I've always preferred Japanese/Korean hair salons because I like that style and also because the hairdressers have more experience working with fine and straight Asian hair. In my first week in the Netherlands I needed a haircut (because sadly I didn't have time to get one before I left). Fuji hair was recommended by several friends and also a waiter in a Japanese restaurant. It is a bit out of the way if you live in Amsterdam but it is easily reachable by public transport. The salon is located in a shopping center and if you go before 5pm, you can make a shopping day out of it. There are other Asian stores there so this is a great chance to stock up on snacks, food, beauty products, etc. They are appointment only and I recommend that you call at least 1 week beforehand. Luckily they are also open on Sunday. When you arrive, you are seated and given some tea while you wait for your hairdresser. The facility is very clean and neat. My hairdresser was friendly, easy to talk to and spoke English (hooray!). I always bring photos to explain what I want and he delivered the results exactly. The pricing is a bit expensive compared to the rest of the Netherlands but it is actually cheaper than what I usually pay in New York so I think it is a great deal. The quality is reflected in the price and I would rather pay more to get what I want. If you have Asian hair and want a more modern style, Fuji hair is the place to go! This is also a great place for men who want something more daring and unconventional.

I have naturally curly hair and only go to Dominican Salons because I find they don't over prices my hair. Rosa have me a blow out like I was in Washington Heights. She roller set my hair and then used a steam flat iron. She only accepts cash. €45. I also bought a pastel de carne for €2 from a lady that came into the shop. It was delicious.

Best. Recommendation. Ever. The pair of them know what they're doing! They're great with suggestions AND they listen to you! But it's not just these guys, whilst I was in my chair getting my hair did, I saw many customers walk in and out happily- the hairdressers here know what they're doing. Bubblekid currently have two stores, but my local is the one in De Pijp (next door to Omelegg, yum). These guys also stock Kevin Murphy products, which whilst pricey are definitely worth the splurge! The service isn't always 100% when you're in store without an appointment (the shop is huge, great for browsing the 'Things I Like, Things I Love' clothing line and other wares on display), you'll need to book so you're not wondering around aimlessly when they're busy busy busy or expect to be a little bit patient! It's definitely worth it!

The salon does not have mirrors at each chair, which I would have preferred a mirror. My hair isn't exactly what I had in mind and shorter than we discussed. It is also uneven. One chunk of hair on the left side is 1" longer. Not sure how I didn't see it while I was there.
