We went all in on the spice: spicy beef combo (level 2), lettuce stem salad (level 1), and the Yunnan-style spicy & sour papaya fish soup (level 1). The soup was hands down my favorit. That perfect spicy + sour combo just hits different. You need to get a sweet drinks to go with the spicy! An automatic 18% tip is added to the bill, but the waiter are very nice and let us know about it. They also helped with packing the leftover food. read more

All the dishes we ordered were really, really good. Full of strong tasty flavor, and goes really well with lots of rice. We ordered: My favorite was spicy beef combination in steel pot. It contains beef tripe, sirloin, and cow louver: 5/5 Shredded cabbage with sliced pork:5/5 Chicken Soup w. Wild Fungi in Yunnan Steam Pot: 4/5 less strong flavor but very warm and comforting Black bone chicken with chili and lemon 4/5. Special to yunnan tribe. The menu is smaller than the other Fremont store and serves Szechuan and Yunnan specialties. The interior decor is simplistic and has a separate private room that hold two large table. TLDR: Spicy Place. Very Traditional Chinese. I think if you like spicy Chinese food, this place would probably be 5 stars. As my wife and I can't really handle spiciness, we are unable to appreciate the quality and flavor of the spice. But that being said, she really enjoyed the non-spicy dish that she ordered. It's a cabbage and pork dish, which could be ordered non-spicy. It was full of flavor, salty, a bit of oil, and some umami in there as well. I don't like vegetables (I just eat it for my butt's sake), and I couldn't stop myself from eating it. We tried to order a rice noodle dish (Mifen) with minimal minimal spice. I could handle it, but my wife couldn't. I'm man enough to admit... I coughed a bit... and drank a LOT of water. What my wife could taste of the dish, she thought the noodles were cooked very well. Al-Dente. I managed to finish the rest of it, mostly by picking out all the red seeds I could and downing half the water. Oh, btw, I should mention... the Menu is online. And completely in Chinese. So... if you can't read chinese, make sure to bring someone who likes spicy and can. Wait staff was pretty friendly as well. Although they did give us our bill a bit early because they were going on their lunch break. We didn't really go that late... maybe 1:15 or so. It was pretty empty by the time we went, maybe 4 tables or so? Also... if you download their app and make a comment or something, you get a free tamarind sparking water. It was pretty good to douse the FIRE in my mouth. Will we go back? Unfortunately no, but not because of the quality or service or anything. Food was great. Tried several dishes at Ping's and they ranged from pretty good to fantastic. The spicy cold eggplant was a revelation. I've never had anything like it and the flavor balance was perfect. One of the best eggplant dishes I've ever had. The seasonal fried rice was also spot on, fluffy and flavorful and it used a lot of unique ingredients I have not had in fried rice before. The pork with pumpkin was a bit salty, but still satisfying with rice. The BBQ fish was perhaps a bit overly blackened at the edges which gave it a slightly bitter flavor, but overall it was still tasty. Would definitely come back. I'm so disappointed in myself for not taking photos but that just means I'll have to come back again! I've been to both locations a numerous amount of times and absolutely love all their dishes. This location definitely specializes more in Yunnan cuisine compared to original location. I highly recommend you try any of their dishes and you won't be disappointed. The dishes are cooked so well with varying levels of spice. You can order via QR code and the dishes come out very fast. The staff are very helpful and attentive as needed. Our favorite dish this visit was the Yunnan Small Pot Rice Noodles and the Fried Pork appetizer. It was incredibly delicious and I am never disappointed when I visit any of their locations. The owner opened two Ping's bistro stores in Fremont, and we went to the newer one that just released some new dishes featuring Yun Nan cuisine. Everything was fantastic tbh, great flavors, different layers of textures, and very friendly service. My favorite dish was sautéed lotus rootlet, and it's my first time having lotus rootlet. I really liked the texture. It's much crispier than the regular lotus root slice's texture. With a little bit spicy flavor, I couldn't stop eating it! read more

Food was delicious! The portions are very big. I had the pickled fish soup, that could have easily fed four people with maybe another side dish. I loved the decor and set up. It's more upscale than the traditional Asian restaurants, which was a nice surprise. As I was driving there I thought I may have been in the wrong place as it's in a small plaza in a very quiet area. The wait staff were nice but would have been nice if they had stopped by to check on us a little bit more. Was hard to flag them down. You order through a QR code and food came steadily from the kitchen. There were so many delicious dishes and I highly recommend the mashed potatoes! It is not like mashed potatoes in western cuisine, give it a try and experience the difference. The potato salad, fried rice, fish and other dishes were yummy as well. There's a Yunnan emphasis / influence on the dishes here, and my husband's family friends from Yunnan feel the food is pretty authentic. With our large party and the large portions of food, we quickly ran out of table space. The wait staff were timely in transferring food to smaller dishes as we ate to make room for other dishes rolling out of the kitchen. There's a good amount of parking in the complex. I noticed the menu has changed slightly as well which is good so that there are new dishes to try. Some dishes I recommend: Braised pork belly with blaze mushroom. Very tender pork belly and went well with mushroom,very flavorful. Sauteed eggplant with string beans: tasted soooo good, didn't expect a vegetable dish to be so delicious, very flavorful too Shredded cabbage with pork: Stew rice with ham sausage seasonal greens: it's a big pot of rice to share, a bit pricey but delicious. Not sure why the reviews for this place is so low, but it's actually an excellent restaurant! It's a newly furnished place at one of the newer plazas in Warm Springs. They only had indoor seating, but it's a nice and modern place. This place serve food that's more of Hunan and Sichuan style. For the main entrees, we got the Spicy Sliced Angus Beef in Steel Pot for $21 and the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus for $18. The online ordering system is really easy to use and convenient to place your orders. The spicy beef came with a bed of peppercorn and dried peppers, and it can definitely numb your mouth and make you sweat. I usually have a good spice tolerance, but it took me a while to get over the numbing sensation from the peppercorn. It definitely fulfilled my crave for spicy food, so I still enjoyed it very much. However, the item that really stood out here was the baked purple yam topped with cheese ($6.99)! This was like the perfect combo of savory cheese over sweet, mushy purple yam - it's literally two of my all-time favorite items combined into one dessert. I think this Warm Springs' location of Ping's is the only one that has this dessert, so I highly highly recommend everyone to try it out. read more

Place is equipped with leather booths, standalone tables and larger tables for the big companies. Excellent service although not too many personnel speak English. Get your interpreter on the way there. Would highly recommend to try Sliced Pork In Spicy Garlic Sauce for $9.99 as well as Live Fish in house special spice soup $39.00. When I used to live in Fremont, I would go to the other Ping's bistro. Recently, there has been a lot of hype about Yunnan cuisine here. As a Yunnanese, I couldn't resist giving it a try. Service: Pretty good, attentive and efficient, with courteous service. At the next table, a glass was broken, and immediately four servers came to clean up the mess. Thumbs up for that. Menu: For those who don't know, this restaurant is affiliated with Hunan Impressions and Shang Cafe, so they have many Sichuan and Hunan dishes that are the same. Then I saw their new Yunnan cuisine menu, and as a person from Yunnan, I had some doubts because many of the dishes weren't actually Yunnan cuisine. Chili Eggplant 7/10: A classic Hunan dish. However, here it's more like cold tossed eggplant. The chili used is facing heaven chili, lacking the fragrant aroma of roasted chili. I think the taste was okay Steamed Pork with Rice Flour 8.5/10 Another classic Hunan dish. Hunan version is known for its five-spice flavor. They did a good job here, with the pork belly being fatty and tender, but it was nicely balanced by the sweet potatoes. Preserved Mustard Greens and Pig's Fee 7/10: It's a signature dish from the chain , and we always order it. The taste and everything else were quite good. However, today the pig's feet were slightly undercooked. A small disappointment. Yunnan Braised Chicken in Oil: First of all, as a person from Yunnan, I've never seen this dish. In terms of flavor, it's like braised chicken with mashed potatoes, and the initial taste was not bad. However, it became increasingly salty and oily the more we ate, making it hard to continue. Also, the chicken portion was not generous, but there were plenty of potatoes. It was just too salty and oily. Cheese Baked Pumpkin: It's not bad, but it's not Yunnan cuisine. Moreover, it's the kind of dish where anyone with basic skills can make it by layering canned pumpkin and sprinkling cheese on top before baking. I don't recommend it. Osmanthus Rice Cake: It's not bad, but it's also not Yunnan cuisine. It's just a steamed cake made with white sugar, with a sprinkling of osmanthus. I don't recommend it either. In summary, Ping's bistro is known for its Hunan cuisine in the Bay Area, and their food and service are still good. However, they should probably stay away from Yunnan cuisine. Nice and Spicy! Pings Bistro is a great place for groups and date nights. You and the boys can eat all day and have beers. Perfect beer food honestly. If you'd like to try as much as you can, it's always nice to bring some company to split the bill. A must try is the Hunan style sautéed beef and the pork intestines. Its perfect to top your rice as you eat. I really enjoy all the peppers and flavor in the intestines. It's nice and crispy and the pot stays hot throughout. You can change the level of spice if you want to tone it down. The croaker was nice and crispy. The fried garlic bits on top were nice and crunchy. I think if I would have had this earlier I would have enjoyed it more. The eggplant with green beans is tasty! It hit the spot for your veggie needs. Come and try it out! Came in on a Thursday afternoon around 12:30pm. My boyfriend and I were seated immediately and ordered according to the scanned QR code. I noticed most of the menu items were spicy foods containing either Kala spice or what looked like serrano peppers. Unfortunately, my boyfriend has low spice tolerance so we chose to stick with less spicy options. We initially ordered the fried pork and house special braised pork bowl. These items came out quickly. The fried pork was very airy and crispy with a slight numbing spice powder on the side. Very yummy. The house special braised pork was extremely tender and flavorful. They had pickled lettuce as well that was not too sour, but not too salty either. Overall, quite enjoyable. After this, we decided to share their Osmanthus Honey Milk Jelly w/ Fermented Rice. . . . . It came out soon after we ordered it and got nervous when we smelled the dessert because the fermented rice on top smelled very much like rice wine, and we thought maybe the whole dessert was filled with alcohol. My boyfriend took the first bite and I couldn't tell his expression on his face if he liked it or not. I took a try and immediately realized he loved it. Even with the fermented rice on top, the dessert itself was very light on the alcohol taste. It reminded me of a panna cotta with its rich heavy cream taste, but in this case, the dessert was extremely light and refreshing to eat after our meal. Definitely the star of our meal there. Located in a middle of nowhere strip mall. Very good spicy food, the spicy cold noodle with mushroom, black chicken with lime were my favorite. Spicy beef tripe,louver, sirloin was fine, I would like it a bit more tender. Mushroom fry rice was nice but a bit too greasy. Service was very good, always someone there when you need. Left over packing all done by servers. The only thing I don't like here were the greasy floor, I hate when you can slide your feet back and forth without lifting it. Most spicy Chinese restaurants tend to do that likely because a lot of the spicy hot flavor came from hot oil and that smoke with oil travel and sink to surface and stick. First of all, we tip 15% of the total price before tax. More importantly, we received no service except getting our dishes. That female waitress made a loud noise when she put down the glasses of water which was really disrespectful in my opinion. First time at Ping's second location! Learnt that Ping's and Shang Cafe (my favorite Sichuan spot in all of the Bay) have the same owner. Came here for the newly introduced and exclusively located Hunan-style rice noodles. Our order: clams + rice noodles, spicy beef bone + rice noodles, sautéed chicken gizzards. The clams were as advertised - clean, fresh and meaty and definitely the highlight of the bowl! Just a tad of kick in my mouth and the perfect amount of spicy for me. Light but flavorful broth nicely bound the rice noodles and clams. The restaurant sells the sautéed clams as a stand-alone dish and it's a good bang-for-your-buck. Proceed with caution if you order the spicy beef bone rice noodles - it is delicious but not for the faint of heart. The sautéed chicken gizzards were somewhat underwhelming. I couldn't decide if the green beans needed further fermentation or if the flavor just didn't infuse well into the gizzards. Ping's (and its sister restaurants) have always had attentive and courteous service. I hope that the owner considers opening a location or two in Contra Costa. read more

This is the second Ping's Bistro in Fremont, but it's my first "visit" to either one. Decided to order some take-out after receiving a flyer in the mail with pictures of tempting Hunan dishes. It was a little tricky finding their website, but finally found it via Googlemaps. Ordering online was very easy, and I chose the option to prepay via Venmo to avoid contact when I pick up my order. I get texts telling me when they're processing my order, and again when my order is ready. The food is well packed and still warm when I get home. Everything was really fresh, delicious, and very spicy! I like spicy food, but this is almost at my limit. The food is definitely a bit more elevated than your average Chinese restaurant, but the prices are pretty reasonable. There are a few specialty dishes that are a bit pricier. What we ordered: + Sauteed fish fillet with tomato - my favorite. The fish is flaky, soft, and fresh. The tomato sauce was really, really tasty. This dish was not spicy. Oh, and this dish was only $5 with a $39+ order. + Hunan style sautéed beef - Oh my, this was spicy! It was good, but a bit over my spice level. + House special fried rice with smoked pork - Perfectly cooked fried rice with a smoky flavor. So good that I forgive the Birds Eye-ques veggies :) + Organic cauliflower with pork crackling - Very fresh cauliflower. The pork crackling (fried pork rinds) were kinda addicting. 3.5 Stars Overall 5-Stars for the Pig's Feet; 3-Stars for Service Food matters, service matters and at the end of the day, money always matters! No matter how good the food is, service makes a difference, at least in my book. You're paying for an all around experience whether you're dining in or out or just getting take out. The good? The Pig's Feet here is awesome! I'll give them that. They're perfectly braised and tender with just the right amount of bite to it. And not one stray of prickly hair still attached to the skin, which inevitably you always find. It has just the right amount of spice and flavor without being salty. This was really good!! But service? Nah. I really left feeling like they could care less about your business, which is pretty surprising and odd for a new restaurant (second location for Ping's in Fremont) opening up during the pandemic. No excuses for being overly busy, since there was only one Dasher waiting for a pick-up. I'd say that most people would interpret the flippant service I received as being borderline rude. I normally rank food above service, but when I experience an obvious outlier like this, it really stands out and not in a good way. As I was sitting there waiting for my order today, the logical voice inside me kept repeating "What the heck am I doing spending my hard earned money here???" That's NOT a good feeling! No indoor or outdoor seating, except for one filthy table that looked like it's for employees with cigarette butts in a takeout container. Delivery is where it looks like the action is, since it's located in a low-trafficked business area. At $18.99 ($20.75 with tax), the Pig's Feet is on the pricier side, but I wouldn't mind so much if it was served with merely just polite service and a pleasant demeanor. Again, I enjoyed the Pig's Feet, but when I'm spending my hard earned money on someplace and not feeling good about it overall, it doesn't make me want to return anytime soon. My preferences are usually soup or sauced-based dishes. Noodles, mini-hotpot, etc. are good choices. It seems like only locals know about this spot because it's so hidden but it was incredibly busy on a Saturday night. Each dish was a heaping portion of oily, spicy goodness and cooked to perfection. This is what our table ordered. - braised pork belly (fatty, tender, and delicious with the buns) - fried lotus root with beef (crunchy and spicy) - napa cabbage (cooked very well! had the ma la spice) - mochi sesame dessert (so chewy and nutty) I did take off one star because it was a bit too greasy for my liking and the price point is a bit expensive especially for chinese food. This was enough food for two people with a little leftover depending on your appetite. The small strip mall wasn't full and parking was accessible for lunch. The beef dish had great mala flavor and was filled with thin sliced beef, loofah, onion, potato and lotus root. The crispy pork was flavorful and tender, it also included a side of numbing chili flake to dip. The prices were a little steeper than average, but to be honest everything has been going up due to inflation, and a full meal for $25 at a sit down restaurant for lunch after tip had become the norm. read more

Awesome to see one of my family's favorite Hunan restaurants open another location in Fremont. We used to go to Ping's Bistro in North Fremont all the time, but this location is much closer to us! The dishes are all super flavorful - they certainly don't skimp on the seasoning! Prices are a bit higher than many Chinese restaurants in the area, but the portion sizes and the vibes make up for it. You can expect to spend about $25-35 pp for food, which is pretty reasonable for a higher end Chinese restaurant. We felt like the portion sizes (and hence, the value) in the old Ping's Bistro location significantly reduced over time. I'm hoping the portion-size to price ratios in this location stay consistent over time and this isn't a short-term thing to help with reviews. read more
