Pin Mill is a hamlet on the river Orwell, perhaps 10mins drive from Ipswich.
A dominant feature of the hamlet is the Butt & Oyster pub which is literally on the side of the river (the Orwell is tidal, and when the tide comes in, the river laps against the building).
Starting from the pub, you can walk back towards Ipswich or out towards Shotley (if the tide is out).
The walk towards Ipswich takes you towards the impressive Orwell Bridge (A14) and is a lovely stroll along the river, passing through fields and coutryside.
The walk is also suitable for you to let your dog off the lead, providing it is well behaved - and you're not too worried about them jumping in the river (esp. if it is a labrador!)
You can practically walk for miles before you have to turn around, so it is a walk that caters for the quick 20min excercise or a longer, more serious walk. read more
