I'd give Roy 100 million stars if I could! He is seriously amazing! Here's why: 1. We had scheduled our maternity shoot for last Saturday, a week after Nemo the blizzard. After searching around, I wasn't able to secure an indoors location. When we proposed Central Park, he was totally game and even suggested a few more outdoor locations. I really appreciated his flexibility. 2. It was bone-snapping cold that day, yet he took the time to look for the ideal backgrounds and took ample photos of each angle. We entered on the 72nd Street & 5th Avenue side of the park and roamed throughout. He wasn't looking at the time & rushing. He really put his effort into finding the perfect backgrounds and that we were having fun! Also, he made sure that I had my jacket on and that I was comfortable in between the shoot. Seriously...wow. 3. At the beginning of the shoot, I warned him that I'm very awkward in front of the camera. I hate having photos taken of myself alone. He worked so seamlessly and made it so much fun that we were just being ourselves. Of course, he suggested a few poses every now and then, and those poses were, yes, again, So. Much. Fun. 4. My boyfriend made a few requests with the backgrounds, certain details of the park that he'd like to include. Roy took every request, ran with it, and improvised even more ideas on it. A-w-e-s-o-m-e. 5. He pays immense attention to detail. He kept picking up lint from our shirts and made sure that our outfits are photo-ready. There was a huge wedding party at the park as well and he even noticed the tilted flower on the groom's lapel and proceeded to tell their photographer (who ignored Roy...or maybe he just didn't hear him...). 6. Last but not least, just had to say...I felt like a diva for having had two men hoist me up and down the band shell! My boyfriend and I had such a great time climbing up and down the rocks and maneuvering in between exposed tree roots...especially me in my Jeffrey Campbell Lita Spikes! Towards the very end, we shot the rest in my Doc Martens...an unexpected wardrobe change, since my focus was all on my 7.5-month belly so I didn't plan for any wardrobe change at all, however minute it was :) All in all, there aren't enough words to praise Roy. He's simply the best! We had a wonderful, magical time and I really cannot wait to see the photos! Roy did my daughter's senior pictures this past March and we were immensely pleased. Our family is from Georgia and my daughter loves New York and really wanted her pictures taken there. Upon an internet search, I found Roy's page and was immediately impressed of his photography. It was just the style we wanted and we knew we had made the perfect choice. I booked several months in advance and was hoping the weather would be cooperative. Upon our arrival in New York, it was raining and was forecasted to have rain on our photo day. Roy was on top of the hourly weather forecast the day of our shoot and was very flexible of our time frame and even had to rearrange his schedule from our original time. As it turned out, we had a slight rain at the beginning of the shoot which, by the way, made for some beautiful umbrella shots, and shortly after that, we had perfect weather for the rest of our session. Roy was wonderful and so professional to work with and we cannot encourage anyone more that if they are considering a photo session in New York, to seek out his services. He certainly has a talent for photography and was well worth the trip from south Georgia to get our daughter's senior pictures taken. My daughter, who is also a dancer, had some photos of action dance poses taken, as well. They, too, were phenomenal! And, her dance teacher has also requested a photo of her to place in her studio. And, believe me, we've had plenty of dance photos and these are very well done in capturing that perfect dance shot! So, book Roy at your earliest convenience! My fiancee and I used Photography by Roy for our engagement photos in Central Park and we are so impressed and pleased with the final product! We were on a tight schedule and only had a few days available for our engagement shoot, Roy was beyond accommodating and worked within our busy schedules to get us in. Roy was very professional but also very friendly, we felt like we were strolling through the park with a friend of ours. He took us to a variety of spots in Central Park and towards the end of the shoot asked us if there were any locations within the park that we didn't get. My fiancee had one location in mind and Roy was more than happy to walk there with us to take a couple more shots. We had never done a professional shoot before and Roy helped guide us on what positions to take and what angles or subtle movements would look best in the photos. He was also happy to hear our recommendations and let us know his thoughts. We were a little uncomfortable at first since a photo shoot was new for us, but Roy did a great job of being friendly and making us feel comfortable. After the shoot, Roy sent the online link to us ahead of schedule and broke down the entire process through his emails on how we access the photos and how we share the link with others. We received the USB with the high res images ahead of schedule as well! A couple months after receiving the final images we needed a couple of the high def images sent to us again, so we could send them to print. My husband and I could not be happier or more impressed with our son's newborn photo shoot with Roy. From our initial scheduling conversations through the entire shoot, Roy was extremely patient and professional. He willingly traveled to our home in Westchester and arrived right on time. Roy stayed at our home almost 5 hours and patiently waited...and waited for our 1 week old to cooperate or fall asleep. He did not rush us or seem annoyed by the amount of time and effort required (he was gentle with our son and an expert in calming him down). Roy scoped out our nursery and home to ensure he incorporated objects and backgrounds from our home to add a personal touch. He was super creative in finding various poses and backgrounds, particularly with a baby who was not in the mood to cooperate! He didn't mind the multiple wardrobe changes required due to some "accidents" and readily offered feedback and suggestions in addition to taking our own feedback and preferences into account. In addition to being great company, Roy is an extremely talented photographer! All of the proofs turned out amazing - our friends and family continue to share them with their own colleagues and friends because they are just so beautiful! The proofs were ready and the usb drive in the mail in record time and Roy has been beyond accommodating in providing insight into the prints as well. The greatness that empowers Roy and his work are absolutely indescribable! I live in Ohio, right near Pittsburgh, and when my aunt and I saw Roy's work online we just knew that we had to go to him for my Senior pictures. At first, I'm only being honest, I was super nervous and actually a little scared because my Aunt and I were meeting up with some guy in the middle of New York City, but as soon as I met him, I felt extremely comfortable and relieved. We got right into taking the photos and Roy made me feel natural and beautiful and that is something that I have never felt. When I originally asked Roy for a newborn photography session and mentioned that I might want a few pictures of our family also, I had no idea how spectacular EVERYTHING would turn out and how impossible it would be to choose between all the amazing shots! Roy started by taking beautiful photos of my 3 year old son outside barefoot in the grass - yes, he got my willful defiant "three-nager" to pose and cooperate for over 50 different pictures! The family photos are all stunning and we couldn't be happier. He took so many different poses and iterations with the different family members guaranteeing we would find ones we loved! The baby photos are on another level! He set up her room so perfectly that the pictures looked like a fairytale. It also turned out that my newborn was actually a bit fussier and I couldn't believe how well Roy was able to calm her and pose her, and how he refused to give up on getting a good shot. His patience and tenacity really paid off! Even when I thought we would have to forego a picture with this cute hat my mom had bought, he made it happen! And then the siblings shots! This pose of my son laying next to my daughter is one I know we will cherish forever. I don't normally take the time to write personal reviews, but I just had to following our recent experience with Roy. Roy did a shoot of our newborn son, he was only a week old when we did it, so I'm sure one could imagine how difficult it is to get a newborn to be cooperative during a photo shoot. But Roy knew exactly what he was doing. It was obvious from the moment he started that he understood how to handle babies. If it wasn't for Roy's tricks to keep our son asleep and calm, or for Roy's patience, I don't think we would have been able to get the amazing shots we did. It's not easy having a stranger come into your home and work with your baby, but Roy made us feel comfortable and relaxed from the get go and it was such a pleasant experience for us. He's personable, professional, and extremely talented! We still can't get over how well the photos came out. They were AMAZING and beyond what we were hoping for. Roy was also fantastic about sending us the shots immediately so we could get our birth announcement out. After doing a fair amount of online research on newborn photographers in the NYC area, I honed in on Photography by Roy for a number of reasons - his competitive at-home/personalized session package and print prices, his no fuss no cancellation fee and of course, the quality and creativity of his photos. We booked Roy for our daughter's June arrival and couldn't have been happier with the session and the beautiful pictures and moments Roy captured for us! :-) Roy was very friendly and was not only a pro with his photography but he also came across as such a pro on the handling and care of newborns! As brand new parents, Roy immediately made us very comfortable and he knew exactly what was needed in order to make our daughter as happy as can be during the shoot. In April of 2009- My husband and I booked our first session, a maternity session, with Roy- we were so impressed with both him personally and his work, we quickly booked a newborn session to follow just weeks later. And now- nearly 3 1/2 yrs later, we have had a couple more wonderful blessings- and have now had 3.... yes 3... newborn sessions, as well as many other sessions, for a grand total of 9 (with family). I have worked with several professional children's photographers in the past, and I can confidently say that Roy is heads and shoulders above the rest! We chose a location shoot. Roy has a great eye for using the surroundings to both make my children feel comfortable in their environment and for creating great backdrops for our photos. Roy made my little ones feel themselves in front of the camera. He was also able to capture their different moods and personalities - all within the time we spent with Roy during our shoot. Roy wasn't only amazing with my kids, he was amazing with our dog! One of the most precious photos that came from our time with Roy was one where he caught my little boy hugging our little dog. First off I would like to say that Roy is an amazing photographer. (Although is review is a little late, he need to be complimented.) I recently had my daughter on Februaury 28, and didn't even think of taking newborn pictures of my daughter until the very very last minute (literary). I was searching and searching and found Roy's website. His pictures were gorgeous.... So I had to have him. I was able to reach out to him that Friday or Saturday in March and it was just a couple of day before my daughter would reach her 10th day of being let out into the world. Man, Roy gave me an appt for the following Monday morning in Brooklyn, I was delighted. He was very patient, professional, and you could easily tell he loved his work and has been in photography for quite awhile. He is awesome and I would totally book him again and again in the future. I contacted Photography by Roy a few months prior to a NYC trip to plan a couples photo shoot. Roy was exceptionally responsive and understood exactly the type of photographs I was seeking. The day prior to the shoot I informed Roy that I intended to get engaged during our session. He quickly sent me a picture from his portfolio showing me a perfect and quiet location. On the actual day of the shoot, Roy immediately made us feel comfortable and relaxed. That was so important to me since I'm not someone who typically enjoys being photographed. My daughter really wanted her Senior High School pictures taken in New York City - we looked at every website we could find that offered senior picture packages. I hired him to take newborn photos of my baby. Roy is not just a professional photographer. He absolutely knows how to take care of babies to take best photos. My baby didn't make fuss or complains at all throughout the photo session which took us about 3hours. He is patient and cooperative so you would feel comfortable taking time to nurse your baby. He can do photo sessions at your house so you don't need to travel with your newborn baby which I think it is a huge plus! Because we didn't want to drag just a few days old newborn around onto a car or train. When he came to our apartment he looked through things in our rooms to try to make our photos as personal and special as possible. He is open for any requests for photos if you have, but if you don't have, it's ok because he has tons of ideas and takes beautiful photos. He is creative. If you are looking for an accommodating, amazing newborn photographer, look no further than Roy. He photographed both of my boys in my apartment when they were newborns and designed both of our birth announcements. Roy was so "chill" that it calmed me when I got stressed about the baby crying, or peeing (with no diaper on), or having to stop to breastfeed. He is patient and caring and obviously enjoys what he does. You never feel like you are "on the clock" with him and he spends as much time as he needs to get all of the perfect shots. The pictures are ready quickly and are easy to view and order via Roy's online website. Both birth announcements were BEAUTIFUL and unique. I loved Roy so much for the newborn shoots, that I also hired him to take pictures of my boys when they turned 1. He also recently took pictures of my boys with their cousins and grandmother. Over the past few years Roy has become more than just a photographer to our family, he is a friend. He is an amazing person and really "gets it" when photographing our children and dog. We have done at least 4 sessions with Roy and have loved every one and can't get enough of his pictures. He has a great eye and captures our girls personalities every time. He is VERY patient when working with us and doesn't make us feel like we are annoying when our kids are totally melting down. My girls absolutely adore Roy and feel more than comfortable around him. We came from a small town in TN to NYC for my son's senior pictures/vacation. We were unfamiliar with the city of course and Roy was so professional and kind, assisting us with the transportation issues and being flexible with us with the anticipated rain. He was very personable. We felt as if we had a tour guide, photographer and friend all on one! We loved his creativity and also asking our opinions as to capture what we wanted as well. We have hired Roy on three separate occasions over the past three years. Once for maternity photos, and twice for newborn photos. He is our first choice to capture these fleeting, important moments. When our second child came a few days late, he worked to reschedule other shoots in order to fit us in on our preferred date. Roy has an amazing ability to calm and position newborn babies in exactly the right spot. His creative eye and suitcase full of props ensure a variety of settings and poses. He is meticulous, stopping to move the angle of a feather, or position a wayward finger. His attention to detail shows in the finished photos, which can take your breath away. We use the photos in announcement cards, hang them on our wall, and share them in digital media. I find his packages and products to be of excellent value, and worth every penny.
