We were greeted by so many friendly people. It was an "ahhh" type of relief moment. The oppression in NE can be lifted if there were more churches like this one. Too many dead churches out here that are too inwardly focused, all about numbers and money. Faith Tabernacle was well worth the hour drive.

This year, for the first time, my dining partner has limited mobility issues. There was ONE handicap parking space [we had our placard] so we parked not on the street as usual but in the big lot down the hill behind the church. We had to go through the back of the hall with no directional signs, go down and then up stairs both inside and outside. When we left I retrieved the car and met her upstairs on the road. With the exception of one local gentleman, no one seemed to be able to give directions or help. Guess I have to check it up to old age!

I always try to make this Greek Festival once a year and I am never disappointed at the food…read morequality, especially the braised lamb shank as well as all the other Greek household dishes you would expect to find. There are two buffet lines under the tent and service is generally pretty quick. Greek Wine and local tap beer from Opa Opa are available as well. Inside in the main hall is the dessert area filled with all your Greek favorites as well as items you no doubt have never heard of or seen before. There is another bar set up inside or if you wish coffee is available. I sometimes hear complaints that the prices are high, more so for the entree items than the desserts, remember this is a fund raiser for the church, a very good cause. So next year the first weekend in June make it a point to come to St George's for fun, food, dance and entertainment you won't be disappointed. You can even come for lunch on that Friday if you work near by.

The rabbi, who is now on leave I do believe, was incredibly welcoming to the boyfriend and I on our first several visits. New faces are always exciting for frequent goers, but the treatment we got was what I hope for when heading to new synagogues. I'm not big on guitars or organs, so those are the few things that I'm not big on at this shul. The High Holidays services were wonderful, excepting for some curious musical choices at times. I try to avoid the guitar-style services because it's a little too new-age for me, and it works out well. If you're looking for a nice, cozy place with beautiful artwork and a welcoming, friendly community, then Emanuel is probably right up your alley.

When I went to college I continued the trend and went every Friday night to services at our Hillel. After college I tried a couple of places but never found somewhere I felt comfortable. Recently after years of not going, I decided to try Emanuel, and I loved it. The Rabbi is extremely nice and the building is beautiful. This is a place I definitely felt comfortable. The Rabbi one of the first times me and my girlfriend went in there asked us if we had somewhere to go to for the High Holidays, which I did not. He said that if we wanted to, to call the office on Monday and tell them to give us two passes for services and we are more than welcome as his guest, which we took him up on. Unfortunately I was unable to make Rosh Hashana service, but when we went for Yom Kippur it was very nice. The cantor did a great job and the envirnment was great and what I was used to.
