If I could give them a zero star rating I would. I took an injured House Sparrow to this place to…read moreget help, after looking all over PA for a vet who could help me. They were too busy to look at the poor little house sparrow. We left and drove for a total of two hours looking for another rescue, but found none. The sparrow we rescued had an injured foot but was eating and flying in our spare bedroom. We felt that the bird would have a chance if a vet could help it. After we got home from a wasted trip all over Pgh, we fed the little bird and gave it water, which it ate and drank fine. The next morning, early, there was a police officer at my front door, demanding to have the bird. I was shocked. I told him that the bird was a house sparrow and we were trying to save it by calling all over for a vet who could help this bird. He demanded that we either let it free to be food for other wildlife or take it back to that ARL Wildlife Center for them to check it. I told him that we tried the day prior but they were busy clipping the predator bird's nails and wouldn't get to this tiny sparrow for who knows when. He continued to demand that I wake my daughter who was ill. I had no choice but to wake her and tell her he wants to see the bird. She brought him downstairs and he said to either release it or take it back to Verona. I live 1 1/2 hour's away from Verona. That was a terrible trip for me the day before. But he said that we had to do it. So I told him I would. The next day we took the bird back to that place and the young girl who looks like she was 14 years old, killed the bird while my daughter and I cried. Then I found out that the House Sparrows are NOT federally protected birds and we didn't have to take the baby to that place to die. She was the one who sent the police after us to make us bring that poor baby to her to die. Don't take any wildlife you find to this ARL Center.

Unfortunately not all injured wildlife survives, but I'm sure the staff does their best and I'm thankful all the lives they can save. Donations are requested but not required, which is very reasonable when you imagine how much it food and medicine alone cost. In most cases you can get updates and it feels great when you find out that they saved "your" critter. PS If you find an animal outside of business hours, there are sheltered cages near the door to safely drop animals off until help arrives.

My bf and I went to look at kitties one day and we fell in love with the idea Rescue and Relax has!…read moreThey genuinely care about where the kitties end up by checking which personalities mix with which owners, homes, lifestyles, etc. As well as expecting a handful of visits to really get to know the cats before taking any home. They also double check to make sure your lease allows cats, and do vet references before adopting. If a cat unfortunately doesnt work out at your home, they'll take them back to the rescue with open arms! Each cat is vaccinated and fixed before going home as well! To add, you know the cats are well cared for because every single kitty was an absolute sweetheart (some kitties didn't get along with other kitties at times which is normal, but each kitty loved on the people who were there!) We're picking up our newest addition to the house later today and we can't be more excited! Thank you volunteers!! 10/10 I recommend

Now just imagine how many restaurants, businesses, and even grocery stores have food that just can't sell and would probably sit and spoil. Welcome 412 Food Rescue! Whether you sign up to be a Food Rescue Hero or join a volunteer event setup by the organization, you can help to limit food waste and feed the hungry. Food Rescue Heroes sign up for push notifications through the app and are pinged when restaurants or grocery stores near them have donations... but just need someone to come rescue them... making volunteering like a game to come to the rescue first!! My work partnered with 412 Food Rescue for a rescue at PNC Park. We went into the bowels of the stadium and rescued excess buns from a recent homestand of games that were then taken to local food banks and put into the hands of families later that day! PNC Park orders a hot dog and bun per seat for every game. 38,000 hot dogs and in September only about 5,000 people attend.. and I doubt they all eat a hot dog! That's a lot of excess food, so we sorted through the buns to check for mold or rodents. It was such an easy volunteer opportunity and so impactful with a direct impact to the community! If you want to bring value to your community or like to find quality non-profit organizations, please partner with 412 Food Rescue!
