I am a strong believer in honoring those who succumbed to the holocaust, a total of 6 million who lost their lives to this horrible time in our history. I have visited two concentration camps, Dauchau in Bavaria and Sachsenhausen in Berlin. These visits will forever be imprinted into my brain, which I think is important. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find this memorial in Frankfurt.
It is quite unassuming, so it can be easily missed. At first, it just looks like a wall along the street, but once you stop and look, you will see the wall extended towards the back of the lot. Row upon row of those who perished, with the names on a piece of steel protruding from the wall.
The ground is all rock. To honor a person, place a rock on the name shelf. I have read that this is a tradition to show a person has been remembered without leaving flowers to die.
Take your time while you visit. Allow yourself to feel the raw emotions from the thousands of names, feel the enormity of the loss. We simply cannot allow this tragedy to happen again.
