I've been treated in the past by Physicians Associates doctors who have now retired. BUT PLEASE READ BELOW FOR WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I NEEDED A YEARLY PHYSICAL WITH A NEW DOCTOR THERE, as there is evidence of misdoings. Since I'd been experiencing some fatigue, I schedled a yearly physical with a new doctor. The first visit was a blood draw and urinalysis plus an order was to be sent to Cologuard for a kit to be delivered to me. Additionally a follow-up vist for the actual physical was scheduled for 5 weeks later. At check-in, there was the normal weight/height/blood pressure, followed by an EKG. When the doctor came in a few minutes later was when the problems started. 1. He, or his aides, had never ordered the Cologuard kit 2. The blood work results he recieved two days after the firts visit showed: (1) I had moderate iron deficieny anemia; (2) my LDL was noticeably over the desired 100 level; and I had a mild general infection. HE NEVER CONTACTED ME with those results or to order medications to treat them. Instead each issue persisted (and probably worsened) for almost five weeks. 3. As above, I had an EKG which is part of a full physical. But beyond that, all he did was listen to my lungs. HOWEVER, in searching documents posted on their website, I found a 2-page document with results of a nose to toes physical that had he certified he had by signing off on the 'results'. OTHER THAN THE EKG, LISTENING TO MY CHEST, AND WHAT HE COULD DEDUCE BY LOOKING AT ME WHEN I WAS FULLY CLOTHED, HE DID NOT PERFORM ANY OF THE PHYSICAL EXAM COMPONENTS. I could see that some data was from physicals done 4 or 5 years by the doctors cited above which would not be applicable, but must of the 'results' never occured. 4. Other documents show that Medicare has been billed by what looks like all the parts of the 'physical'. 5. I will not return, and hope that others who might have concerns as i did will know to research their documents. read more

This rating is for the overwhelmingly rude front desk staff. Between billing, scheduling, and questions, so much of one's care experience is in the hands of these folks, which is a major shame. I worry, truly, for people who are elderly, not native English speakers, low-income, or have complex health issues, and whose care and finances lie in the hands of such negligence and unkindness. Five (or rather: ten!) stars for Dr. Medhane. If she wasn't such an excellent doctor, I would go elsewhere, and when/if she leaves or retires, I'll leave immediately, too. read more

Not a good place to work! Although they do repay their employees for parking which is nice. They underpay their employees for working! Call center in the next room is too Loud chatting and joking around while patients were being checked in and waiting in the living room. Job had too many steps, tedious and very complex. I have been a patient of Dr. Saba Medhane for several years now and she is amazing. The quality of care that I received from Dr. Medhane, and her office staff, phenomenal. Dr. Medhane is patient, caring and thorough. She is quick to respond to phone calls, and will find time for virtual appointment if there are no inpatient appointments available. Her office staff answers the phone in a timely fashion, and follows up as promised. My longtime primary care physician stopped practicing to raise her family, and I bounced around between a couple of doctors, so I consider myself very fortunate to have found Dr. Medhane. I hope she never retires!! read more

For my first appointment here I was told I had to come back for my physical by my doctor and that it was a meet and greet. I thought I scheduled a new patient physical??? No one communicated this with me when I scheduled and she held my medication hostage. That was frustrating in itself. Then on a day I just want a flu swab I have to wait over an hour for them to hear back from a doctor to get me scheduled? The administration at this practice is laughable. They do not make it easy on people with busy lives or who don't feel good and just want an appointment to be seen. I will definitely be switching practices. read more

I met with Dr. Grossman, one of the doctors within the PA Network in need of care for a terrible pain in both of my shoulders. First off, I called in hopes I could be seen within a couple days but instead, they had an opening SAME DAY, which is unheard of! Also, the gentleman on the phone who set the appointment for me was super friendly and had an actual personality (not typical and a pleasant surprise). I went to my appointment 3 hours later, waited a total of 4 minutes after checking in. Then the Doctor saw me. He heard out everything I thought could be wrong, performed extensive testing, and gave me multiple treatment scenarios to choose from. It is now two days later and my shoulders have significantly improved. By far the best experience I've had seeing anyone in the medical field I can remember in my 33 years, which have been filled with many injuries. Strongly recommend PA and any doctors they have in their network after this experience. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Medhane on a referral from a friend a few years ago. She is a lovely woman, patient and she does listen. BUT her staff is bottom of the barrel. They say they decide when to forward messages from patients to the doctors. One of my blood glucose prescriptions was called into the pharmacy by the staff incorrectly and luckily the pharmacist caught the mistake. The front desk personnel and those who answer the phones are rude, dismissive, patronizing and eventually they will cost a patient their life because they don't listen and they don't communicate information well or accurately. I worked a medical office desk for an OB/GYN practice for 10 years and if we had demonstrated 1/10th of the behavior that I've encountered with these people, terminations would have been swift. If Dr. Medhane were to separate herself from these people, and set up a solo practice, I would definitely follow her but my focus now is finding someone new, as tough as that will be. I'd rather go to urgent care than pick up the phone and deal with these "people." read more

In 2015, Dr. Susan Jaffe failed to recognize that I had thyroid cancer even though I now know I had all of the symptoms, including those that fall under her specialty. I was sleeping 16 hours a day and rapidly gaining weight when I was barely eating. Her solution: you just need to exercise more. Well, it's hard to exercise when you feel like you need to sleep 16 hours a day. After two weeks of no response from this office regarding blood results, I went up to Rockville Gynecology and two weeks after that I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer by an endocrinologist. I can even see in photos from 2015 that there was a mass in my neck on one side. If I had listened to Dr. Jaffe, I probably wouldn't have caught my cancer early. Now I use my story to educate others on why it's important to advocate for yourself and not let doctors like Dr. Jaffe tell you that nothing is wrong when you know something is wrong. She shouldn't be practicing medicine at all. This is a zero star review, but Yelp doesn't let you give zero stars. read more

Not surprising, rating is only for the administration. I was never seen by the Dr. so unfortunately I don't know how good they are. The scheduling is, apparently, not done in house. Fine, they outsource or have a call center, but at the very minimal communicate with the front of house?!?! Do they realize that people have to take time off work to come in? I had an 8:40 AM appointment with Dr. Lee. When I arrived, they said there was a mistake and they have me down for 11:40 AM so I should come back then. I canceled the appointment. Due to their incompetent, disorganized management, I will look for another Dr. elsewhere. It's a real shame that people are so turned off by the front of house, these reviews can't even reflect the doctors. I'm starting to think smaller vertical practices are the way to go. I wish I could give zero star instead of one. Unfortunately I had the most unpleasant customer service experience ever with the Billing Department . They were extremely RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. I called them to get an explanation of the charges that I have been invoiced for, and instead of getting the proper explanation I got yield at and told that will not get any detail and have to pay the full amount. I called my insurance and had them to investigate. Guess what! There was an error and the invoice was incorrect. read more

I've been going to Physician's Associates for almost 10 years, and consistently had bad service... Showing up to an appointment on time only to wait for an hour or more to see the doctor. The front desk people are very rude. My doctor, Dr Ellis, was always friendly and helpful but is surrounded by an incompetent staff. On top of this, they regularly held up my prescriptions until I came in for generic "check ups". Totally unnecessary for the types of medication I'm on. At my last appointment, I was running a few minutes late so called the front desk. This apparently put me in queue behind every other patient, and I waited 90 minutes before I gave up and left. I've now switched practices to one that was highly regarded. I highly recommend others STAY AWAY from this place. read more

This is a great group of doctors. I now have a primary care doctor, gynecologist, and podiatrist all here! They are very meticulous, knowledgeable, and caring, and not to mention, they have great customer service!! The doctors will call back as soon as they receive results for any tests they ordered. In addition, they are really quick to return my phone calls! The only caveat is that you have to pay for parking if it's over 30 minutes. The parking attendant can't take my flex spending credit card, which is also unfortunate. However, I believe (and will need to try this the next time) you can ask for a receipt and submit it to your flex spending company to get it reimbursed. read more

The ease of getting in the office and dealing with the staff has been excellent. I like that there are many specialists so I feel I'm taking care of my whole body. Called in regarding a PCP change. Even though the website does not advertise they charge you a consultation fee for the first "meet and greet" before even getting to the business. Around $200 to spend an hour in the office and 5 mins with the doctor. Billing office was extremely rude and uncooperative when I asked about it. Let me start by saying that the two docotors I saw here (one an internist, one a specialist) were adequate - relatively good bedside manner, no major issues there. However, dealing with the back/front office was a complete nightmare. I was prescribed three items. Two of them showed up at my pharmacy as promised, the third (and very necessary) medication did not. It took me 6 phone calls and MORE THAN A WEEK to get Physician Associates to send the final prescription to my pharmacy. I ended up succeeding only when I told the amazingly rude woman who handled (or failed to handle) the simple task of calling in a prescription that she would either have my prescription available the next day or she should explain to the doctor why she lost one of his patients. Magically, it showed up at Walgreens 2 minutes later. (Note that, in addition to the time I spent on the phone with this office, my Walgreen's pharmacist made probably double the number of calls that I did). I can deal with a bit of incompetence, but at least be nice to customers while you're screwing things up for them. Every time I called to inquire about the missing prescription I was treated extremely rudely, as if it was my fault that they couldn't do their job. During the last few phone calls, she started feeding me excuses that gave a glimpse into how they run their operations (i.e., "We did send it over, but I think their fax machine was busy" - "Well, did you call it in?" - "No - we faxed it in" etc...etc...). I came in for a follow-up appointment with the doctor and told him about my experience. He was visibly upset, and said "well nobody told me about this!" Which I completely believe. Although I understand why they would not want to post the e-mail addresses of the physicians, doing so may allow patients to by-pass the back office in situations such as this. In short, while the medical care itself may be fine, interacting with anyone who isn't a doctor is a miserable experience. As others have noted, the facility itself is a little run-down - but not below average for doctor offices in the DCMV area. It seems like this place relies a fair amount on seniors who may not be able to express frustrations or vote with their feet. But if they want to keep younger patients coming back, they need to fire a fair number of people and institute some serious customer service training. Personally, I will go elsewhere from now on. read more

I really like the doctor (not going to give the name - doctors have ways of getting back at you) BUT I really don't think waiting one hour beyond one's appointment hour is ideal. And this, dear folks, is the superior American medical system we have to save from the jaws of socialized medicine. That said, I did get the doctor's full attention once I met with her. I have been coming here for a while and this place is ridiculous. From the rude and condescending staff to the rude doctors. I have come here to see Dr Jaffe Dr McNamara and Dr Schrene. Dr Schrene is rude, condescending and inconsiderate. I know that I came here for a GP in order to be given guidance on which facet of medicine or which specialist I need to see. I've been to their location in Chevy Chase for four years now. Billing is terrible and is not clear. When you call for clarification, it is very hard to have anyone in their office or billing department lay it out. What has been the biggest deal breaker is that I had an expired doctor's note by a few days. I called 50 minutes before my flight and so did the airline. They asked the doctor to simply update the date to ensure I make my flight. They claimed to expedite it, but could not keep any promises. When I called back thirty minutes later, the front desk yelled at me and said Dr. Niño will not write it until end of day after all her appointments because there was no time, that I should tailor my expectations, and that it's not her problem I will miss my flight. Dr. Niño is a pretty comprehensive doctor, and I do like seeing her. However, the clinic and the doctor at the end of the day are driven by revenue and not patient care. Having a doctor that could care less about me in a time of need - health and personally - is such a disappointment. The airline company and I were appalled. This is a service their front desk can do even, but they refused since they could not "bill" for this service. I recommend any other company than Physicians Associates. Make are your doctor has the same values and concerns as you. read more

If I could rate only the doctors, I'd give it a 5-stars! I can recommend Dr. Susan Jaffe and Saba Medhane. They instantly made me feel comfortable as I searched for medical care after moving cross country. They are kind and professional, and I went to this office for several years. Really unfortunately, their front office staff gets a zero. Look, if you have no medical concerns at all, then you might be able to swing it as just a mild irritation. BUT, if you need literally anything in a timely manner (prescriptions, dosage adjustments, medical advice, results, etc), you MUST be comfortable with receiving it only after weeks of telephone tag. Those receptionists will do a shoddy job of passing along your request, and they always act so pissed off to be receiving calls in the first place. My advice: go elsewhere if you have any medical concerns that require close attention. read more

I am a patient at this office and am happy with my primary care physician. I called at noon on a Friday because I was starting to feel like I might have a UTI. My primary care physician was not in that day, and I was told that the other doctors were booked so I could not be seen. Do they really not build in time for appointments like this? What good are they if they're not available when you need them? I'm surprised and disappointed. Their website has a tab titled "Tell Us How We're Doing," but when you click on it, the page cannot be found. There isn't even a "Contact Us" option. Frustrating. read more

I have been a patient of Physicians Associates since 2008 and it really doesnt get any better then this! Doctor of choice Dr. Medhane (female) or Dr Kundapur (female). I have also seen their Orthopedic Dr. McNamara (male) who is hysterical - a funny doctor? Yes they do exist. I have recommended 3 of my female coworkers to Physicians Associates, and now we all joke about how soon the whole office will be patients of Physicians Associates. It was very hard for me to find a good doctors office when I moved here in 2004 and I am so happy I landed where I am. If you are looking for a great female doctor then I would recommend both Dr. Medhane and Dr Kundapur, young 'hip' women who treat you with respect and use conservative but effective medicine. read more

The doctors and nurses are great and thorough although i cannot say the same regarding the rest of the staff. The front desk manager, Polly, is rude and uncaring. For a doctors office you would think that they would show some consideration and compassion for the patients seeing their doctors. I paid a bill that i received in the mail through the practice's online portal. When i went in for my doctors visit yesterday, she promptly asked for me to pay my balance for two other previous visits. I had not received any statement yet from their office, but she still insisted. I simply told her that i wanted to wait to receive my statement before paying and she got quiet and after a few seconds, told me that my balance was for a visit in April. That is insane, the claims hadnt been processed until early May AND they still hadnt sent me a bill. What doctors office asks for a customer to pay for something they havent fully processed?! And it gets better... also in the conversation post asking me to pay my balance, i informed Polly that i did receive one statement, for the earliest visit and that i had paid online per their statement instructions. She told me she didnt see it and i insisted that i did pay and that i would show a receipt within an hour (i had to go home to get it). She was quiet again, and didnt say anything. Its like she shuts up when she knows she might be wrong. AS SHE SHOULD. Nevertheless, during my visit with my doctor, i decided whats the loss, i will just take care of my balance because i would have to eventually. Trusting that the office was correct about what i still owed (two fees for two visits. i had already paid for the first one online per their statement) i gave her my card to process. Receiving the receipt in my "room" while waiting for my doctor to return, i put it in my purse. IT was not until i was leaving the office, waiting for the elevator, that i thought to look at my receipt. THEY HAD CHARGED ME FOR ALL THREE VISITS!!! Angrily i went back in and asked why she had authorized to charge for the visit I ALREADY PAID FOR?! I ended up sending them pictures of the receipts and transactions as well as their statement. This was early yesterday morning. I have neither received a response to my email (which they asked me to send) or a phone call in any attempt to rectify their mistake. Terrible customer service, especially when this is 100% their mistake. read more

I picked this office because of its convenient location and because BCBS lists them as doctors that are part of my plan. Our insurance allows 1 'well child' doctors visit per year with no co-pay. So I make an appointment (Dr. Ellis) for a well-child check up. Turns out that it is their practice to not actually do the exam on the 1st visit. The 1st visit is a "meet and greet" (their words). So I need to pay the co-pay. 2nd visit for the well child exam a few days later. Upon check out - I asked - and they confirmed that I do not need to pay the co-pay - BUT today I received the bill for the cop-pay. I called the billing phone number to ask why. I was told that it is standard practice for their doctors to "recharge" (quote) the patient for an 'office visit' (different code for insurance purposes) AND for the well child. In fact, she said that "all doctors recharge the patients." What is going on here? I don't recommend this place. I should say that Dr. Ellis was pretty friendly, but definitely defensive about their "meet and greet" practice. What is the point of having insurance that covers these things if the doctors just write up whatever insurance code they want to get the payment from the patient? read more

The front office staff may have to be requested to manage the place professionally. Making someone who arrived on time wait for close to 2 hours because other patients were late is not fair. This happened to me several times in 2010 so I had to switch to the Rockville office which is better managed. I visited them, they seemed like they care about their clients. However the treatment they gave me didn't work and I called to go back for a follow up visit. They said they would charge me like it is a new visit. I spoke with manager and she said the same. I was going to have them as my primary physician but they failed to keep me as a customer. read more
