At Rhome

I have been coming to Rome the past six Christmas seasons now. After staying at a very nice hotel…read morenear the Spanish steps the previous times, we decided to venture out and stay in an apartment. We chose Gabrielle's apartment because of his friendly communication qualities (no matter what we asked from the U.S. he responded within 24 hours) and we also appreciated his flexibility. The apartment had two bedrooms, a pullout couch, a kitchen, and a good amount of living space with a nice dining area. The windows that open up to the street side was a nice character that we enjoyed. Wifi and a washer also came in handy. The location of this apartment can't be beat. Right down the street is a grocery store, a pharmacy (if needed), a choice of a couple fantastic bars for money coffee, and lastly a huge selection of traditional Roman style restaurants. The location is near the Spanish steps, Piazza del Popolo, the fashion district, and a short walk from the usual tourists attractions (Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona). The metro is a three minute walk if needed. As far Gabrielle and his associate, you couldn't ask for better hosts. We needed their assistance with something small and it was solved within the hour. Truly great! I am planning another trip in June and will definitely stay here again.

So for starters The Hotel Beldes is apparently two differently places. You have the main building and the other down about a block. Which I thought cool this place must be amazing if they bought out two buildings. No.... the first building is very nicely decorated very welcoming with an asian host that speaks Italian(mind blown) So as I arrive it is pouring rain and he tell me we have to walk the block and a half to my room... mind you have to four big ass bags.. So I was like cool... whatever.. when in rome. So we take this unexpected journey to the other building. we arrive and they man start to explain to me how to get into the building.. turns out they own half of a floor of an apartment building which I thought cool. Oh no.. we get to the floor and again the guy explains how to get in.. I have about 3 sets of keys to get inside my room.. again no biggie. I get inside its a cute room. I will give them that. very very cute room. I ask the guy before he leaves if there is room service and he says no.. Strike one. I ask if there is wifi he says yes. Wifi only works in one place in my room.. Strike two so the next day I go out and see the city. Rome is a beautiful place. great history. is great. I hated it but its great. I get back to my room I lay down for a nap.. the slats in my bed break..... strike two and a half. I try to call my dad and tell him i am alive. my phone doesn't work.. strike 3... My time here was just shit.. maybe it was just my luck but don't stay here.. Actually just don't go stay in Rome. Stay in Venice and take the train into Rome..

The apartments are a bit pricey compared to what you could find living with a couple friends in an apartment in Rome, but the amenities are sweet! The apartments are spacious, and the views are great considering it is at the base of the beautiful Gianicolo hill. Fun fact! The apartment building was completely gutted out and renovated in the summer of 2010. But the architects kept the original floor tiles and used them as the backsplash in the kitchens. Compared to dorms in the U.S, the Gianicolo Residence is not as social. But that's because students literally live in apartments, not dorms. It has its perks and its downfalls. And I love my Resident Assistant! She's literally the most awesome person you could know (this is for you, Emilia!). There is bi-weekly cleaning service, 24/7 security, and wi-fi. Not too shabby for college housing!

Friendly front staff people. Breakfast and social drinks were not included but everything else was stellar. Even received a welcoming tiramisu and champagne upon check in. This establishment comes highly recommended by me. Photos to follow. Also, in the equivalent of the Soho of Rome so quite clean, too!
