We rocked into Colac pretty late and had to find somewhere that was open. The kids vetoed a pub…read moredinner yet again (I like country pub dinners OK) and La Porchetta was about the only other place open. As the name suggests it's Italian. They do pizzas and pastas and your traditional Italian type fare. They do it pretty well too. First thing to note is that this place is huge. It's in an old building that must have been an old country department store at some stage because there is about an acre of floor space. The second thing to note is that it's absolutely packed. In spite of the vast size of the place, they had a little trouble finding a table for us. I suspect the whole town was in there having dinner which says something about the quality of the food. The huge table next to us seemed to have a perpetual party going on - groups of young people would rock up, join in, order more pizzas then drift off again for their places to be filled by yet more groups of young people. They had clearly been there a while and when we left they seemed in no danger of finishing any time soon. I suspect the same party has been going continuously for years. This is very definitely a family restaurant. The ambience is very, very family. There is a kids playground in one corner (nicely balanced by the full bar in the other corner) there were kids running everywhere and harried parents running after them. One small child made a break for freedom while it's parents were distracted by older siblings and nearly made it out the front door before being intercepted. It was noisy and somewhat chaotic but very friendly. The food? It was pretty good. We don't tend to go Italian when we eat out because I cook so much of it at home but this was nice. Not fancy. Basic, solid Italian pizza and pasta. I had an Italian sausage risotto mostly because it was a couple of days after Christmas and the thought of facing anything more substantial than rice after the gorging that had gone on over the last few days was not very appealing. Unfortunately for me, I had forgotten how huge portions can be in the country and I was presented with a small monolith of rice and sausage. Very tasty it was too but I had to struggle to finish it. The kids had no trouble with theirs (another risotto and a mushroom ravioli) but they are teenagers and apparently never stop eating. My wife wisely opted for the entree sized portion of her seafood pasta. The food wasn't just huge though. It was tasty and we'll made too. Service was fast and friendly despite the crowds. If you are looking for somewhere for an intimate dinner for two, this is not your place. If you want somewhere to bring a group, or a bunch of hungry teenagers, this is the place to go.

A very nice meal so long as your willing to wait for it. A family of 5 arrived and was instantly…read moreseated and offered drinks. Great start. Then after a short time our order was taken and shortly after that my children's pizza was served. But then it took another 30 minutes to get our pasta meals. When the meals finally arrived there was no apologises. It must be a standard. The meal was delicious. There was plenty of staff and the place was about 2/3 full.

If you're making the great ocean drive and staying a night or two - there's a good chance that…read moreyou're staying in Port Campbell. Nico's Pizza is one of the dining in options in Port Campbell and serves both pizza and pasta. The pizzas aren't very large - i would say the large pizza feeds up to 2 and cost anywhere from $20-$30 a pie. I had the vegetarian pizza and the Hawaiian along with the spaghetti and a white pasta. Non of the four were excellent. I would say the pizza and pasta lacked flavor and were okay at best but the location of Nico's was convenient for visitors staying in Port Campbell.

There weren't very many options but our Airbnb host left us with a small list of places to check out. Nico's was one of them for pizza and pasta. Small cute little restaurant next to the supermarket in town! I liked the quaint atmosphere, very intimate and romantic for a small town restaurant! We ordered take-away pizzas and pastas, then went next door to do some grocery shopping for the night! Our order was ready when we were done, about 15-20 mins later! The food came out hot! You can feel the hot pizzas through the take-away boxes! Though the large pizzas were pretty darn small - you'd probably call them personal pizzas in the states, maybe slightly bigger! Lol! Oh the gluttony! I still stick to my original opinion that none of the pizza I had in Australia was any good - this one wasn't any different. I'm not sure what it is but they didn't hit the spot. Not enough cheese, the toppings?! I have no clue! But I think frozen pizzas in the states taste way better! Maybe it's just not as greasy?! The pastas weren't any better - they were just pasta dishes that you could get from a fast food joint. Nothing to rave about, nothing special.. the carbonara was maybe a little more flavorful than the spaghetti though cause of the cream sauce and bacon! Can't say I'd recommend this place or come back! They have a freezer up front with gelato as well!
