Very seriously: IF YOU ARE IN ALICANTE, Make SURE YOU EAT HERE!!!!…read more This is one of the places in the world where every simple aspect of what makes a restaurant work is perfectly taken care of, and is well assembled with the others. 1. Space 2. Service 3. Food 4. City 1. SPACE. 5 stars Nou Manolin is located in a beautiful and lively part of Alicante's historical center. On the ground floor, a large (and yet intimate) square bar occupies the entire floor. This is a bar where customers sit on a first come first served dynamic. Here you can informally eat out of tapas, that are served in a gracious and fun way. It is totally unpretentious, and totally sophisticated. This hall could not be more beautiful. No one single testaurant-Indra cliche to be found here. All pure eclecticism that reveals the long term existence of the establishment. So beautiful! The upper floor is more of a table serviced restaurant, beautifully decorated in a Mediterranean-design style, and with great care for impecable acoustics. The ceiling is made of a series of John Soane-like wooden domes, made to reduce sound reflection. Such a nice way to focus on the invisible part of design, so important to make a place the right place for a memorable dinner or lunch. 2. SERVICE. 5 stars This place másters a unique combination of professionalism and know-how with warmness and lack of pompousness. The result is truly nice. You truly feel welcomed here. And feels like being in the center of the world. . At the same time you feel the enthusiasm for food and wine. No way to resist. With this service: You will automatically become a believer in the power of Alicante's gastronomy . 3. FOOD. 5 stars. Now we get serious. The best tapas!!! The marinera is the best. Amazing fresh seafood. The bacalao buñuelos are a gastronomic chapter on its own. But above all that: do not miss the fideuá. This is the best fideuás I ever had. The fideo is soft and crispy. The flavors are intense and with a bit of a good-olive-oil- bitterness. The food here is indescribable. Just come to taste it. 4. CITY. 5 stars. Something needs to be said about this city Alicante that has beautifully managed to show how to be coastal and urban in a beautiful and meaningful way. But please, keep it secret; we don't want this to become a tourist mess like Barcelona. Ultimately, just come here.

This is really a cop out since it requires no cooking or creativity. Others at the table reported that the fish and meat courses were good. This place would compete superbly in SF or NYC any day. Burgers. The best. Period. I don't have burgers this tasty and well-balanced anywhere in California. Knowing the owner here since the opening a few years ago, the meat is double ground daily and cooked to order; I recommend medium-rare or a bit less ("a punto" or "poco menos de punto" in Spanish). For burger connoisseurs, I can attest to the bun's quality and pairing with the burger. The Liberty Burger is classic, with cheese and bacon plus freshies, but any of the rotating inventions (the Frenchie, the Alpine) are perfect for adventurous dining nights. Burgers don't come with fries, but you don't need em. The LK also has one of the best selections of beer, from small brewers of many countries. TIP: make a reservation, you absolutely need it. You can do it through a Facebook message on their FB page. Extra TIP: if you come right after opening, you may be able to get bar seating for 2 or 3. Besides burgers, anything else I've had was either excellent or at least way above average (using American American food standards). Service is fantastic. All the good parts of American attentive service without being overbearing.

Unlike what I had in Madrid or New York, they don't mix chicken and seafood in Alicante and Valencia. I told the owner that her food is better than that in Jose Andres' Mercado Little Spain in Hudson Yards, and Angelita was very pleased. But I am sincere. La Tartana prepares arroz for individual groups, while paella in Mercado Little Spain is for the mass. Also I was told that water in Alicante is suitable for arroz. Angelita invited us to see the kitchen, and I was amazed by the operation. It was run by her, her husband, and three sisters. The kitchen is very clean, cleaner than mine where I don't even cook! She explained to us different broths and cookware for various arroz. Her sisters said that it's hotter than 40 degree celsius, or 105 Ferenheit. I could feel it. The family certainly takes pride in their food. I told them that I would return to Alicante just for la Tartana''s delicious arroz, and I certainly will.
