I wish someone had written the following review before I moved into this expensive dump…read more You can choose to heed my warnings or not but know everything I write here is true. I lived here over three years mainly because it is such a hassle to move, which they count on as they significantly raise your rent year after year. The owners care only about money-know that going in for it will be a problem for you at some point. You may want to have a Lawyer on call. You will pay top-dollar and get almost nothing: * NO carport (winters are brutal every day), * NO central air conditioning (up and down turning the wall unit on/off), * NO central heating (Good luck on the base-board heat, Oh, you will love the loud sucking sound that comes from the incredibly old heating building boiler), * NO balconies on the majority of units, * NO security cameras, * NO fencing barriers around the back (a neighbor had his car broken into; mine was 'keyed.') * NO decent parking lot (You will love when it rains), * NO workout facility * NO umbrellas, shade, or tables at the pool! However, for your top-dollar you will get: * A building front door slamming open and shut every day starting at 5:30 AM for dogs, * Nobody picking up after those dogs, * If you like ants, there is plenty of them in the summer regardless of which floor you are on, * If you want bees inside, you get them too. The buildings are ancient, and it looks and feels it. Lobby carpeting dirty, doors to the buildings falling apart. The apartments are painfully old, the maintenance people are good but I know they are instructed to fix things as cheaply as possible, and hopefully, you like the music your neighbor is playing because you'll hear it all the time. Wait until you see the ridiculous FEE FOR PAYING THEM THEIR RENT ONLINE! Yes, you read that right. They took out the rent drop-off slot to try and get you to pay a late penalty or pay the online fee, which is my guess. And they won't tell you, but they also have a section 8 low-income federal housing there too they try and 'hide.' You will be paying for that too, one way or another. I have never met more contemptible, cheap, rotten people that own this real-estate. They tried to sell it last year but could not. Ask yourself why? The property manager is good, but she has to get everything approved by the owners-and they support nothing that would be in your favor. There are so many other choices to live at, in, and around the same location that is so much better and LESS EXPENSIVE! I have never been happier since I moved from that dump, and I am in a great location, great apartment & owners, and much less expensive! Heed my warnings or not, as stated, I wish someone had warned me.

The apartment complex is clean and the maintenance manager is a good guy that does his job; but in…read morethe end, I have to give this complex a very negative review because I feel they've stolen money from me. I left my apartment in a great shape with zero damage. Short story: the property manager assured me that there would be no problem breaking my lease if I gave her notice. I gave her extra notice, but then she failed to rent the apartment so I did the right thin. I kept paying rent after vacating the property. A deal is a deal...right? I honored my contract, but then i learned that they had actually rented the apartment. I attempted to contact this same property manager at least 5 times by email and by phone. She was almost impossible to track down, but eventually she promised in writing to send a check to compensate for new tenants moving in. Months went by without any check and then after 5 more times plus of attempting to contact her by email and then her supervisor, they mysteriously they eventually went back on their promise and tried to tell me I still owed them more. What a sketch organization in how they handled this situation. My rent was paid in full on time every month. When it was time for the complex to respond in kind and take care of business, they didn't respond and ultimately with-held money that they should have graciously and professionally returned. Here's my message to the manager and her boss at the Crystal Lake's Complex, "Just do the right thing!" Would that have been better than having this kind of feedback out on the web? Don't make promises that you can't keep and then later take some weak ass legalistic position when you've messed up mistakenly setting expectations incorrectly. Admit your mistake. Apologize and then be professional when clients are dealing with you in a civil way. Email and call people back in a reasonable amount of time. I'm sure you don't like having to chase renters down for rent money, so why in your minds is it acceptable to make them chase you down? And although I'm extremely unhappy with how you treated me, I do apologize for publishing your names in full which I was unaware is against Yelp guidelines. This is an attractive and well kept complex managed by some questionable people.

Having lived here for 4 years, I wish I could find *something* positive to say about the…read moremaintenance here. I can't. Last year, an upstairs leak, which resulted in a ceiling hole in my bathroom, took over half a year to be resolved- during which time a mold problem had started. While their contractor did finally stop the leak and repair the ceiling, that mold can still be smelled in my coat closet, which is adjacent to the bathroom (the cleanout hatch is located there). This should have been serviced immediately after being reported, but wasn't. At this writing (February 2025), the heat has gone out 6 times in a 3 week period. Repeated work requests for this issue have been closed out as "completed", and phone calls to the office were responded to with "we're waiting for a part". This repeated excuse makes one wonder if the "parts" are coming from Fisher Price. It should noted that my unit is in the same building as the Leasing Office, so one would think that having working heat in the building where potential future residents are applying for a lease MIGHT be a priority. Apparently not. The same building has NO working locks on the exterior doors, other than to the Leasing office. An intercom and buzzer system is in each apartment, but does nothing. If one is considering Waterford Square because of the pictures of the pool and hot tub on their web site, please be aware the pool has only opened in mid-July and closed VERY promptly on Labor Day since 2021. During that time period, the hot tub has never opened. Last year, the M. Shapiro company took over management of Waterford Square from Ressco, which gave a brief moment of hope to the residents here. Unfortunately, they have not re-trained, replaced or outsourced the existing staff, which they desperately need to do for any improvement to happen here. Apply and move here at your own risk.
