My kid's strongest and deepest friendships originated at Ms. Tara's. Making friends and learning basic skills really helped prepare them for elementary school. Play and discovery are the guiding principles of each day. Tara and the other teachers are lovely people who nurture kids' curiosity and help cultivate strong social skills. We toured three other childcare programs in North Seattle and nothing really felt like a good fit until we found Wedgwood Montessori. When we arrived at Wedgwood to tour, Chris let us sit in and observe the classroom. Chris is a natural teacher. He speaks to the children with respect and enthusiasm. The kids were encouraged to explore, but also understood what was expected of them. We knew very quickly that this was the kind of environment we wanted our child to experience. This school feels like a community invested in developing kind children. Additionally, our child has, within a timespan of a couple months, learned to write her name and almost every letter of the alphabet. She is truly happy and learning at Wedgwood Montessori. Some preschools strike me as chaotic, while others seem a bit too library-like; I think Northwest Montessori strikes a thoughtful balance between academic learning and play, ensuring a structured yet lively classroom environment. We've seen our kids develop a broad range of skills--motor, executive function, literacy, math, creativity--within a highly cooperative setting, and they have of course made many close friends. I also think that the Northwest Montessori team is deeply committed to INCLUSION, embracing children of all backgrounds and needs including neurodiverse learners. I've always felt that every staff member at NWM, from teachers to administrators, is dedicated to creating a space where each child feels at home and can reach their fullest potential. The Wedgwood campus has three classrooms, each mixed-age from 2.5yo to 6yo (thru Kindergarten). But my outgoing and independent kid also declared it the "best school ever" and wishes we could go every day. The range of activities for kids to do keeps them thoroughly engaged as they play and learn. There is a great balance of free play time, outdoor time, and more structured circle time. Snack is also done in a way that lets kids be independent while getting the support they need. And often there is a 'cooking snack' that they get to participate in preparing - they love that! I'm always amazed by how creative and fun the activities are. It's never just pages photocopied out of a coloring book. And there is always something new to try. I'm not sure how they come up with all their ideas but I'm sure glad they get to do all those cool messy things at school and I don't have to do them at home! The best part of coop are the teachers and parent educators. You see right away that this is a passion for them, not just a job. The kids and parents immediately feel that they care about them and that they are in a supportive, safe environment. Coop follows a positive discipline method that gently guides kids to expected behaviors in a way that is always developmentally appropriate. Teacher Christi is an actual child whisperer. She leads them effortlessly and cheerfully, never raising her voice or showing any signs of irritation. She is endlessly patient and understanding and manages to be simultaneously sweet and firm when it's necessary. I honestly wish she could be my kids' teacher for as long as they're in school! Great teachers, horrible leadership, bad atmosphere.

We love the warm, welcoming, inclusive community from the parents to the teachers to the staff. Classes are a great size, only 1 class per grade, with 2 teachers per class pre-school through 2nd grade. We are so fortunate for the before and after care program (called xcare), which also hosts full day summer camp. For 2 full time working parents, we wouldn't be able to make it work without xcare. The academic curriculum is top notch and well rounded from the Slingerland reading program to their math and science courses to a focus on the Arts (language, visual, music). Our Spanish program makes it fun for the kids to learn. The full time counselor focuses on the kids social and emotional growth, while there is a focus on bringing Catholic social teaching to life via numerous volunteering opportunities. Our Lady of the Lake is not just our school, it's our family!

We enrolled him for three days a week, but after a little over a week in, it became clear it wasn't a good fit. There were different teachers there each of the days that he attended. It seemed more like a "daycare" experience than a preschool one. I was really hoping he would have the same teacher every day. When we toured earlier in the spring we were definitely given the impression there would be continuity. We had some other concerns as well and when I emailed Lan with my concerns I did not hear back. I decided that since I did not hear back we would withdraw my son and I emailed Lan to let her know this, again with no response. Two weeks later she emailed me asking whether my son was going to attend the school since he had not been. It seems extremely disorganized. His previous school would email me after one day (not 2+ weeks) of missed class to check-in. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with this school.
