Alright so this sea town is very different from my usual stomping ground in Surf City, SoCal. It's too quiet and almost as if there may not be any sort of place for foodies culture to exist; however I could be so wrong because Pier 77 fixed my craving. The servers, the kitchen staff gotta be so awesome because I had such a good experience and it was crazily busy. The boiled shrimps, the blue crabs , the ginormous chicken Alfredo, the humongous burger and the seafood combo are so fresh and delicious. I love the concept of BYOB. We stopped in to have lunch because of the good reviews we had read. But our experience was anything but pleasurable. We placed our drink and food order. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks. After 30 minutes we had to ask when are salads would be served. They finally served our salads 30 min into our lunch. After 1.5 hours waiting for our main course, we decided to leave. Didn't get to try the chicken gumbo or side salads because they weren't delivered...we declined to take them to go when the server offered while we were getting our check. The kiddo didn't have much to say about the chicken nuggets and fries (cause the kiddo fell asleep). For fun, I decided to try one. Order these if you don't object to mechanically separated chicken (google pink slime for a good time). When we asked if they could take a few bucks off the tab as a courtesy for the skipped soup/salad, we were informed that the sides were included in the price of the entrees and there was nothing they could do. Food is delicious and maybe some of the best seafood I had. However, the service was on the floor. I was sat in the back in a corner which felt like racially motivated and gave sundown town vibes. The staff did not want to service us at all. We asked for water and napkins and only got water and asked again for napkins to only receive three (who wants three napkins with seafood like come on). We were sat in the back of the restaurant in a corner next to some spare chairs that the waiting staff would put back and grab frequently. Our waitress hardly ever came to the table to the point of us sitting for around 20-30 min for the check and dessert options after we ate. We asked a different server for water and napkins and only got one so we had to ask again. The waiting staff did not seem happy to service us or really anyone. Caveat: This place isn't really my favorite kind of food (I am not a seafood lover), but it was the highest rated place closest to our Airbnb, and lots of places were closed Wed nights, so there wasn't much choice. My husband got a salad and 2 sides with his 12 garlic shrimp (he could only finish 6). The salad was a pretty basic iceberg version, his 2 sides were steamed broccoli and coleslaw, served in two separate huge bowls. I didn't see one person leave here without a doggie bag. I saw a plate of spaghetti, that looked like an entire pound of pasta and 2 softball size meatballs. Our kiddos weren't as hungry as us, so they opted to share a spaghetti and meatballs kids plate and man, I'm glad they did. The portion size was HUGE. My older two and our baby ate a bunch of it and we still had a lot left over for lunch the next day. I opted for the shrimp Alfredo and my husband got the muscles pasta. Small parties of less than 4 people have a shorter time to be seated. Larger parties will have a significant wait time to be seated. Pier 77 is just ok. We ordered the fried shrimp dinner to go. For the price, I thought we would get more. They were out of baked potatoes so we opted for hush puppies instead. I had assumed that hush puppies, French fries and possibly a salad or coleslaw would come with the meal. So, for around $30, we got one fried shrimp dinner with hush puppies. Seems a little high for a restaurant that you must pay in cash for your food. The shrimp was just ok and the hush puppies needed to be cooked a little longer. Last night in RockPort and tried out Pier 77 for a party of 8. It was pretty packed and waited 15 minutes for a table which is expected. We waited another 15 minutes to order our drinks and then another 15 minutes appetizers. The wait time was not to much of a problem but expect it if it's a full place and a big party. The setting was a bit loud but expected. The portion size was big and especially massive for kid meals. The taste was really good and satisfying. Definitely did not disappoint. read more
