We dined outside, and that was a bad choice. We felt the server forgot about us, and when he did get our drink order, it took a while just to get them. He did understand that we had kids and was helpful in telling us the kids food would be out earlier than ours. The soups are good, but the calamari tasted not fresh. The kids food came out(hotdogs nothing special), and to no avail, our food was not there. The kids finished, and were getting really antsy, still no food for us. I asked another server if he could find out where our food was, and he was VERY apologetic that our food wasn't there. Our server came to the table to apologize, I asked him to wrap our food to go since the kids(2 and 6 by the way) and my wife went for a walk. He said the ticket was the next one to be done. Seriously?!? Ugh. Ok, I will go inside and pay, and please bring my food to me in there. I met with the owner at the register to pay, and was asked how everything was, I responded that we did not have a chance to try anything yet. He didn't really seem too apologetic. I asked if they were busy, and he said they got slammed an hour ago, I responded that we were there since an hour ago. I finally got my order, and he FINALLY said that we was "sorry about that". Now the kicker, my wife said that her blacked ahi tuna seemed not fresh, and was something out of restaurant impossible. She finished searing it on the stove. As for my filet and shrimp linguini. I will let the picture speak for itself. The linguini had a good flavor and the shrimp were ok, the steak? Eh. I get they were busy? But I think they are biting off more that they can chew with the additional seating arrangements. I felt it was sub par this time, considering the almost 30 years we have been going there. Zero stars if I could! My husband and I, parents, and my sleeping baby ended up coming here from a recommendation from another nearby place that had a 2 hour wait. When we called ahead we were told there was no wait to sit outside. We got here, sat quickly, and no one came over to us for quite awhile. Then watched as 2 tables sat after us and were greeted by the waitress before us. I eventually asked if we had a server, to which the nice young girl told us we had a waitress who was new and it was her first night. I worked in the restaurant business for many years And am both sensitive and patient to this. However, Here we are almost 2 hours after initially sitting down and we had to take our food to go because my son woke up. Every table that sits the waitresses greet with "I'm sorry for..." i have heard these girls apologize profusely to every single table sitting outside for one thing or another. When our order of fried calamari came out - and there was maybe 9 pieces of calamari. It was meant for 4 adults to share. So much for that. Right before the food came out My stepdad went inside to pay for whatever food we did eat, and the owner of the restaurant said "we're busy" and didn't want his money. We paid for our food because that's the right thing to do, but the entire experience was awful. The waitress apologized again as we left, however, the whole thing just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. If you have a restaurant at the jersey shore, on a holiday weekend, you should anticipate being busy! I shouldn't beat up Pirates Den over one okay omelette. After spending more time on the island, I've come to recognize Pirates Den as one of the better establishments. They offer an early bird dinner that my folks love, and have a solid menu all around. My past view visits I've gone the fish route. They don't have the largest selection, but I thoroughly enjoyed my blackened flounder. Most entrees come with bread, salad and two sides. BYOB for the win still. They have an overall nice variety of American food and things you'd want to see at a shore town eatery. They have outdoor tables that overlook the sea wall. I've also found the service to be much better during recent visits. I don't recall the name of my server from the Saturday night of MDW, but she was top notch. Are there better places out there? Shore (see what I did there?) However, this is going to be one of the better options if you are looking to eat in Brigantine. read more
