We were visiting from out of town, and after a previously bad haircut at the salon we previously went to, decided to take my son here after seeing decent ratings on yelp. It was crowded when we got there, so we figured it had a decent clientele at least. The lady who cut my son's hair wasn't the warmest, but we didn't mind being that it takes under 5 mins for the cut. Despite him sitting as still as you can ask a toddler to sit, this is what his hair looked like when we returned home . It was completely choppy and uneven with long scraggly hairs sticking out all over. I even pointed out a few of the problem areas so that she could attempt to fix it. We ended up having to use my husband's beard trimmer to fix and even outt what we possibly could. Needless to say, we will not be returning. read more

Never again. They butchered my sons hair. We were literally the only clients there, I have no idea why the woman needed to get it all done in less than 4 minutes. It looked like she was shaving my dog with the amount of carelessness and hurried ness in which she was using the clippers. And then the cut on the top was SO choppy, uneven and had pieces sticking everywhere. His bangs were completely cut straight across making him look like someone gave him blunt bangs. I paid $25 + a $10 tip because I'm not a dick but wow I wish I could take it back. $35 total for me to come home and completely shave his head. read more

they overbooked my appt, the woman butchered my kids hair and she complained the whole time about how tired she was. the place was not clean, hair was everywhere and bits of lollipop wrappers all over the floor. it was extremely hot and not organized at all. I'm a mom of two girl and this place is a kids paradise and has suited our needs for a while. We came her initially for their "first haircut package" where they took a picture, gave me some of her clippings to save and ended with a toy and lollipop. My girls love their train tables and I love the TV's at each station. What a perfect way to get your kid to look up by telling them to watch the cartoon! I've definitely had to wait on busy Saturday's but that should be expected. I will say I'm not usually looking for a spa quality haircut when I go here. It's more for younger kids, and difficult kids that have trouble getting their hair cut. I've never had a complaint though, my girls ends always get trimmed as evenly as possible. I took both of my daughters to get their haircut yesterday. My oldest daughters hair was very long, she cut where I told her to. I asked her to give her bangs too. Well. These are thee choppiest bangs I've ever seen. They don't blend at all. My youngest daughter just needed a trim and to shape her hair up so it wasn't a mullet. She literally cut maybe a centimeter off. Both of their haircuts took about 6min total and it was $38! I got home, pulled my oldests hair in front and one side was longer than the other! I'm so irritated. I checked to see if I can come back thIs morning and get it fixed, it's the same girl working. I'm not going back. I will go spend my money somewhere else so my daughters hair can be fixed properly. This was our second time going there and will be our last. I wish I read other reviews before we went. Also, working the front desk, was maybe a 16yr old, which I have nothing against, but she had no personality and wasn't very helpful. I asked when they opened and she leaned over to read the hours off of the door. The manager needs to train these people better, it's insane how awful of an experience we had. Not impressed. Do yourself and your child a favor, go somewhere else for a haircut. read more

Both times I've come here I've loved the atmosphere, the friendliness, the price ($16 bucks for a boys haircut) and the speed. I usually come in the middle of the weekday and it's usually empty. The seats are little vehicles (like police cars and fire engines) and they have big screen TV's right near the mirror so kids can be distracted by the TV when they get their haircuts. The stylists are obviously very kid friendly and know how to work with them. There are also train tables and toys out for kids if there did end up being a wait. This is the perfect place for kids to come to get their hair cut and I will definitely return. So why only four stars? Both times, I haven't actually loved the haircut. They get it close to what I'm asking for, and they certainly don't do a bad job, but it's never quite what I want. So four stars for you, pigtails and crewcuts. read more

I've been to this location twice, the 1st time we went to trim my kids hair and it was a bad haircut. Went back the following day so they could fix it and ended up with a super short hair cut that really wasn't great at all. My little one walked in with long hair and left with super short hair. Wasn't happy at all with the two girls who cut his hair. They were different ladies. There was no comment from them about us having to drive out there the 2nd time at all. The place is beautiful and my kid loves the train table but that's all. Been to many kid hair places and this is not one I'll go back to. The 1st lady wasn't really what you'd call "good with kids" either, at least not with mine. Unfortunate because there aren't that many places like this around here so too bad for us. read more

My daughter has never had a haircut before (she's 3), so we took her today for the first time after meeting friends at Hutch. We figured we'd walk over and let her experience a 'salon' that was catered to kids. The staff was not very helpful, kind of standoffish and considering they work with kids a little rude. Seriously, picked up my kid, put her in the chair and said "so what do you want to do" - never once did they speak to my daughter, ask her questions like "first haircut, are you excited." After she cut the back of my daughter's hair, she says "oh, the sides are shorter, ummm... " I then (scared she might cut the back to match the front) I say "just trim at an angle so it blends in." I'm not sure if the B team works on the weekends or everyone was having a bad day, but nobody was friendly. After the 2 minute trim, we hoped down and paid the outrageous prices! It wasn't until I checked yelp - was I informed they had a "first haircut package" - Sad and disappointed experience. We won't be going back. read more

Its always been pretty hit or miss for me here. My son has gotten some decent hair cuts, but also has gotten some really bad ones... one was so bad I had to take him to my hair dresser to fix it. When she finished, I was so shocked, I really just grabbed him and left. That said, his last hair cut was amazing. I have figured out you have to scissor cut all of his hair, and I think that helped the hair dresser a lot to know that. The setup is great, though. My son actually loves to go. The kids can play trains while they wait, and pick what chair they want to sit in (cop car, firetruck, etc). And they always have movies playing, which helps keep the kids entertained (and still). I just think its hit or miss as to if you will get a good cut or not. read more

Awesome place for kids haircut. I have been told about this place by my cousin and just after reaching there first thing I did is to call and thanked her for this. We went for our daughter's first haircut and she thoroughly enjoyed there. We opted for first haircut package deal of $25 which includes some hair they gave us to keep with you and a beautiful photograph. While waiting they have so much toys that your little one would hardly give you a company ;) Then the lady ( sorry forgot name ) did a total justice while cutting her hair and making her smile. Before going there I was little tense with so much in mind...as its a first haircut and how would my baby will respond...will she sit there... she would cry ? Sometimes the wait can be long especially when there is only one stylist. Everyone is very kind though. When my one year old son got his hair cut there, my lack of knowledge of clipper lengths and failing to or provide an exact explanation of what he has been getting there before resulted in a really short buzz cut. Not bad, if that's what you were expecting. The gentleman at the register (owner? Manager?) noticed my hesitation as I was checking out and provided me with a discount. Overall, it's always a good experience when there is enough stylist to keep the line moving. read more

My wife took our son there today for his first hair cut. We were looking to take advantage of their first haircut package which is meant to give you a lock of their hair and a picture of their first haircut for $25. At no point was my wife offered this package even after specifically saying to the receptionist and the hairdresser that it was his first haircut and they said ok as if they knew what we wanted but the package was never mentioned or offered. Then the stylist snip once on my son's head and then asked my wife what she thought as if she'd given a full haircut. My wife then had to talk the hairdresser through most of the haircut and what she wanted our sons hair to look like as the hairdresser looked clueless and stated our son has a lot of cow licks and that she didn't know what to do with the cow licks. Why wife had to also specifically ask her to cut his hair so it wasn't over his ears anymore. And never cut the hair on top of his head. I took my daughter here for a trim as an infant, she had super long bangs and we just needed it out of her eyes. It was a horrendous hack job on her poor hair, her bangs were so crooked and jagged. it wasn't even something that we could attempt to even out. We got there right when they opened and it was packed, the receptionist said there was no estimated wait time, they'd get to people when they could. I believe on this particular Saturday there were two stylists working. They do have toys and a decent waiting area for stuff to keep the kids entertained for the brutal wait. read more

I've been here twice with my little one and although the staff is friendly with kids I haven't found the haircuts consistent either of the times. They always seem to be in a rush to finish rather than making sure about the accuracy and consistency of the haircuts as both times the haircuts were done in under 5 minutes and needed fixing after getting home. Just a great place for the kids to get a quick cut. My little girl sally's hair was getting a little long and greasy and just needed a good washing along with a haircut. So I went on yelp and found this place. While the two $ sign's scared me at first I decided to pucker up the money because well, its my baby girl and I dont mind spending 10+ dollars every now and then on her. So we got in there and I instantly got a good feeling from this place. Sally hopped right up in the chair and they cut away. Usually sally is nervous when it comes to haircuts but they made her feel really comfortable and helped ease the nervousness away. The whole time they were just talking about girl things ya know, and sally was just soaking the attention up. When it was over she was just about as happy as I've ever seen her. We drive from Fredericksburg just to get my two year olds hair cut. They are great and good at what they do. There is all kinds of toys for the kids to play with before or after the haircut, along with kid movies playing on tv's. My child loves to go here and is so relaxed while getting his hair cut. I have been here a few times and agree that haircuts are very inconsistent depending on who is actually doing the cut. My son has had 3 decent haircuts there. However, every time my daughter has had her cut there it was rather mediocre and this most recent trip we left with uneven hair where pieces hadn't even been cut and it was generally uneven and choppy. (I plan on taking her somewhere else to fix it for fear of it just getting worse) Her hair looked like I took kitchen scissors and just cut straight across. If you pull it back in a pony tail you can see every blunt layer and it looks awful. I would NOT recommend brining your daughter here. However, I have always been pleased with their boy cuts. The set up is ideal for small children and they have experience with squirmy kids. Just beware that there is some risk involved, especially with girl haircuts. read more

HORRIBLE FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE. I rate P&C at ONE star because of the kid friendly atmosphere. A train table in the waiting area, fun cars for the kids to sit in during their haircut and a TV for each child to keep them distracted during their cut. Very cute. I was excited to take my 1 year old for his first salon experience. I described to the stylist how I would like the haircut to look. The description included the words "l'd like to keep his side burns long." The very first snip she made with her scissors was at the top of his side burns and just like that his side burns were completely gone. I stopped her and repeated that I wanted his side burns kept long but there's no turning back with one long side burn and one very short side burn. So, at that point she had to cut the other one off to match. What part of "I'd like to keep his sideburns long" didn't she understand? She worked so fast and did her typical boy cut that I'm sure she gives every little boy without taking any of my requests into consideration. On top of all of that, his bangs were uneven, the nape of his neck was uneven and I left the salon very dissatisfied. My one year old sat still the entire time. So, she doesn't even have a moving target to blame for the bad haircut. Long story short, I had a HORRIBLE first time experience and will NOT be returning to Pigtails & Crewcuts in Richmond. We've been taking our 3 1/2 year old son here since his very first haircut. Kids get to play with trains on a train table while they wait but we've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes. Then your child gets to pick which vehicle they want to sit in (or, if your kid is like mine was when he was really little, they can sit in a regular barber's chair in your lap) and watch kids movies. They are even treated with animal crackers! So, distractions abound to make them completely forget what they came for - the haircut. If you go on a Tuesday, you'll get a double stamp on your frequency card. If you go on a Thursday, you'll get $2 off the cut (we alllways go on a Thursday). And if you fan them on Facebook, you'll get $3 (I think it's $3 but you'd have to check on that) the first time. I will say though that I definitely would not be giving them 4 stars if it weren't for Veronica - she gives the best, more consistent cuts. I always call ahead and make sure she's working before I go because while my son has gotten okay cuts from others, Veronica is the best. I even had her cut mine last time we went and she was fast and thorough. It's not a salon and you won't get a salon style (my hair didn't get washed or dried) but it was probably at least equal to if not better than a haircuttery cut. read more

Do NOT take your child here. My son's hair was butchered. I asked her to cut his bangs and please cut off no length; just shape it up. The bangs are not cut at all; they're still below his eyes. The right side of his head is shorter than the left. It's awful. The woman was so, so careless. read more

The first hair cut my son got here was okay. It wasn't amazing but we liked the atmosphere and the wait was easy because of train table. The reason for my one star is our second visit. The woman who cut my son's hair did a hack job on it. It was uneven all over, the sides were uneven, the neckline was uneven and the front was cut both uneven and left really strangely parted. I had to go to Sport Clips (this will be my new go to place for his cuts) to have them fix it. As the stylist at Sport Clips was fixing it, she showed me all the strange and uneven layers cut in to his hair. On top of the bad cut, the stylist at Pigtails and Crew Cuts was less than friendly and smelled of smoke. We'll never be back and we'll never recommend. read more
