I was visiting from out of state and was driving through Calhoun and had found a small friendly dog…read morethat appeared lost. He was almost hit several times yesterday a few cars and I pulled over to try and help him. The dog was afraid and came running up to me. The dog had a collar on and I attempted to contact the two numbers on his dog tag however was unable to reach the owners. I Googled animal shelters and it brought up Gordon County Animal Shelter. This was on a weekday around 3pm. I called the phone number 4 times to ask what to do and nobody would answer so I found my way to the shelter. When I arrived the lights were off and the doors locked. Their hours are supposed to be until 5pm during the week so why are is nobody answering the phone and doors locked? When the lady finally opens the door she turned the lights on and has a rude attitude throughout my whole interaction with her as if I was a bother. I explain the story and she asks what street I found the dog on. Regardless of the fact that I told her numerous times that I was from out of state, I had trouble recalling the street that I found the lost dog in as I was too focused on getting him to his rightful owners. That's all she can keep repeating herself as if I didn't hear her the first time. I ended up tracing the road that I was on through my phone. She didn't even want to assist with checking to see if the dog was microchipped. She told me that I had to take him to the city shelter. When I get to the city shelter the guy asks if the county scanned to see if the dog was microchipped and I said no she did nothing except ask what street I found the dog on then sent me his way. Absolutely do not recommend this place for any services if this is the way they treat people. I can only imagine how they treat the animals under their care.
