people at the bar of a restaurant

Cute resto in a great location! It was pretty full on a Friday night so I would recommend making reservations esp if you're planning to visit on the weekend. We sat at the bar and the service was super friendly. I'd recommend the dumplings, sautéed cucumbers, and the Thai iced tea tiramisu. The dishes we ordered all happened to be on the salty side so I'd also recommend ordering other dishes with that in mind to balance out. You won't get typical Thai dishes here - worth trying out for a creative twist!

Pichai - restaurant interior with bar seating on left, table seating on right, patio tables outside

Pichai is the big brother restaurant to Pumpui in Montréal. It's a more upscale Thai place for family dining. It is currently ranked #45 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants. We made formal dinner reservation for the patio on the same day, unfortunately it was quite windy and they moved us inside. Known for Thai Issan cuisine, the chef doesn't hold back on spicy heat! But we had a mixed review about our dining experience at Pichai. Staff were helpful in translating the French menu for the day. It was struggle to find non-spicy dishes on the main menu that the entire family could enjoy. For appetizer, the grilled veal tongue with a Thai miso sauce was a decent start; it was tender & resembled steak a bit in taste. Accompanying herbs & cucumber helped balance the meatiness. For mains, the grilled swordfish came in a spicy red curry sauce that only one of us could enjoy with rice. The fish itself was too firm and rather bland inside. The grilled hanger steak salad was served with an assortment of herbs, toasted rice powder & lemongrass on top. The tender meat flavours were bold but overall was too sour & salty for us despite sticky rice. We were surprised about moving to bar seating when it was empty at opening time. Stools were uncomfortable by the end of 1.5 hr dining. There were also too many routine bar interactions for our comfort. Most disappointing meal while we were in town.

Beef cheek curry - did not look or tasted like curry

My review is based on 3.5*. Heard a lot of good comments about this place so decided to give it a try on girls night. Located in Rosemont, parking isn't so much of an issue (+there). The restaurant has a hipster feel to it. When looking at the menu, it is on the pricey side given the size of the dishes compared to authentic Thai restaurants. Ordered a beef cheek curry and was quite disappointed. Thai curry is usually quite creamy and fragrant with the coconut milk, galangal and lemongrass. To my surprise when the fish was brought over, it did not look at curry at all. As a matter of fact, it didn't even taste like curry. There was also very few piece of beef for a $35 dish which is pricey. Then had the eggplant salad - wasn't bad but quite blend. The morning glory was surprisingly good and spicy. The stems were very crunchy meaning they were very " young ". Last fish was the fried fish with tamarin sauce. This one added a 0.5* to the overall rating. The fish was fried throughly and you can even eat some of the bones and fins because they were so crispy. The tamarin sauce also married well with the fish - would recommend this dish. The restaurant has a pretty big wine list but very few by the glass. Overall food was Ok but I would not come back given the price point and you can get much better/more authentic Thai food at a much lower price point.

    Swordfish in curry sauce

On our last night in Montreal we decided to check out a new ish Thai spot instead of going for more classic French food. What a great testament to Montreal's international food scene. The laab ped was fantastically spicy, with the right balance of sour. The veal tongue, a more modern Thai interpretation of a western dish, was tender. Morning glory also had great flavor and texture. Swordfish was cooked al dente with a nice curry sauce. Overall, laab ped was most certainly our favorite, but they did a great job on all the dishes.

A very cozy, lively restaurant with big flavourful dishes, complex recipes in shareable portions that create an intimate ambiance which we really enjoyed. Thorough, usefully knowledgeable service makes it very easy to pick the perfect meal for you

This place is incredible! Staff was friendly and helpful to us two dumb Americans, and we felt more than welcomed. When we were looking at the wine list, our server let us know they had a few by the glass, and offered to let us sample them before committing. We had the papaya salad, which was phenomenal, could have been a little spicier to me, but I know everyone had a different threshold. We also got the beef rib special with peanut sauce, the pork ball noodles and the Thai tea tiramisu. If I could dine at Pichai everyday I absolutely would. Thank you!

    Grilled fish, special

This place is amazing. The servers were so accommodating towards my tables food restrictions (4/6 had allergies so we practically had to have our own menu :p) But to top it off the food tasted crazy good and would def go again. We were celebrating a graduation and we all tried about 10 dishes and can say not one didn't hit. Only thing is it is a little pricy but very suited for a special occasion!

Poor service. Overcharged by 10 dollars. Small and loud. Spicy mushroom dish had no spice.

Overpriced and under-spiced. All our dishes were disappointing. Nothing was horrifically bad, but not tasty enough to ever go back.

Coming in to Easter weekend, I was dreading trying to figure out how to come up with a nice dinner…read morefor the family in the midst of the pandemic... I hoped against hope that some clever restaurant would hear my cry for gastronomic help. Lo and behold, Chez Victoire to the rescue! Seeing they were offering a beautiful Easter dinner set menu for a very reasonable $25/person, I called several days ahead to reserve for four people. They were super nice on the phone and in person when I went to pick things up. Very efficient, prepaid and given a specific time for pick up, I was the only customer in the store. I waited and they placed the order on a table and then I could pick it up. Very smooth. The instructions on how to reheat and serve the meal were very clear and easy to follow. The dinner was a real feast, and great value for the money. There was a butternut squash soup with duck confit and Brussel sprout garnish which we actually saved for lunch the next day because it looked like so much food. For the main course, there was leeks with vinaigrette, cauliflower gratin with béchamel sauce, baked beans with maple syrup and braised lamb, and maple syrup ham with carrots, peas and puréed potatoes. We finished off with a delicious maple syrup tart with pecans. I'd say my only minor issue was that I would have liked just a slightly larger piece of ham, otherwise the meal was perfection! Better than anything I could have come up with even under the best of circumstances. I am secretly hoping they keep doing this even after the pandemic for next Easter. Props to Chez Victoire for finding creative ways to stay open during these crazy times. Can't wait to come here in person when life gets back to normal... and I hope they do the Easter take out menu next year so I can pass it off to my in laws as my own cooking. ;)

It was around 3pm and of course we were the only people there, but generally didn't find the service to be that friendly or accommodating - it was more courteous and efficient as opposed to being very welcoming, which is totally fine. Overall, like many wine bars in Montreal, the BTG and bottle list skews very heavily toward natural or minimal intervention wines from all over the world (except the United States due to tariff boycotts). Although Quebec is a burgeoning wine producing region (often overshadowed by BC wines from Okanagan and ON ice wines), I found many lists did not offer much from the region, which is really disappointing. vinvinvin definitely had the most options available (perhaps 5-6 total of 40-50+ labels) and many BTG, which is great if you're looking to try some local wines. They do offer food, but the kitchen doesn't open until 4pm so we didn't try anything. Overall, I like the decor of the place and it seems like it'd be a really fun place to hang out with friends. But given that we were the only clients there at the time, I wish the service was a bit friendlier.

Prices were okay, and wine selection is not too bad. We got a couple of vermouths, which were nice to drink. We ordered olives to nibble on and I thought those were good. Decor looks unpretentious at least, but a bit too crowded for my taste. It's an okay place to visit if you want some pre-dinner beverages.
