Piazza Kraus is named for the family who once ruled this town form 1550-1800. Their palace, now the City Hall (and Tourist Information Office) overlooks the square and sports the Kraus Family coat of arms.
The Square is small, but well used and loved. Our Hotel that we stayed (Cavallino d'Oro/Goldenes Rössl) is one one side, the Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul is on another, and the distinctive Tower and nearby St. Florian fountain is in the middle. We were there for the Thursday AM market, and other activities we could catch in future visits might include a Farmer's Market, Christmas festivities, the after-Mass crowd, and maybe a performance of the Kastelruther Spazen folk-singing group? read more
