If you need a space conducive to focused practice, do not come to this facility. The rooms are essentially open invitations for DJs to blast their mixes at deafening volumes, with zero consideration for other users.
When I first encountered this at the location, I thought the noise was coming from the hallway because it was so loud and pervasive. I reached out to customer service, genuinely confused, thinking there must be some mistake. When I discovered the noise was coming from a studio, I hoped my concerns would be addressed. Instead, they condescendingly informed me, "we cannot ask them to turn down the volume as one of the purposes of rehearsing at PIRATE is to be able to play out loud." When I asked if there were any rooms with better soundproofing, I was told that none of their rooms are soundproofed.
They offered to switch me to a new room, but when I asked if I could go in and hear if it was any better, they told me I couldn't. I then requested a security guard to accompany me to check the noise level, and suddenly, I was told that no rooms were available after all. I ended up losing 90 minutes of my session just trying to get this sorted, only to have to leave early when another DJ started up again.
They did offer to cancel my booking with an immediate credit card refund, but I needed the time to practice right then and there--not a refund after the fact. People book these spaces to have focused time to work, not to arrive and hope it's an okay time to practice depending on the noise levels.
To be clear, I didn't expect complete silence, just a reasonable environment to practice. Instead, I was made to feel unreasonable for having what I consider a fair expectation of a practice space. They offered me a 50% discount for my next session, which is laughable considering the experience I had. And to anyone from customer service reading this, I don't want a refund now or any emails apologizing--just to warn others.
If you're a serious musician or anyone looking for a productive practice environment, avoid Pirate's facilities at all costs. Unless, of course, you're interested in a battle of who can play their music the loudest. I certainly won't be returning, and I strongly advise others to steer clear as well.
